   Summary

   Alina Starkov knows what it is to lose. She has lost her home. She has lost people she loves. And when she discovers the strange power kept dormant inside of her since childhood, her life is ripped from her again. Now she is a Grisha. Now she is something unique to be used by whoever can get their hands on her first. Shu, Fjerdans, Kerch traders-she learns to see them all as enemies as she fights to survive.
   Then she meets the Darkling, the powerful and handsome Grisha in charge of the second army. A man she swears she has seen before in passing hallucinations. He has spent years searching for her since the first rumors of a girl who shone like a star rose from Keramzin, and now he has found her.
   Alina is not naïve. She knows this man wants something from her like all of these others. But still, she cannot help but be drawn to him.
