Work Header

little moments like this

Summary:

Steve grabs the blanket and covers himself. "Stop it! My husband will kill you!"

It takes Tony only a second to realize what Steve thinks is going on and he laughs. "Steve, it's me. Tony." He tries to take the blanket off, but Steve doesn't let him.

"Don't-- take advantage of me! My husband will kill you!"

Or, Steve is loyal to no end. Even after a night of drinking Asgardian mead.

I wrote this also for my warm and fuzzy feelings on my stony bingo card. Just pure fluff.

Work Text:

"He's gone," Tony notes, surveying around the living room. The last time he had seen his husband, he was laying on the floor, staring up at the ceiling and singing while Peter babbled along in his playpen.

Now, the room is empty except for Peter, still in his playpen, and Clint who is passed out upside down on the couch.

They decided to throw a party tonight just because they've been doing well with training and there hasn't been any life-threatening missions lately.

Half of the Avengers are the designated sober ones: Tony, Natasha, Bruce, while the other half are as drunk as a teenager at a high school party: Steve, Thor, and Clint.

Thor broke out some of the Asgardian mead from his stash to give Steve since normal alcohol didn't do it. They didn't think it was even going to work until Steve started getting extra clingy to everyone, not just his husband and son.

Then Clint tried out drinking him, and it ended with Clint passed out on the couch and Steve singing Disney songs to Peter.

That's exactly where Tony left them to go check in on Bruce and Thor, who are in the bathroom. Thor's chilling out in the jacuzzi tub with no water and a box of Cheerios while Bruce sits by and makes sure he doesn't get into trouble.

Tony turns around to the kitchen where Nat is eating an apple as she keeps her eyes on both Clint and Peter. "Where'd my husband go?"

She points towards the hallway. "Peter asked him for his stuffed elephant."

"Papa get Ellie!" Peter says loudly, clapping his hands. It's way past his bedtime, but Tony doesn't blame him for not being able to sleep with the team being so rowdy.

"Let me go make sure he didn't pass out along the way," Tony says with a small smile. He doesn't mind having to babysit his drunk husband. Steve had never gotten drunk before, at least after the serum, and Tony's glad he finally gets a chance to kick back and have fun. He's also a cute, cuddly drunk. So Tony really doesn't mind.

He walks down the hall, expecting to see a heap of a 6'4, 250lb super soldier laying down on the ground, but it's clear.

He finds his husband once he walks into their son's bedroom and Tony can't help the laugh he lets out. Steve is in Peter's toddler bed, designed to be Lightning McQueen, and he barely fits. His legs are half on the mattress, one arm is on the floor, and he's got Peter's elephant squeezed against his chest.

Tony walks over and shakes his shoulder gently. "Hey, sweetheart...why don't you come into bed?"

Steve grunts and turns his head to hide it in the pillow.

"You wanna stay in Peter's bed? Don't you think ours is bigger and comfier?"

Steve grunts again, turning so he's just in a different position. But he must think he disappears from Tony's view.

"I still see you, babe," Tony says with a laugh. "But if you wanna sleep here, be my guest. At least let's get you more comfortable."

Tony pulls off his socks, and then goes to the waistband of his khaki pants he's wearing. His button down shirt had come untucked hours ago and thrown over the lamp shade for some reason. Tony starts to unbutton his pants and unzip his fly, but Steve swats his hands away. Tony frowns and just tugs some more.

Steve picks his head up and glares. "Stop it." He then falls right back to the pillow.

Tony rolls his eyes as he tugs on his pants until they're just below his ass. Tony smiles at the Iron Man boxers he's wearing.

Steve grabs the blanket and covers himself. "Stop it! My husband will kill you!"

It takes Tony only a second to realize what Steve thinks is going on and he laughs. "Steve, it's me. Tony." He tries to take the blanket off, but Steve doesn't let him.

"Don't-- take advantage of me," Steve mutters, trying to cover himself, but Tony can still see his ass. Tony pats it and Steve squirms. "My husband will kill you!"

Tony can't help but laugh at him. "Love, it's me."

"I love Tony-- his name is Tony!" Steve groans loudly. "Where is he? Where is my husband?"

"Here, my love."

"Where's my kid-- we have a son!" Steve turns on his back and opens his eyes, though they're unfocused as he stares up at the ceiling.

Tony leans over so his face is right above Steve’s. "I'm right here, sweetheart. Peter's in the living room, waiting for his Papa to bring him his stuffie."

Steve's eyes stare at him for a long moment before he finally widens them. "Tony! Someone was-- tryin' to take my clothes. I said no."

Tony cups his cheek softly. "I know, baby. It's alright. You're okay."

Steve grunts and grabs Tony, tugging him against his chest like he had done to Peter's stuffed elephant. "M'yours."

"Yes, you are." Tony says, cuddling against his chest. "And I am yours."

"Mmm."

Tony looks over and sees that Steve's eyes are closed again. "Hey, Nat! Come to Peter's room and bring the squirt!"

Steve's face pinches at his loud volume. He sounds adorably annoyed when he says, "Tony, shush. M'sleepin."

Natasha is in the doorway a few moments later with Peter on her hip. When he sees his dads laying in his car bed, he starts giggling. "Dada! Papa! So silly!"

Steve's eyes open when Peter's giggles fill the room. His eyes dance around but never settle. "Baby bear…"

"Papa!" Peter shouts excitedly as Natasha lowers him to the ground. He runs as fast as his little legs can take him to his bed and grabs onto Steve to try and lift himself up.

Tony helps him up and Peter gets right in Steve's face.

Steve smiles warmly. "Hi, bud…"

"Hello, buddy!" Peter grins, kissing him on his nose. "I miss you!"

"I miss you too."

Natasha chuckles from the doorway. "I'll leave you three be. I've gotta make sure Clint isn't going to choke on his own vomit."

"Thanks, Nat," Tony says with a smile as she walks away.

Once she's gone, Peter lays down and curls up on Steve's chest. His eyes flutter shut as he starts to suck his thumb with one hand and twirl his curls with the other.

Tony watches his son peacefully for a few moments before whispering, "We should probably move to our bed, love. I don't think Lightning can hold us all."

"Vroomy strong!" Peter says, pouting. "Don't go."

Steve holds them both closer, if that's even possible. "Don't go. My boys."

Tony settles back down in the crook of Steve's arm. "We're not going anywhere, love. Don't worry."

"Mine forever," Steve says before kissing the top of Tony's head and then Peter's. "Stay."

"Forever and ever," Tony says, wishing that was exactly how long he could pause this moment for.
