The phone dings rapidly a few more times before Nikolai sighs deeply again and tosses it to the side in front of Kaz.
Kaz thumps his head on Nikolai’s collarbone lightly. “Who was that?”
“Do you typically do anything for Thanksgiving?” is the answer he gets to that one.
Kaz turns around so he can raise an eyebrow at Nikolai that he can actually see. “What do you think?” he asks rhetorically.
Kaz doesn’t celebrate Thanksgiving. Who would he celebrate with in the first place? All of his blood family is long dead, and his chosen family all have their own families to celebrate with.
He also thinks it’s a silly concept on the whole, and is probably really insensitive to America’s Indigenous people, if the history of the holiday he’d read once was even fractionally accurate.Or,

The person — a man not much younger than himself, Nikolai notices — gets up, swearing viciously in a low, raspy voice. Then the man starts talking.
