Work Text:

It's been a stressful week for both of them, juggling the daily chaos of life and work and all of the responsibilities in between. But even amidst the flurry of business that's constantly nipping at their heels, Lan Xichen and Jiang Cheng will unfailingly make time for each other.

It's date night, and they're going to the art museum to see the interactive Van Gogh exhibit.

Lan Xichen had suggested it when he saw an advert for it at the bus shelter last week, and Jiang Cheng had agreed readily enough. Lan Xichen knew his husband wasn't particularly interested in these sorts of things, but he loved him and was definitely interested in Lan Xichen himself, and so it warmed him up inside whenever Jiang Cheng would indulge his whims from time to time.

Truth be told, however, Lan Xichen might have had an ulterior motive for bringing them here to the museum tonight. He enjoyed the works of Van Gogh as much as any other art appreciator, but his real intent was to see his husband under the soft coloured lights of the exhibit and watch the play of shadows and tones along his skin. He had the inkling of a suspicion that the vision would be a masterpiece in and of itself, and after all, what was art but how it was interpreted through one's own heart?

So they’re at the exhibit, and Lan Xichen is taking constant peeks at his husband from the corner of his eye as they walk through, their hands interlocked.

It's as he's admiring a brighter flicker of purplish glow on that shiny, inky hair, that Jiang Cheng glances at him and squeezes his fingers a little tighter. He quirks one of his eyebrows up, and Lan Xichen smiles at his expression.

"Why do I get the feeling you're about to lay some cheesy pick-up line on me?" Jiang Cheng asks, smirking. "Something about how you think I'm the real masterpiece here?"

Lan Xichen chuckles, his husband really knew him too well sometimes, it was incredible. He leans in close and places a chaste kiss on Jiang Cheng's temple before responding, "But it's true, my heart. You know I never lie."

Jiang Cheng snorts, and Lan Xichen can see him struggling to keep off the grin that's pulling at his mouth. A spark of mischief alights within him, and he moves his lips a little lower to whisper conspiratorially into Jiang Cheng's ear, "Or would you rather a different line? Maybe something about how I'd love to pick you up and nail you against a wall? Lay you out for me to admire and appreciate?"

Jiang Cheng whips his ear away and gapes at him, completely scandalized as a flush starts to creep up over his collar. He rips his hold out of Lan Xichen's hand and stomps away, muttering about how they were in public and Lan Xichen really should be old enough to not be using such shameless pick-up lines.

Lan Xichen laughs and appreciates the image of his husband's backside for a moment, before Jiang Cheng is turning back around and looking at him, extending his hand out again for him to take.

"Come on," Jiang Cheng huffs, "they have a historical sword collection here that I want to check out too after this."

They're in an art museum, surrounded by the colours and flickering lights of a master reinterpreted, but Lan Xichen can't take his eyes off of Jiang Cheng.
