Chapter Text
"Hawks, this is Touya, he will be your new sparring partner from now on" Hawks looked up seeing a boy with bright red hair and piercing blue eyes, he had bandages running around his arms, most likely from training and a few other scars around his body.
They didn't get time to even greet each other before they were forced to spar. It seemed the other boy had a harder time during their fight, he avoided using his quirk even though it would probably give him an advantage during the fight, it seemed he preferred battling in close combat and he instead opted to fight from far away with his feathers.
--------------------
They were both lying next to one another on the floor, a comfortable silence over them "What would you do if i died?" That would be an odd question if it came from none other than his best friend, a boy who seemingly wished death upon himself for some reason.
"I'd miss you... like a lot, you're probably the only friend I’ve ever had so it's kinda expected that I’d get attached" he chuckled, trying not to think about what he'd do if that happened, he knew it would bring him a lot of pain but he was used to it, he could take it, he couldn't be weak like that, he was training to be a hero, wasn't he?
"I'd miss you too birdie, good night" he said before turning to the side to sleep. "Good night" he said as he closed his eyes, falling into a seemingly dreamless sleep.
--------------------
It had been a few years since they first became friends, many things had changed. "All done!" he said, finishing to wrap up the newest bandages over Touya's arms and smiling at the now white haired boy. It was one of the few times they had together without having to train.
The Commission were ruthless but he knew that it would make them great heroes, at least that's what he told himself. He didn't really like the commission, they made him change his name (He really liked Keigo, especially when it was Touya who said it), they made him suppress most of his bird-like instincts, claiming it was inhuman, if he didn't do what they wanted, they'd hurt him, pulling his feathers until his wings were bare and the floor was coated with their bright red.
They also didn't let him go to school, he wanted to go to U.A. or another hero school, wanted to make friends, even if he knew that at that point, he'd probably be horrible at doing that, if he was being honest at least, he'd probably put on the fake persona the Commission made him use, he was supposed to give the impression that he was flirty, slightly careless and didn't care to speak his mind, when in reality, he was a socially anxious boy who didn't want to speak up, afraid that it would make them unhappy with him and decide he needed to be "educated", which was just another name for torture.
It didn't mean that he had the worst of it, Touya would not only actively defy their handlers when he could, but would also protect him when possible, calling their attention to some purposeful mess up so that they'd punish him instead, commonly making him overuse his quirk which burned his body, and made him have to patch them up because as much as he said he hated doing that, it was able to take him somewhere else, far, far away, where there was no Commission and they were living together as heroes as he helped the other with the minor injuries he sustained from a weak villain.
--------------------
He was screwed. God had some messed up sense of humour as he found himself trying to clean up the mess he made. There on the floor, were black rose petals, he knew the cause. He had fallen in love with his best friend, like an idiot. He couldn't help it, everything about the other was perfect, at least to him. Touya had brought out a part of him he didn't even know existed, a chaotic part of him that only the other got to see, like the time they stole a car, which turned out to be a horrible idea since the white haired boy had gotten motion sick, but it was still a memory he looked at fondly.
He cleaned up his mess, being as fast as he possibly could, making sure not to make a sound, soon Touya would come back from training and he'd go to his "special training", a name that barely matched what it entailed, it was a lie, just like all they did. They hid the truth from the public; no one knew what Endeavor had done, Touya told him. They couldn't let anyone find out that the number 2 hero would ever do something as bad as that, which they turned a blind eye to, seeming to find it normal since they treated people like that as well.
--------------------
He couldn't just hide the fact that he had hanahaki from his friend, he'd confess and if he was rejected he'd tell the Commission so that they could give him the surgery, they would probably scold him for being that stupid but it wasn't really his choice, he could probably get away with saying that he didn't know who he had it for since the commission probably wouldn't be too happy with him falling for a boy.
They had finished training and just got back to their rooms, there wasn't a lot there, just plain walls, 2 beds on opposite sides and 2 desks filled with books that neither wanted to read but had to. "Hey Tou? How would you react if I said liked you?" He was really anxious about the others answer but he needed it as soon as possible. "Like romantically?" he asked, receiving a nod from him. "I mean i wouldn't mind, if you were to theoretically like me, i might theoretically like you back" he said, blushing. That was a thing he really liked about the other, he blushed easily.
"Well, if that's the case... i kinda fell for you, and have hanahaki now, so yeah" he looked to the side, not wanting to see the other's reaction, even if the other theoretically liked him back, having hanahaki would imply you fell in love which could be a bit odd, most people didn't exactly fall in love at the age of 14. He expected many things from Touya, what he didn't expect was that he would kiss him. It was barely a kiss, given how quick it was but it still made his heart flutter "I love you, Keigo" he didn't know he needed to hear that, but that was enough for tears to start falling down. "I love you too, Touya" he said, hugging the other.
--------------------
They had started dating, it was hard for them to hide that from the commission, but they managed, nothing really changed that much with them acting just like how they did before most of the time.
It was raining outside and Keigo had just woken up from yet another nightmare, it seemed he had lots of those lately, some of them revolving around his parents, them screaming and fighting or them hurting him in some way, others were about the Commission, in them they would torture him and forced him to kill Touya, even as he screamed, cried and begged not to do that, they just laughed at his pitiful face.
He woke up, sweaty and crying "Are you okay birdie?" it seemed he made enough noise to wake up the other boy in the room, he shook his head. "Do you want to sleep with me?" the other asked, already knowing that he had another nightmare.
He got up and waddled to the other side of the room and got on his bed, hugging him. Keigo was strongly gripping his shirt, almost ripping it apart, afraid that if he let go, he would disappear "I'm not going anywhere Keigo, I won't leave you, not if I can help it" those words soothed him and he let go slightly of his shirt, quickly falling asleep to the feeling of Touya's arms around him.
--------------------
Keigo was forced to watch as Touya burned, he was enveloped in blue fire and he couldn't stop himself from crying as he saw it happening, his handler's strong grip on his shoulder making it so he couldn't turn away from the sight.
He was in Touya's bed, crying as he thought about what had happened, it was February and they were going to go out and cause mischief during Valentine’s Day like they used to, except this time it would be a date. He tossed and turned, trying to get at least some sleep if that was possible, every time he did it didn't last long, all his dreams would turn into nightmares where his boyfriend burned alive with his own blue fire.
