Work Text:

Bobby stares at the kitchen supplies in front of him. Reggie is alway making treats for him and the other boys, so now it’s his turn to make something sweet for him. He found a simple vanilla cake recipe in his mom’s recipe box and he is determined to make it the best damn cake Reggie has ever tasted.

Two hours later, the frosting is a liquid, he’s out of sugar, and there is more flour in his hair than there in the batter. Bobby has no idea how things went so wrong, but he does know that the cake is nowhere done, and Reggie is going to be here any second. Bobby buries his face in his hands, realizing too late that they are covered in flour.

When he hears the door open, Bobby contemplates changing his name and hopping on a bus out of town. Before he can decide on a name that sounds good with Wilson, Reggie is walking into the kitchen.

“What happened in here? It looks like a bakery murder scene,” Reggie laughs.

Bobby groans and presses his hands to eyes, no longer caring about the flour getting all over his face.

Reggie inspects the bowl of batter. “Were you trying to make,” he sniffs it, “a cake?”

Bobby nods, his hands still plastered to his face.

Reggie chuckles and moves towards Bobby, lowering his boyfriends hands. “For me?”

Bobby’s face softens. “Yeah. I kinda failed this whole cooking thing though. Sorry.” He hangs his head in embarrassment.

Reggie steps closer, gently raising Bobby’s head to meet his eyes. He brushes some flour off his cheek. “It’s ok. Now we can finish it together.” Reggie leans forward and kisses Bobby’s nose.

Bobby blinks. Then he pulls Reggie back in, pressing their lips together and running a hand through Reggie’s hair. Reggie wraps his arms around Bobby’s waist and pulls him even closer. The kiss tastes of flour and vanilla.

When they pull away, Reggie frowns. “You got flour in my hair.”

Bobby reaches into the bowl on the counter and puts a dollop of frosting on Reggie’s nose.

Reggie gasps and retaliates by flinging the batter covered spatula at Bobby.

By the time Luke and Alex show up, the kitchen is more decorated than the cake.

“Um, guys?” Alex looks around the empty mess of a kitchen. “Anyone home?”

“No, go away,” Reggie’s voice comes from the other side of the kitchen island.

Luke and Alex cautiously peak over the edge. They were not expecting to see Reggie and Bobby lying on top of each other on the floor, covered in frosting and batter and flour. Luke smirks.

“Are we interrupting something?”

“...No.”

“Bobby you’re a horrible liar, and also there’s a hickey on your neck.”

Bobby’s hand shoots up to his neck, and Reggie’s face turns as red as his flannel.

“We, uh… we just-“

“Yeah there’s no saving this,” Alex interjects. “Come on Luke, let’s give them some privacy.” He turns to Luke, who is scooping up frosting with his finger. Alex slaps his hand away before he can lick it.

Luke pouts at him, but Alex just rolls his eyes, grabs him by the hoodie, and drags him out of the kitchen.

Bobby turns his head back to Reggie, and they burst into laughter. He brushes some frosting out of Reggie’s hair and leans down to kiss him.

Before he can, though, Luke comes running back into the kitchen. He grabs the bowl of frosting and gives them a thumbs up and a wink. Alex rushes in behind him, so he leaps over the counter and runs out the other way.

Alex groans and turns around, mumbling death threats at Luke as he walks out.

Reggie giggles. “We have ridiculous friends.”

“Says the guy who started a food fight in my kitchen.”

“Me?” Reggie gasps. “You started it! You’re the one who got flour in my hair! AND put frosting on my nose! I was simply defending myself.”

Bobby shakes his head and smiles. “You’re a goober.”

Reggie grins. “I know!” He scoops up some batter off the floor and shoves it in Bobby’s face.
