Mother Nature was (read: is) a bitch.
The one weekend you, Satoru and Suguru had the dorm to yourselves, your body decided to remind you of the infuriating fact that you, in fact, did not give it a baby.
To be fair, last night had been one you would never forget. Cuddling together on the couch while watching movies had filled your heart, the constant bliss of being together with the two men you loved had left you feeling so giddy you couldn't stop smiling. As a major bonus, it had been raining outside - a gentle, calming rain as the zephyrs graced the inside of the living room with the earthy aroma of wet mud.
It was simply ethereal. Forgetting about curses, responsibility and death and reveling in the small joys of life, you were so happy you could die.
You did not mean that literally.
But here you were, now on the verge of tears as you looked upon the stain on the couch with horror while blood trickles down your bare thighs, the feeling making you feel nauseous. Even though the soft pattering of raindrops had always been a source of comfort for you, you doubt anything could soothe your panic right now. Thankfully, the two troublemakers (and demon spawns) had fallen asleep on the couches opposite to yours. And they were still asleep. Phew.
The reality was becoming painfully clear by now. You had used up all your pads and tampons during your last period, and as the pinnacle of idiocy that you were - you forgot to restock. 'Curse you, past me.'
Now, you weren't embarrassed, per se. You knew they were aware of your monthly cycles; it was a given since deep down their absolute teasing tendencies, they cared about you (more than you could ever fathom). And in case of an emergency like this where you had no immediate access to any other female to help you out, you had prepared yourself to ask for their help. After all, you were dating. Asking your boyfriends to help you out on your period was supposed to be normal. It simply wasn't supposed to be an issue at all.
Then why? Why were you feeling this way? You knew it was natural. Nearly half the world goes through this. You were painfully aware that you were making a fuss out of it, thinking too much over a problem that wasn't even a problem. Yet you couldn't shake away the cloud of uncertainty that hovered above you.
After attempting to calm your breathing and failing miserably at it, you silently tiptoed towards the washroom to grab a sponge, soap and water in a small bucket. You took off your bloody underwear, quickly washed it and left it to dry. You'd get a fresh one from your room after cleaning up the couch.
Paying no heed to the uncomfortable sensation of dried blood on your thighs, you made your way back towards the living room, your legs threatening to give out any second while a painful cramp creeps up your stomach. Glancing at the two devils to make sure they were still in their sweet dreams; you give out a sigh of relief that turns into a wince as soon as you feel another cramp steadily climbing its way up to add to your misery.
You quickly shut your mouth, not wanting to wake Satoru and Suguru up yet. In other circumstances, watching them peacefully sleep would've made you happy like nothing else, but that was the farthest thing on your mind right now. Still, it was true that the image of their limbs sprawled all over the couch and soft snores echoing throughout the room did put a gentle, albeit tired smile on your face.
After second checking that they were sleeping for sure, you crouched down in front of the couch and gently started cleaning the stain, making sure that the sponge doesn't give out any ungodly squelching sounds that may wake up the two idiots behind you. You were forever grateful for the rain outside, as its sounds did well to tone out the splashing sounds of you trying to quietly squeeze out dirty water from the sponge. You inwardly cringed at the damp sensation of fresh, warm blood dribbling down your already messy thighs.
While scrubbing away the stain, your mind entered a hazy state as it filled with negative thoughts. You felt like a burden, a hindrance, a liability. You three had planned to go to the amusement park today but assessing the intensity of your cramps - you knew you won't be able to go.
It was simply bad luck. You hated this. This weekend was supposed to be a break for all of you to relax in each other's company. You couldn't handle this. Your eyes filled with tears as your scrubbing gradually got more and more aggressive, fueled by the utter helplessness and frustration you were feeling.
Peeking through his white eyelashes, Satoru's sapphire eyes groggily adjusted to the dim light coming through the window. The first thing he notices is that the rain hasn't yet stopped. The second thing he notices is Suguru on the couch beside his own, also waking up from his slumber.
And then they both notice one more thing: you sitting down on the floor, rubbing a damp spot on the couch with your hands clenched so tightly your knuckles began to whiten from the pressure.
Not realizing that you had woken up the two behind you, you simply continued to scrub and scrub, your eyes downcast and teeth biting your lower lip as a weak attempt to prevent the tears from flowing. You don't notice the gentle footsteps behind you, nor the presence of someone crouching down to your level to glance at what exactly you were doing.
Then suddenly, a voice you know all too well calls out. "What are you doing?" Suguru speaks while slowing wrapping his arms around you from behind, his husky voice and scent overtaking your senses.
You blink, your eyes coming in contact with deep-blue ones as Satoru smiles at you from above. "What's the frown for, sweetie? Missed us while we were sleeping? You should've said so, we could've slept together on my bed last night." He lightheartedly teases, not yet aware of the silent storm that continues to thrash inside your mind.
Their touch is all that takes to get you out of your daze. The vines stop constricting, the dam breaks - and you let it all out.
You let go of the sobs you had been holding in, your body convulsing from the tremors of unreleased tension that had been bottled up for way too long now. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry...", you weakly apologize in between your cries.
Satoru and Suguru both immediately feel their body tense, visibly confused at what had you so distressed first thing in the morning. You were so full of joy last night - never once did the smile gracing your lips even faltered to fade away. Yet here you were, on the floor, crying and apologizing for something they couldn't put a finger on.
Suguru tightens his arms around you as he tenderly asks, "What's wrong, darling...? Are you okay?"
Satoru bends down too, cradling your face in his hands as if it's the most delicate, precious thing in the world for him. "Hey, just relax okay? Nothing's going to harm you, we're right here." He continues to soothingly trace his calloused fingers on your face, wiping away your tears.
You really, really want to stop crying and tell them what's wrong. You're sure they'll help you out. After all, they've given you no reason to doubt their love. Yet, you can't control the waves of distress that engulf you.
When you don't respond and refuse to make eye contact with them, their concern skyrockets. They both look around and try to guess the source of your plight. From the corner of his eye, Suguru notices blood trickling down your thighs. At first, he fears you're injured, but then he looks at the traces of a stain on the couch, slightly wet from water and your hand harshly squeezed shut around a sponge. Glancing down at the small bucket of water on the floor, he puts two and two together and somewhat relaxes at the fact that nothing serious or dangerous has befallen you. He rubs soothing circles on your back and gives Satoru a reassuring glance to calm his worries while gesturing with his eyes to your thighs and the couch. After a few seconds, he realizes too and gives out a sigh of relief. He picks up the bucket and goes to the washroom to grab a towel.
"It's nothing to apologize about, you know. You should've told us, honey. Now let's get you up, come on." Suguru gently presses your body flush against his, protectively and firmly lifting you up from the floor. You finally let go of the sponge and slowly stop sobbing, bringing your clean hand up to grasp at his shirt, bringing him closer. He brings you to your room and places you on the bed. He chuckles lightly when you don't let him detach himself from your body, wrapping your arm around his torso.
"Yep, what he said. If anything, I'm hurt you would think we'd be disgusted or offended by this. We've already seen you covered in way more blood while fighting curses, so no need to feel embarrassed or anything, pumpkin." Satoru comes in with a damp towel, strolls towards your wardrobe and grabs a loose shirt and a fresh piece of underwear for you to change into. He notices that you don't have any pads or tampons.
He walks back towards you and with feather-light touch, he cleans up your thighs and the hand with which you were cleaning while Suguru uses a tissue to tidy up your tear-stained face.
Satoru opens up your drawer and takes some cash from your wallet. "I'll teleport to a store and get you your essentials - I won't take long, so be a good girl and wait for me, 'kay?" He practically sings and pats your head, attempting to lift up your spirits.
He looks at Suguru, as if silently communicating 'take care of her while I'm gone', to which Suguru just snorts and gestures him to leave already. Satoru teleports after childishly sticking out his tongue at Suguru, and the sight makes you lightly chuckle. Noticing this, he grins like a Cheshire cat before vanishing into thin air.
After a few seconds of silence, you timidly speak up, "I'm sorry. I should've relied on you - and I wanted to. But I don't know what came upon me and before I knew it, I was panicking. I'm so sor-"
Before you can finish your sentence, Suguru places his finger on your lips. "No more apologies. We told you there's nothing to apologize about. It's okay, we understand. You probably just got overwhelmed since Satoru and I never explicitly told you that we were okay with this stuff."
"But-", you try to protest but are silenced with Suguru's lips claiming yours, the taste of his lips washing away any remaining worries that you had left.
"Having fun without me? You're really hurting my feelings, you know." Satoru dramatically exclaims, pushing his hand to his heart to show his apparent 'hurt'.
His voice is so close to your ear that you break away from Suguru's lips to squeal as you are caught by surprise. He's now laying on your bed, claiming more than half the bed with his long legs with a grocery bag in his left hand which he playfully balances on the top of your head.
He now grins seductively at your cute display and whispers, "Want help putting on your clothes and underwear, cupcake- Ouch! Hey, what's the big idea?!" He looks defensively at Suguru, who slammed his head at his words.
"You're insatiable," Suguru scowls at him before yanking Satoru out of the room and looking at you with a comforting smile, "You can change here, sweetie. Don't worry, I'll make sure he doesn't try anything weird."
"I wasn't gonna try anything in the first place!" Satoru whines as you find yourself laughing again at their gimmicks. Contrary to his previous behavior, he now genuinely asks as he leans on the door, "Will you be fine?"
Your heart warms at his display of love as you speak as cheerily as you can, "Yeah yeah, now get out already!" You walk towards the door and close it, listening to the carefree laughs at the other side.
You quickly get dressed, take medicine for your cramps and go out into the living room. You look around for them as you feel yourself being thrown off a shoulder.
"What are you doing now...?" you tiredly speak out with a hint of amusement in your voice.
"It's still pretty early in the morning, and since you seem like you need some rest, we're gonna sleep in my bed. It's the only one in the dorm spacious enough to fill all three of us." Satoru says before you're teleported into his room and placed on his bed.
You loll sideways to look into his eyes as Suguru's arms wrap around you from behind. Satoru pulls up the blanket to cover it on the three of you. The soft pattering of rain on the window was gradually lulling you to sleep. As soon as you close your eyes, something cold is pressed against your lips, you lazily open your mouth to feel whatever it is, and your eyes shot open when the taste of something sweet envelops your taste buds.
Chocolate.
It instantly clams your nerves and before you can fall asleep, you ask them about what was worrying you.
"What about the amusement park outing we planned for today?"
You look over at both of them, as their eyes blink a few rims before Suguru speaks up, "Oh, so that's what you were worried about," He caresses your cheek with his hand, kisses your forehead and continues speaking, "It doesn't matter, really. What we essentially planned for this weekend was to be together, so as long as I've got you two, I don't really care. What about you Satoru?"
"What you said," He drowsily confirms, yawning out and bringing you closer to him. "Understood, pumpkin? What we need is you and each other, so just relax and go to sleep already." He interlaces his fingers with yours as Suguru places your head under his.
Basking in the warmth pouring out from them, you mutter out an 'I love you' before falling asleep in their arms - safe from everything that could ever harm you.
For the nth time today, you smile at the way they pamper and comfort you.
And for the first time in a while, you learn that sometimes, it's best to be taken care of.
