Chapter Text

“Alright I’ll be waiting for you after your club meetings ok guys? Love you have a good day.”
“Alright. Thanks Amelia, love you too!”

Amity Blight walked down the hallway of Hexside towards her first period class.

“Amity Blight to the principal’s office, Amity Blight to the principal’s office. Thank you.”

‘Oh no what did the twins do now?’

Amity nervously turned around to the front office and headed to Principal Bumps office. She arrived at the door and knocked.

“Come in!”

She entered expecting Emira and Edric but instead saw a Dominican woman and a girl whom seemed to be her daughter. The girl looked up from her phone and gave a small wave and smiled shyly. Amity waved back and smiled at her too.

“Ah thank you for joining us Miss Blight. This is Camila Noceda and her daughter Luz.”
“It’s very nice to meet you Miss Blight.”
“You too Ms Noceda, you too Luz. And please call me Amity.”
“So I was talking with Ms Noceda about Luz’s enrollment and she has some things she would like you to know.”
“Thank you Mr Bump. Me and Luz just moved here after...”

Camila stopped talking and just stared. Amity was worried about this.

“Ms Noceda?”
“Huh? Oh my goodness I am so sorry for that.”
“It’s alright. If you don’t want to talk about it that’s fine.”
“No what I’m going to ask you to do for me requires you to know why.”

There was a sudden knock on the door.

“Come in?”
“Sorry to bother you Principal Bump, but– oh I didn’t realize you had a meeting. With my child.”
“Hey dad.”
“Hi baby. Sorry, where are my manners? Alador Blight. I’m Amitys dad, and sheriff of Bonesborough.”
“Nice to meet you, I’m Camila Noceda and this is my daughter Luz. I just was just to about to explain something to your daughter here. If that’s alright?”
“As long as I can drop in.”
“That um, that might help, please. As I said before sorry for staring off like that. Anyway me and Luz moved here after my husband was removed from my last homes police force, after he threatened Luz and then killed my eldest two. Afterwards he was sent to prison.”

Camila and Luz started crying.

“I’m sorry to hear that. If you like I can lea–“
“Oh no! I’m sorry I didn’t mean to make you feel guilty, it’s just a few of my friends moved here when I was younger and I called asking for help. They all decided that they would have me and Luz move here and be closer to a more comfortable place. Closer to friends I can trust.”
“Well looks like your friends made the right call. So do you need my daughter to help keep Luz happy or something?”
“Yes, after what happened her vocal cords got damaged and she can no longer talk and was permanently mute. It’s been very hard for her to communicate even with a pencil and some paper. Before we left, the doctors at the hospital I worked at said that this will increase her chances of–“

Camila started crying again.

“Committing suicide.”

Camila nodded and Amity went over to Luz. Luz tensed up and Amity brought out her phone.

“Hi I’m Amity, though you already knew that. I would like to be your friend, would you like to mine?”

Luz grabbed her note pad and pencil and started writing a note. She showed Amity:

“You really mean it? You want to be my friend?”

Amity nodded. Luz smiled and looked at her mom.

“Well I got to get back to the house and finish unpacking. Thank you Principal Bump.”
“Of course Ms Noceda.”
“Alador, it was very nice to meet you and your daughter.”
“You too Ms Noceda. And if you need help with anything let me know and I’ll come over with my kids.”
“That would be wonderful, thank you. Mija, im going now, you be good and let me know when you’re out of school ok?”
“Ms Noceda, if it’s alright with you maybe she could see one of the school clubs. I can ask my sister if she can bring home afterwards.”
“Luz.”

Luz thought for a moment and nodded.

“Well ok then, make sure you help them with directions the best you can ok?”

Luz nodded again and hugged her mom.

“Bye, love you. Thank you so much Amity.”
“No problem.”
“So Miss Blight I’ve already sent an email to your teachers and you have a free day basically. Why don’t you show Luz around and help her out?”
“Sure thing Principal Bump. Bye dad love you.”
“Love you too sweetie.”

Amity and Luz left and headed to the library so she could help Luz in a more quiet area.

“Ok so now that’s out of the way, might I ask why you’re here?”
“I have been told that Emira and Edric haven’t shown up in almost two weeks. And today is the first time they actually showed up.”
“That’s odd, I have records of them being–“

Bump then put his hands to his head.

“They hacked the-“
“They hacked the school computers.”

Amelia was helping out in the library, and went back to the desk. She looked up and saw Amity walk in.

“Well if it isn’t the trouble maker and her trouble making friend.”

Luz looked like she was about to cry and Amelia started to try and calm her down.

“Whoa, hey hey. I’m sorry I was just messing with my little sister. I’m Amelia.”

Luz smiled and pulled out her notepad. She handed Amelia a note:

“I’m Luz. Nice to meet you.”
“Let me guess. She’s mute.”
“Yeah, but she’s super fragile right now.”
“I could kinda tell. I’m guessing she got attacked or something?”
“Mhm.”
“Well I won’t pry and don’t worry I like Amity, super nice. Amber is too. So I’m guessing this is why Bump needed you in his office huh? Does she need a ride home?”
“Yeah She’s going to a club with me after school.”
“SGA, or Brighter Futures?”
“Brighter Futures.”
“Well I am going to join you. Viney asked for help with setting up the float tomorrow and I need a copy of the design.”
“Awesome! Hey where have Emira and Edric been?”
“Best not to think about it. Anyway I’ll let you get back to your girlfriend.”

Amity laughed and Luz smiled.

‘Maybe this will help me. Amity and her sister already made me feel a ton better.

Luz got her books out and was looking for her laptop. Amity looked at some of her artwork and drawing pads, and saw an Azura the good witch book. Luz turned back to her and saw this.

“You like Azura too?”

Luz nodded. Amity smiled. Her and Luz read until lunch and then left to go eat.

‘Maybe things won’t be so bad. And mamí is right. This can help me’

Luz got up and went with Amity ready to go get some lunch and possibly make a few more friends.

“So Luz, how long have you been here for?”

Luz pulled out her notepad and wrote a note and showed Amelia:

“Not too long, maybe three days at the most.”
“So pretty recent huh doll face?”

This earned Amelia a blush from Luz and she put he hands to her face. Amelia smiled and pulled Luz into a hug, causing her to blush even more. Amity giggled and kept walking to the cafeteria. When they arrived Amelia went to save them some spots and Amity helped Luz out with the lunch lines.

“So we have multiple different sections, including a food truck that comes every Friday. We also have have an iPad that allows you to put in any allergies you have in to the computer so that the lunch staff can make you a special dish of the same meal. I believe today is grilled chicken salad in the creation line.”

Luz nodded and they walked to get their food. There Luz entered her information and her allergies. Amity saw that this she was lactose intolerant and it upset her. They met up with Amelia and saw two girls. One with pink hair wearing a soccer jersey and the other with grey hair with a pinkish tint in it.

“Boscha. Skara.”
“Amity.”

Luz looked at them and was scared.

“Pfft. Hahaha! How was class so far?”

Luz relaxed a little bit and took a seat next to Amity and Amelia.

“Good. If you don’t count Willow almost messing up a lab project in biology.”
“Seriously? She got suspended for a week last time.”
“Yeah well she thinks it’s the easiest thing in the world. Anyway who’s your friend?”
“Oh sorry. Boscha, Skara this is Luz Noceda. Luz this is Boscha Vackor and Skara Fergus.”
“Hi!”
“Nice to meet you.”

Luz smiled and waved.

“She shy or something?”
“Actually she is mute.”
“Aw that must be so hard. Did something bad happen to her?”
“Yes but it is not my place to say. She’s coming to club after school though.”
“Well maybe we can work on the floats together. Coach Terra is giving extra credit for chemistry students who help out. Ya know she would really like Luz. I mean she is the best special needs teacher here.”
“Well yes, but I don’t think anyone wants a repeat of Amber. As soon as we learned she was autistic, Coach Terra was all over her. Took us all day just to convince her that she was fine.”

Luz got out her notepad and wrote the group a note:

“So I have autism as well. Do you really think it’s a good idea for me to meet her?”

Amity looked shocked, but then smiled.

“Of course Luz. It’s just, well, Coach Terra can be overprotective, especially with special needs kids and her soccer team. But she’ll really like you, I promise.”
“Speaking of her...”
“Hey hey hey! How’s it going girls? Ooh who’s this one?”
“Hey Coach. We’re doing fine, and this is Luz.”
“Oh yeah, Bump and I just got done talking about your schedule. Got the same periods as Amity here, and because I only have one home economics class I’ll be helping you with your assignments. And yes I am aware of your condition.”

Luz smiled softly and looked at her schedule. First period was home economics, then geometry, after that English, followed by P.E., history, and finally Biology. Amity looked at the schedule and was pleased with it. Amelia looked as well.

“Hey I’m actually becoming the TA for gym 4th period so you’ll see me in there. But don’t think I’m gonna go easy on ya!”

Luz seemed to laugh at this and then finished eating. Then her and Amity said bye and headed back to the library.

“Of all the stupid shit you pulled, you guys have to go and hack the school computers.”
“Dad it’s not that big of a deal.”
“No, it is! You guys, we raised you to be honest and tend to your studies, not goof off and do who knows what. I mean think about it. What was your plan if this blew up right in your face? Huh, what?”

Emira and Edric sat in silence in the back of their dads cruiser. Alador knew that they were good kids but they didn’t have much of a future if they kept doing stuff like this.

“Listen, you guys have a three week suspension from school. Your mom and I decided you’ll be getting a part time job as punishment.”
“What?”
“But dad! That isn’t fair!”
“Well unless you want to go to jail Edric.”
“Part time job is fine.”
“Alright get out your mom is waiting for you, I gotta head over to the hospital.”

Emira and Edric got out and walked to the manor. Their mother owned McFerrin Industries, the biggest tech industry in the nation. Despite this however Alador became a police officer, as it was the wish of his dying father, Solomon Blight. Odalia was not happy, but knew better to argue with an officer of the law, especially one being her husband. Alador arrived at the hospital and saw the Mayor’s car outside.

‘Uh oh. Hope it’s not too serious.’

He walked in and saw Camila talking with someone.

“Hey Camila. Mayor Belos. I thought that was your car. Hey Eda, Lily.”
“Hey Al!”
“Whoa, whoa, whoa! Mayor Belos? Alex, you have a lot of explaining to do.”
“I, uh, well, ehm, hey Kiki how ar–“

Camila put her arm out.

“Ok fine. After all you went through I didn’t want you to think that you were going to be a burden if you knew my dark secret.”
“Dark secret? Really? Alex, I just wish you told me sooner. What about you two, Eda, Lily?”

Eda spoke up first.

“I took over the family Antique business. And it’s going pretty well. You should com on by sometime and check it out”
“I am currently the head of Alex’s security.”
“Well at least Edas job is relatively normal. But seriously no more secrets.”
“You have my word. Well I got to head out and finish looking over some paperwork. Take care Cammy.”
“Uh actually Mayor Belos I was going to have Ms Noceda here over for dinner tomorrow night and was wondering if you would like to join us?”
“Dinner sounds wonderful! Thank you Officer Blight.”
“Not a problem. And please call me Alador.”
“Of course Alador. I might run a little late but should be able to make it.”
“Great! How does 5:30 sound?”
“Sounds good.”
“Alright see y'all then.”

Belos and the Clawthorne sisters left, leaving Camila and Alador.

“I thought you were unpacking.”
“Eda, Lily and Alex showed up and finished it for me then we came to the hospital so I could get to work.”
“Ah...”
“You didn’t just come to invite me for dinner, did you?”
“No, I got a call saying that a victim of a robbery last night was brought here, Franklin Park.”
“Um, I think I have his file. Let’s see... Ah! Here we are. Room 104 in the left wing.”
“Alright thanks.”
“Uh what should I bring to dinner?”
“Just you and your daughter.”

Amity and Luz finished the day in the library and headed to the class room where “Brighter Futures” was being held. A girl with a small fish hook for an earring stood up front.

“Alright everyone thanks for joining us. If you’re new here, hi I’m Viney Griffin, Club President. So the Brighter Futures club is helping with a parade for the city tomorrow, and we were given the theme “renewable energy”. There are three people who are going to be in charge of it. Me, Amelia Blight, and Jacques Porter. If you need any help let one of us know. So for the rest of the meeting time we are going to discuss which energy we want to do.”

Viney walks towards Luz, Amity, Amelia, and Jacques.

“Ay Amelia, Jacques, Baby Blight, new cute girl.”

Luz covered her face and blushed. Amelia snickered at this.

“Viney this is Luz, she’s the new student I was telling you about.”
“Nice to meet you Luz.”

Viney noticed that Luz took her notepad out and started writing.

“Hi, it's nice to meet you too.”
“Is she ok?”
“Oh yeah, she’s just well, mute.”
“Well mute or not, she is sweet. Hey Boscha, Skara! Why don’t you two join Amity and Luz for discussion about an energy to use.”
“Ok. So we need to choose a renewable energy source.”

Luz wrote a note:

“It has to be reliable.”
“Yeah, but also safe.”
“Don’t forget it needs to be renewed easily.”

The girls sat there thinking. Meanwhile Jacques, Amelia and Viney watched.

“Who are we watching? We have to discipline them?”
“Hey Winona, how’s your dad holding up?”
“He’s a lot roughed up, but he’s doing better. Pops is going to visit him right now. And I’m pretty sure Officer Blight is there with him getting a description for the perp.”
“Well at least Dads there, he’s known him since elementary school.”
“Yeah, we are pretty lucky. But seriously why are we watching your sister, her friends, and new cutie over there?”
“Watching them bond. Hey have any of you guys seen Gus? He ran off once we got here.”
“Would the following students please report to my office. Jacques Porter, Augustus Porter, Winona Park, Boscha Vackor, and Skara Fergus. Thank you.”

Winona and Jacques gave an exhausted look.

“I am praying that this isn’t involving Gus or your sister.”
“Me and you both.”

Luz looked at Boscha and Skara.

“It’s ok Luz. There was an incident in chemistry this morning so Principal Bump might just want to know what happened.”
“Me and Luz will keep thinking of different ideas. I’ll text you what we come up with.”
“Actually let me and Skara get her Number too, that way we can keep in contact easier.”

They exchanged numbers and then Boscha and Skara left with Jacques and Winona.

“So renewable energy. Safe and reliable.”
“Solar?”
“Well yes it’s cleaner, but it’s not completely reliable. Wind?”
“Two problems: 1) it’s way too noisy. 2) it endangers wildlife.”
“If you don’t mind me asking, what did the last place you lived use to power it?”
“Nuclear, why? Isn’t that the most dangerous energy source?”
“Not completely.”
“Well sounds like you two have an agreed energy source.”

One of the other students came over and scoffed.

“Nuclear? Really? Nuclear energy is never going to be as successful as solar, I mean hello, nuclear Bombs ringing any bells?”
“And what’s your idea Mattholomule?”
“I–“

Mattholomule realized he wasn’t in a group, so he didn’t have a energy source to present.

“Uh huh, that’s what I thought.”
“Come on Viney. It’s nuclear energy, we could have a meltdown right now and all be dead. Doesn’t your dad work at the power plant?”
“Yes. And yes he told me the dangers of nuclear energy and how to handle them. Isn’t your dad the safety inspector of sector 7G?

Mattholomule growled at this and walked back to his seat. Luz and Amity giggled at this.

“Alright everyone we are going to take a vote. We will have three energy sources to vote on: Solar, Wind and Nuclear. Whichever one gets the most votes will be what we’re using for the float. Alright who wants Solar?”

A few kids rose their hands.

“Alright 6 for solar. Okay how about wind?”

Mattholomule and one other student rose their hands.

“Ok, 2 for wind. And finally Nuclear?”

The remaining students rose their hands, including Luz and Amity.

“Ok 15 for Nuclear energy. This will be the energy source that’s going on the float. So for the next 4 to 5 meetings and on weekends we will be working on the float. All help is appreciated. Ok that’s it see y’all in school and at the upcoming meetings.”

Luz was grabbing her bag when Viney came up.

“Hey Luz, I just wanted to let you know that it was nice meeting you and I enjoyed having you here.”

“It was nice meeting you too Viney. I’ll see if my mom will let me come and help with the float. I might even join the club!”
“That sounds awesome, thanks!”

Luz, Amity and Amelia headed to the car where Amber was waiting. She saw Luz and went up to the group.

“This your new friend Ami?”
“Yeah, this is Luz. Luz this is my one of my older sisters, the other and my brother are twins. And I’m guessing dad took them.”
“Yep.”
“Terrific.”

Luz started to scratch her arm. Amity and Amelia took notice and grabbed both her arms and started to calm her down.

“Hey, shh shh shh! It’s alright. Let’s get you home, k?”

Luz nodded, Amber got a text.

“Hey guys, mom just said dad’s coming home to get some clothes and toiletries for us. She’s going to have a little talk with Emira and Edric, said that it’s best if we’re not there.”
“We can discuss where each of us will stay later. Right now let’s get Luz home. I’ll text dad and tell home where we’re headed.”

Luz felt her phone go off.

“Hola míja, I’m headed home. Let me know when you are.”
“Me, Amity and her sisters are about to leave the school.”
“Ok Bebe. Make sure you help the best you can. Love you.”
“Ok. Love you too Mamí.”

Luz began writing a note and showed it to the others.

“My Mom is on her way home too. So she should be there when we arrive.”
“Alright let’s go. Luz you got shotgun.”

To say Odalia Blight was Furious was probably an understatement. If there was any limit to a humans anger, Odalia probably reached it.

“I can not believe the stupidity of your actions. I mean hacki–“

The door creaked, and it was Adam.

“Sorry to bother you Madam Odalia, but Sir Alador is about to leave, and he requested for me to talk to you regarding the twins punishment.”
“Very well, what is it?”
“He said that Edalyn Clawthornes antique business has been getting rather quite busy lately and she has been looking for extra help.”
“Sounds like a fitting punishment for you two. Thank you Adam, and thank Alador for me as well.”
“Of course Madam.”

Adam left and closed the door behind him.

“Now as I was saying. Hacking the school computers? Seriously? We raised you better than that. Honestly I don’t know what you were thinking.”

Emira and Edric just stayed quiet. They knew there was no reason in arguing with their mother.

“Go to your rooms and stay there until dinner. We will discuss this with your father when he gets home.”

Emira and Edric headed to their rooms. Odalia just sighed and sat down.

‘Your running a multibillion dollar company and this is what your paid back in. Having your mental state go on the brink of insanity and disrespectful children.’

Odalia looked out the window and pondered on the future of her children.

Luz and the others arrived at her house. There she saw her mom’s car and a police cruiser. Upon seeing it she started to freak out.

“Whoa hey, hey. It’s just my dad. We asked him to meet us here. It’s ok.”

Amelia and her sisters all comforted Luz and then got out to go inside.

“Oh míja, you’re home! How was school?”
“Good.”
“So make anymore friends?”
“Sí.”
“Yes ma’am. She made a couple with mine and my older sisters Amelia and Amber. Then she met Viney, the Brighter Futures club president.”
“That’s wonderful!”
“Hey Camila, where do you want the couch exactly? Oh hey girls. Your stuff is in the trunk.”
“K, thanks dad.”
“Um, right there is fine for now. So uh not to be rude, but why’d you show up?”
“Well my twins did something extremely stupid to say, and my wife usually needs at least until tomorrow to calm down. So she asked me to get some stuff for the girls and have them stay with a friend.”
“Oh, well why not stay here?”
“Are you sure?”
“Of course. Luz would probably love it.”

Luz nodded and looked to the three Blight girls. They all smiled and Amelia gave a thumbs up.

“Well then it’s settled. I will see all of you tomorrow night. Girls, be good and behave for Ms Noceda.”
“Yes sir.”

Alador left and the girls all went to get there stuff from his car. Luz hugged her mom and smiled. Camila hugged her daughter back. ‘This, will be good for both of us. She needs the friends, and I need the fresh start.’

Hey guys so I am on hiatus until I am done with school, which should be early may. I just got to focus on my schoolwork and finish it up. Going for a degree in web development. Anyway that’s it.

Update, since season two is going on I am going to hold off on this for a while so I can learn more about the new characters. But it would mean a lot to me if you guys checked out my other work while I plan this one more. Thanks.
