Work Text:
It’s cold in the mornings.
Mona doesn’t usually wake up early due to how late she often stays up, but when she does, it’s always cold, much like this one.
Mona despises the cold despite how she had to adapt to it due to her passion. When she sits at the edge of Starsnatch Cliff to read the stars, it bothers her. The nightly wind that would rush up through her jacket and give her the chills or the rain that would start falling seemingly out of nowhere (even though she had seen rain in the future forecast but it had completely slipped her mind).
Mona fucking hates the cold.
She shivers, pulling the blankets up to cover her neck, and then lays for a moment, hoping to fall back asleep. But she doesn’t. It’s agonizing, she thinks, all she wanted was some cozy resting before she got up for the day in the hours and she couldn’t even get that.
Damn.
She huffs, she was not about to climb out of bed to turn the heat on and become even colder, she’d suffer before that.
Mona turns over on her side to face her husband who was sound asleep next to her. Aether always looked so peaceful when he was resting, light snoring and a soft mumble here and there. The blanket they shared was tucked up to his neck and his head was buried in his pillow, hair slightly messy.
Mona ponders waking him up for a moment to ask if he could turn up the heat for her, it’s not he’d mind, she occasionally made requests like these and Aether had always complied but…
‘Damn, he looks so peaceful, I really don’t wanna wake him… This fucking sucks!’ Mona complains internally.
After a couple of moments of going back and forth in her brain, complaining and debating what to do, Mona sighs.
Fine, the cold wins. She’d get up and turn the heat on, she was over it by now.
Before she gets up, however, she carefully moves to scoot over and gently place her head into Aether’s chest and pouts, something she’d become accustomed to doing whenever she sulked about something (and honestly, Aether had found it pretty cute).
And then, as if it were an epiphany, it hits Mona.
Body heat. She could become warm if she cuddled with Aether.
At this remembrance, Mona immediately moves to place her head in the crook of Aether’s neck and press her body against his, swinging her leg over both of his. She uses her free arm to pull up the blanket and then slips it back underneath. Within moments, she immediately begins feeling warmer and she sighs in content.
Finally, she was cozy enough to fall back asleep after what seemed like hours of suffering.

“Hey, dear?”
“Hmm? Is there something wrong, Aether?”
“No, not really but… Why were you clinging to me when I woke up? Not that I’m complaining but it’s just very unusual of you.”
“Oh… I was cold.”
“Cold….?”
“Mhm.”
