Chapter Text
Prologue
Soulmates were said to be destined for each other.
Jungkook had always been excited for his 20th birthday to come. Easily lulled by the countless soulmates' success stories he heard while growing up, he had been convinced that finding his soulmate — or at least knowing their name — would mark the beginning of his own epic romance.
His biggest fear had been to end up Markless; deprived from the hope to meet his kindred soul, and promised to endless mocking and pity from the ever so judging public—
Exactly like his best friend Taehyung was being belittled ever since he had been labelled Markless, despite Jungkook’s best attempts at defending him.
Now, imagine Jungkook’s devastation when his wrist remained painfully untouched on his 20th birthday.
After much disappointment and a bitter heartache, Jungkook dejectedly resigned himself to live Markless.
When he turned 21, Jungkook eventually started dating Haneul, who had just graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business management at that time. He was Taehyung’s age and was Markless as well.
Haneul was kind enough. He took Jungkook on sweet dates, introduced him to his wealthy friends — or rather, his carefully crafted network — and always showered him with expensive gifts. Jungkook really had nothing to complain about. Markless people who actually found romantic partners were extremely rare and fortunate, he was told.
Except two years later, on his 23rd birthday, it turned out that Jungkook wasn’t really Markless after all.
Rather, he was Cursed — a phenomenon even rarer than being Markless — for he had to bear the burden of knowing the identity of the two persons who could each either treasure him or break him, without being able to tell for sure which one would turn out to be which.
Unbeknownst to him, his 23rd birthday had actually marked the beginning of a journey of self-discovery and acceptance—
And even perhaps a blooming romance somewhere along the way.
