Work Text:

Irritation lingered in your expression as you watched your boyfriend entertain his fangirls. This wasn’t the first time it happened, it started three months after you two had become an official couple. He had gotten rather comfortable behaving this way in front of you, and it had only gotten worse as time progressed.

It started out small, him waving at his fangirls while you two were together. Then he began striking up small conversations with them as you two walked together during your dates. Now, it’s gotten to the point where he’d put your dates on hold for the sake of entertaining his fangirls.

You weren’t the jealous type, you always put a lot of trust in your partner, but this was getting out of hand. It hurt your pride whenever he would neglect you for these other girls when he never even bothers asking for their names.

Your patience was hanging by a thread, you were bound to snap at any moment. Instead of allowing your pride to sink lower, you approached him, placing a hand on his shoulder.

He turned to you, a small smile on his face as he tilted his head curiously. “Yeah?”

Fuck it, why did he have to be so cute. You cursed him internally, keeping your expression blank. “We should get going.”

“Ah.” He turned back to his fangirls and scratched the back of his head, a sheepish smile on his face. “Sorry ladies, but I’ve gotta go now.”

Your face contorted with irritation when they began whining for him to stay. He was your boyfriend, so why were they acting like clingy girlfriends watching their boyfriend leave to hang out with his friends.

Eventually, they let him go and you two were able to continue your supposed date. At least, that’s what you thought. Upon checking the time you realized it was already five in the afternoon, and you had things planned out that you needed to do.

A sigh left your lips as you stopped walking, turning to him as he mimicked your action. “I have to go.”

He frowned, “What? But our date was just about to start.”

You huffed, irritated. “No, Tooru.” He visibly flinched at the venom laced in your tone when you spat his name. “Our date began two hours ago, but instead you spent those two hours chatting away with your fangirls.”

“I’m sorry.” He pouted, “I just- I’d feel bad if I sent them away.” He tried to reason with you, but you weren’t buying it. You were pissed off.

Lowering your head, you spoke with a dangerously low tone. “At the expense of your lover's pride?” You asked, looking back up at him.

His eyes widened, surprise evident in his expression, he didn’t expect you to say that. “What?”

“Forget it.” You sighed, turning away from him. “I have plans, I’ll see you another time.”

He said nothing as you walked away, and your sense of self-worth sunk even lower. He didn’t even bother asking you to stay so you could talk it out. You wondered if he even cared about you at all.

You scolded yourself for thinking those things, not wanting to let yourself feel any worse as you walked home. But you were thankful somewhat, you weren’t sure if you’d be able to continue on your date with Oikawa without slapping him across the face.

He was treating you like absolute shit and you were getting fed up with him. As you walked home you recalled the distant memories at the beginning of your relationship. You realized that most of the time, you were always the one putting in the effort in your relationship. Pain struck your heart as those memories progressed closer to the present, and how he had only been treating you worse and worse.

When you arrived home, you had come to the conclusion that the next time you meet up with Oikawa, you would end your relationship for good.

_____________

You turned around as soon as you heard him call out your name. “Hey.” He smiled at you charmingly. “Why did you wanna meet up all of a sudden?” He asked.

Curse that godly smile. You looked at him, doing your best to keep your expression neutral. “I’ve been doing a lot of thinking lately.” You began, eyes searching his for any hint that he might have an idea of where this conversation was heading.

“That’s not good for you.” He frowned, pressing the space between your eyebrows as he playfully nudged your head back.

“Hey!” You glared at him, touching your fingers to your forehead. “This is serious.”

He raised his arms up in mock defeat. “Alright, what do you wanna talk about?” He asked before lowering his arms back down to his sides.

“I like you-”

He cut you off, “We’ve established that. We are in a relationship after all.”

Not for long. You thought to yourself as you shot him a glare. “Let me finish first.” When he showed no signs of further interruption, you continued. “I really like you, Tooru. But it just doesn’t feel the same from you.”

He gave you a confused look, as if he didn’t know why you’d think that. “But I do like you!” He insisted.

“Tooru,” You frowned at him. “We’ve been together for nine months now, but as time goes by you’ve just been neglecting me more and more- I can’t keep being your backup plan.”

“Who told you that?” His brows furrowed.

A sigh left your lips, he really was completely oblivious to anything he’s done to you. “During our dates… you always put them on hold whenever you run into your fangirls, and if not that you always come at least half an hour late to our dates because of volleyball practice.”

“But volleyball is my life.” He reasoned. “You understood that the moment you entered a relationship with me.”

“I did.” You admitted, crossing your arms over your shoulders in an attempt to console yourself from finally letting out all the things you’ve wanted to say. “But that combined with your negligence towards your duty as my boyfriend just so you could provide fanservice is something I can’t take anymore.”

He remained silent, his eyes calculating as he absorbed all this newfound information that you’ve been hiding from him all this time.

“I’ve lost my pride and any sense of self-worth I once had.” Your jaw clenched and you looked down, feeling a knot begin to form in your throat. “If I take any more hits, I don’t think I’d be able to pick myself up anymore.”

“Baby…” He stopped mid-sentence as you raised a hand, preventing him from filling your head with any more false promises.

“Let’s break up.” His eyes widened as you looked up at him, your expression was blank but that didn’t stop him from noticing the tears pooling in your eyes.

He looked away, his jaw clenched. “Okay.” He nodded, avoiding your gaze, refusing to meet your eyes.

You, on the other hand, were left in shock and disbelief. Though you weren’t as surprised as you expected, after all, this was just like him. To pull a stunt like this and show you that he didn’t care about your relationship in the slightest.

Resisting the urge to slap him across the face, you simply nodded in return. “I guess that’s it then.” You turned your back on him. “Thanks for bearing with me.” With that, you walked away from him, not bothering to look back.

When you got home to your shared apartment, however, that was a completely different story. You sat on the couch pitifully, wrapped up in fuzzy blankets and a tub of strawberry ice cream in your lap, bawling your eyes out.

Nikki, your roommate, sat next to you keeping you company as you cried over your ex-boyfriend. “What did you even see in that guy anyway? He looks like a total jackass.” She rolled her eyes as you blew your nose.

“I don’t know!” You whined, wiping your tears with the ends of the sleeves of your hoodie. “I don’t even know why I asked him out in the first place!”

“You have terrible taste in men.” Nikki sighed, grabbing a new roll of tissue paper and handing it to you.

The thought of Oikawa Tooru, whom she referred to as ‘The Great Jackass’, hurting you this way ticked her off. She didn’t like the idea of someone as sweet as you having to deal with the bullshit of a guy like that for nine whole months, only to be discarded and cast aside as if you were nothing.

A sudden idea popped into her mind as a mischievous grin formed on her face. “Say,” She began as you looked up at her with puffy red eyes. “What do you think about revenge?” She asked.

You gave her a weird look. “I don’t really like-”

“Just imagine,” She cut you off. “Don’t you wanna see the look on his face when he sees you completely happy with someone else?” She asked.

She frowned when you began shaking your head. “That isn’t right.”

“Curse you and your good conscience.” She sighed, ruffling your hair. “Whatever, if you change your mind, let me know, okay?”

Although you didn’t believe you’d be changing your mind, you simply agreed with her. “Okay.”

_____________

You changed your mind.

As two months passed after breaking up with Oikawa, you felt like absolute shit. Your sense of self-worth that had deteriorated over the course of your relationship had simply pummeled to the ground during the months that followed after your breakup.

“I concede, I can’t take it.” You barged into Nikki’s room where she was seated on her bed, book in hand. “I feel like absolute shit, I need closure. I need revenge.” You rambled on, taking a seat next to her.

She closed her book, a satisfied and smug expression on her face. “Alright, but you need to follow everything I say and do everything I tell you to do.” She said, pointing a finger at you warningly.

“I don’t care what it is, I just wanna get rid of this feeling.” You told her, determination evident in your voice.

A mischievous grin formed on her face as she grabbed your wrist. “First, let me introduce you to my good friends in the volleyball club.”

And that’s how you found yourself standing in front of the gym on your school campus, you could see the volleyball club members packing up their things, dressed in their purple club jackets. That’s right, you were a student at Shiratorizawa.

“Wakatoshi!” Nikki called the captain, you had almost forgotten the two of them were in a relationship together.

You were familiar with the famous captain, you weren’t close but you were well-acquainted thanks to Nikki and you were one of the few people Ushijima considered as a friend.

A small smile formed on his face as soon as he spotted her. When she reached him, she immediately wrapped her arms around him, placing a quick peck on his cheek as he returned the hug. “Is there anything you need?” He asked, smiling down at her.

Despite being happy for them, you couldn’t help but envy their relationship. You thought bitterly about how Ushijima asked her if there was anything she needed rather than asking her why she was there, something Oikawa had always asked you whenever you surprised him with your presence.

Oikawa’s normal responses made you feel like your presence was unwanted and hearing how sweet Ushijima was towards Nikki, you couldn’t help but feel jealous. Of course, you didn’t harbor feelings for either of them but you envied how great their relationship dynamic was.

“I need to talk to Semi, is he here?” Nikki asked him.

He nodded, gesturing towards the direction behind him where a man of decent height and relatively large build, ash-blond hair, and sharp brown eyes was approaching the exit where they stood. A small scowl etched on his face, his aura exuded confidence.

“Ah, Semi!” Nikki waved at the boy, he looked up and gave her a slight nod. She pulled you next to her, throwing an arm over your shoulder. “We need your help.” She grinned as she introduced you to him.

The moment he looked down at your face, a look of interest flashed in his eyes. “My help? For what?” He asked, not taking his eyes off of you.

You did your best not to squirm under his gaze, feeling a bit intimidated. “This might take a while so why don’t we go grab something to eat, I’m sure you guys are tired from practice,” Nikki suggested, hooking her arm around Ushijima’s. “Right Toshi?” She looked up at him with a bright smile.

He nodded, smiling down at her. “Sure.”

The two of them turned, leaving you and Semi behind as they began heading out of the gym. “We should probably…” He nodded and the two of you followed behind the happy couple.

An awkward silence loomed over you both, at least that’s what you thought until you peeked at Semi from your peripheral vision, seeing that the boy seemed completely unbothered. “You’re not very good at sneaking glances.”

You jumped in surprise, earning a soft melodic chuckle from the boy. Your eyes went wide and you felt your cheeks begin to heat up slightly, automatically covering them with your hands. “Sorry.” You muttered sheepishly. “I’m not the sneakiest person.”

“I can tell.” He smiled down at you and you couldn’t help but stare in awe. He had a really charming smile, completely contradictory to the scowl he had worn earlier. You flinched when he bent down to your level, staring deep into your eyes. “Am I that pretty?” He asked, a small smile on his face.

“W-What?” You stared with wide eyes, like a deer caught in headlights. “What are you talking about?”

“You were staring at me.” He pointed out.

You shook your head, trying to deny it. “I wasn’t staring, it just looked like there was something stuck in your eye!” You cringed internally at your pathetic excuse, praying that he would somehow take the bait.

He hummed, “Mm, no there wasn’t anything stuck in my eyes,” A sneaky smile formed on his face as he looked back in front, where Nikki and Ushijima were in their own world. “They were stuck on you though.”

You tripped over your feet at the sudden appearance of his second statement, a small yelp leaving your lips as you closed your eyes, waiting to hit the ground when you felt a strong arm wrap around your waist just in time.

When you opened your eyes, you were met with his dark ones staring right at you. “Careful,” He muttered quietly, an entertained grin on his lips. “You almost fell for me there.”

Jesus, save me from this smooth man. Please.

You quickly straightened yourself up, clearing your throat awkwardly as you looked away from the boy. “T-Thanks.” You cursed at yourself for stuttering, how embarrassing.

Thankfully you managed to reach the small cafe that Nikki had led you to without any more inconvenient awkward interactions with Semi. The four of you took a seat in a booth close to the door, Nikki and Ushijima sat on one side of the table while you and Semi sat on the other. Why did she let me sit beside this guy? You whined internally, praying nothing bad would happen.

“Oh! I almost forgot.” Nikki spoke up, catching everyone else’s attention. “We’re here to discuss your revenge.” She said, pointing at you.

“You broke up with Oikawa?” Ushijima asked, looking at you curiously. You nodded in reply and a huff left his lips as he leaned back with his arms crossed, shaking his head. “Should’ve gone to Shiratorizawa.”

Nikki slapped his arm, causing him to jump slightly. “Stop that!” She scolded before turning her attention to you and Semi. “My master plan.” She gestured to the two of you, an evil grin on her face. “Semi my dear friend, you remember that favor you owe me?” She looked at the boy, batting her eyelashes.

He winced, nodding his head. “I remember.”

Semi did not have a good feeling about this.

“Alright then! Here’s what you’re going to do. I am now welcoming you both as the pawns of my master plan.” She clasped her hands together, resting her elbows on the table as a smirk rested on her lips. “Welcome to the Fake Boyfriend Project.”

Semi takes it back, Semi now has a good feeling about this.

_____________

It had been about a month since Nikki had introduced you to Semi and things were going smoothly. Of course, her ‘Fake Boyfriend Project’ was put on hold as both you and Semi agreed that it was absurd for the two of you to jump into a fake relationship when you had just met. So you both agreed to postpone the project until you felt comfortable around each other.

Strangely enough, you both practically clicked immediately. In the span of a single month, Semi had earned the title of being one of your best friends. You ended up spending a lot of time together, getting to know each other more.

About three days ago, the two of you had agreed to start the ‘Fake Boyfriend Project’ about a week from now. It was around five in the afternoon when you heard a knock on the door, you were about to get up from your spot on the couch to open the door when Nikki jumped out of nowhere and beat you to it.

You watched as she swung the door open only to be greeted by none other than Ushijima Wakatoshi. You were about to turn away and return to reading your book when you spotted Semi standing next to him.

“Oh, Semi-san!” You smiled, getting up from the couch as you approached the door. “Why don’t you guys come in!”

The two accepted your invitation, taking off their shoes before stepping inside your shared apartment.

“What’s with the surprise visit?” You asked, smiling up at Semi.

He returned your smile, wrapping an arm over your shoulder as he dragged you to your couch. “Ushijima-kun told me he was heading over here and asked me if I wanted to tag along.” You squealed as he suddenly tackled you onto the couch, his arms wrapped around your waist. “I’m tired.” He whined.

“Then get off me, you big oaf. I’m suffocating.” You grimaced, trying to pry him off you.

He simply shook his head, a cheeky smile on his face before it suddenly contorted to mock exhaustion. “Oh no, my legs, they’ve stopped working! Gravity’s increasing on me!” He suddenly dropped his whole weight on you, a small ‘oof’ leaving your lips. “I can’t get up.” He stated, his body sprawled over yours, effectively pinning you down.

Neither of you even noticed that Nikki and Ushijima had left the apartment to go on a date. “You weigh like a pig! Get off me!” You growled playfully, trying to push him off you.

“No, you feel comfortable and soft.”

You froze, turning your head slowly to face him. “Bitch!” You screeched, finally gaining the strength to roll him off of you as he landed on the floor with a thud. “Are you calling me fat?!”

“That’s literally what you just called me!” He retorted, waving his arms around exasperatedly as he sat up on the floor in front of the couch.

“No!” You denied. “I called you a big oaf and said you weighed like a pig!”

“That’s basically insinuating that I’m fat!”

“I-” You halted, realizing he had a point. “Okay, truce?” You reached your hand out to him.

A satisfied smile formed on his lips as he nodded, shaking your hand. “Truce.”

As soon as you let go of his hand, he reached beside you.  Right as you were about to turn and peek at what he was reaching for, a soft pillow was suddenly smacked across your face, causing you to topple over. “Semi!” You shrieked, laughing as he continued to assault you with your couch pillow.

You managed to grab another pillow from the couch and you swung back, attacking him with all your might. Before either of you knew it, it had turned into an all-out war. The two of you taking cover on either side of the living room, throwing pillows back and forth, running around the coffee table in an attempt to whack each other.

Soon you found yourself sprawled out on the living room floor next to Semi, pillows and cushions scattered all over the living room floor, it was an absolute mess.

Suddenly the door to your apartment swung open, the happy couple that was conversing loudly had gone silent at the sight of the living room. Both you and Semi sprung up, eyes wide like two toddlers caught stealing someone else’s candy.

Somehow, you both found yourselves seated on the couch, heads down in shame with Nikki and Ushijima standing before you two with their arms crossed, like parents scolding their children. “You two…” Nikki sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose as if suppressing a headache. “You both have a lot of explaining to do.”

_____________

Soon another month had passed by, you and Semi had officially begun your fake relationship. Going on regular ‘dates’ and posting pictures together on social media. Your secretly fake relationship garnered a lot of support from both your and Semi’s friends.

You were now getting ready to take a walk in the park with your fake boyfriend. Nikki helped you pick an outfit for said date. She chose a black top and high-waisted tan cargo pants complemented by a pair of white rubber shoes.

“Nikki…” You trailed off, wondering why she had chosen such thin clothing when the weather was quite cold as it was nearing the winter. “Shouldn’t I wear a jacket?” You asked, turning to her after seeing your reflection in the mirror.

She scoffed, waving a hand at you dismissively. “Such nonsense! You don’t need a jacket.” She insisted, putting a gold chain around your neck that rested over your collar bones.

“But the weather-”

She hushed you. “You don’t need a jacket, now Semi should be arriving soon to pick you up.”

As if on cue, the doorbell to your shared apartment rang through your ears. You got up right away, grabbing your phone and shoving it into your pocket before heading to the door. “See you later, Nikki!” You waved her goodbye.

As soon as you pulled the door open, you were surprised to be greeted with a bouquet of fresh red roses. “What’s all this?” You asked, excitement in your tone as you took the bouquet from his hands, a genuine smile plastered on your face.

“A small gift, I happened to take a detour and I saw a flower shop, I remember you told me you liked flowers.” He rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly. “You didn’t mention what flowers so I just decided to get these.”

You couldn’t wipe the stupid smile off your face as you gave him a quick hug before heading over to the kitchen to grab an empty vase, filling it with water, and setting the bouquet inside. You turned around to find him at the kitchen doorway, a small smile on his face as he watched you. “Thank you, Semi-chan.”

He offered you his hand and you took it. “Of course, you deserve to be given flowers.” He smiled, placing a kiss on your cheek.

You froze for a moment.

The course of your fake relationship was smooth, but as time progressed it began feeling a little too real. Nevertheless, you shook it off, smiling as you looked up at the boy. “Shall we?”

He nodded, gently lacing his fingers with yours as he led you out of the apartment and towards your destination. A calm and comforting silence surrounded you both as you enjoyed each other’s company, hands intertwined and swinging back and forth between the both of you.

It was times like these that you would forget that you and Semi weren’t in an official relationship, and for some reason, it didn’t feel right to you. The way he treats you and how he acts even without peering eyes is too real.

You wondered if… No. All of this is just part of my ploy for revenge, don’t get attached. There’s no way someone like Semi would ever… not for someone like me. You kept chanting similar phrases over and over again inside your head, but all rationality left the moment your eyes met his.

That genuine smile on his face whenever the two of you were together, the way he would constantly call you every day just to hear your voice. You didn’t want to admit it, but you had fallen for the ash-blond bumpkin. Everything about him was just so alluring to you, so lovable, how could you not fall for him? He never made you feel like shit and he never neglected you. He was chivalrous and polite when needed, and he was an absolute sweetheart to you.

“You seem like there’s something on your mind.” He suddenly spoke, snapping you out of your thoughts. “Are you okay?” He asked, genuine concern laced in his tone.

You gave him a reassuring smile, reaching your free hand up to caress his cheek, your thumb grazing his cheekbone softly. “I’m okay, don’t worry. I was just thinking about some things.” He seemed to doubt your words but decided not to press further, simply nodding his head as you two continued your walk to the park.

A sudden cold breeze blew past you both, and you shivered. Semi noticed almost immediately, releasing your hand and taking off his jacket before draping it over your shoulders. You thanked him as he wrapped an arm over your shoulder, pulling you closer to his side.

It was at this moment you realized why Nikki was so adamant about having you not wear a jacket. That sly fox, you smiled, shaking your head as you and Semi entered the park. The two of you took a seat underneath a cherry blossom tree.

You sat in peaceful silence, watching the children running around the park when suddenly Semi called your name, catching your attention. You looked to him with a curious smile on your face, wondering what he was going to say.

“I know that… this whole thing started as the ‘Fake Boyfriend Project’,” He began slowly as you could feel your heart pounding in your chest. “I know this was supposed to be a showy thing… but I think-” He cut himself off, shaking his head before looking at you directly in the eyes, and you could see the amount of sincerity in them.

Is he saying what I think he’s saying? You thought to yourself, feeling your heartbeat begin to speed up.

He took a deep, shaky breath before he spoke. “I’ve fallen for you, and I don’t wanna keep being in this ‘fake’ relationship… I want you for real.” He admitted, looking away as if he was afraid of your reaction.

You remained silent, unable to process his words. Of course, you were extremely happy, heck you were ecstatic, but the suddenness of his confession had caused your brain to lag like a 2009 Dell laptop. Unbeknownst to you, Semi took your silence as an indirect rejection.

With his face still looking away from you, he began to speak once more. “I’m sorry, you probably still have feelings for-”

You cut him off, grabbing his hand from the bench and lacing your fingers with his. “I’m gonna have to stop you there, Semi.” He turned to look at you and you felt a slight pang on your heart when seeing his dejected expression. “I don’t like Oikawa, in fact, none of this was because I still liked him.” You explained. “I asked Nikki for a revenge plan to show him that I was happy without him… I was only trying to regain my sense of self-worth that he had so badly destroyed.”

His eyes widened the slightest bit as hope crept back into his features. “So does this mean…” He trailed off, looking at you hesitantly.

You nodded, a bright smile on your face. “I've fallen for you too, Semi.”

Almost immediately after your confession, he had pulled you into his arms, burying his face in the crook of your neck. You returned the hug, wrapping your arms around his shoulders, letting a hand play with his soft hair.

“Honestly, this all felt way too real since the beginning.” You admitted, a soft chuckle escaped your lips. He simply hummed in reply, like he didn’t wanna let go of you yet, keeping his face tucked in the crook of your neck.

You let him hug you for as long as he wanted, enjoying the comfort and warmth of his embrace as you continued to play with his hair. It felt like you were cradling a child, but you didn’t mind, Semi was precious to you and if he wanted to stay like this forever then you would allow it.

After a while he finally pulled away, the look on his face leaving you speechless. His gaze was filled with adoration and pure love. Like you were the most precious thing in the world, pathetically enough you felt like crying seeing such an expression on his face.

“I love you.” He confessed, his hand reaching up to cup your cheek.

You leaned into his touch, a shaky breath leaving your mouth as you returned the confession, “I love you too.”

_____________

About two months had gone by since you and Semi had confessed to each other and started your relationship for real. It was the finals of the Interhigh preliminaries for volleyball and Shiratorizawa was going up against none other than Aoba Johsai.

Admittedly, you thought you would be nervous at the possibility of running into Oikawa during the tournament, but to your surprise, all you could think about was Semi. He was rather nervous about the tournament and you recalled his confession from the night before. He was also scared and insecure because Oikawa was going to be there.

Despite multiple reassurances, he still had his fears. But you didn’t get angry at him for it because you understood that even if you and Oikawa had broken up a long time ago and you told him you no longer harbored any feelings for the captain, there was still the past that existed. That alone was enough for insecurities to arise.

But you didn't give up and you still did your best to reassure him that you and Oikawa were completely done. You spent the night over at his apartment, comforting him in the best way you could to ease his nervousness for the tournament and his insecurities about your relationship and your past with Oikawa.

You had just arrived at the Sendai City Gymnasium with Nikki, both of your boyfriends had arrived earlier for warm-ups. The two of you headed off to the court where you spotted Shiratorizawa in their purple uniforms, countered by the Aoba Johsai team in their aqua-colored uniforms.

Ignoring the latter team, the two of you headed straight to Shiratorizawa. A smile immediately stretched across Semi’s face as soon as he saw you wearing his spare jersey. You waved at him, smiling brightly as you jogged over, he grabbed you by the waist, picking you up and spinning you around as you both laughed.

He finally let you down, both of you smiling brightly. Not realizing the rest of the team was stunned when seeing the usually stoic Semi Eita who normally had a scowl on his face, smile so brightly. But all that shock wore off the minute they realized you were the reason. Over the course of you two dating, you had gotten to know the entire team.

Despite it already being a few months, they still feel shocked whenever they see Semi smile like that, but it wears off more quickly when they realize it's you. The entire team greeted you and Nikki with high fives and friendly hugs, cooling down before the start of the match.

“Where’s Wakatoshi?” Nikki asked, she had noticed earlier but felt it would be impolite to ask without at least greeting the other boys first.

Shirabu gestured behind him towards the double doors to the court. “He went to the bathroom.”

Nikki looked at you hesitantly and you nodded, knowing she wanted you to go with her. You looked up at Semi, planting a quick kiss on his cheek before stepping away from him. “I’ll go with her, she sucks with directions and she might get lost.”

She glared at you playfully, rolling her eyes as you linked arms with her, waving the team goodbye and good luck, unsure if you’d make it back before the match starts.

“We should totally go on a double date after they win this match,” Nikki suggested, a happy smile on her face. She absolutely loved going on dates with the two of you, in fact, it only increased when you told her that you began dating Semi seriously.

You both stopped the second you turned the corner, seeing none other than Oikawa Tooru talking to Ushijima. Both of their arms were crossed and you could feel the tension radiating all the way from where you stood.

The two noticed your presence immediately, a smile making its way to Ushijima’s face as his girlfriend approached them, wrapping an arm around his waist as he wrapped an arm over her shoulders. You followed hesitantly, feeling awkward at the sight of your ex-boyfriend.

He called your name, causing you to look up at him. “What are you doing here?” He asked, surprise laced in his tone.

You suddenly felt an arm snake over your shoulder, it was Semi. “They're here to watch their boyfriend play.” He smirked at him

“You’re dating someone from Shiratorizawa?” He stared at you, shock written all over his face.

Nikki cut in, leaning into her boyfriend. “Not just that you jackass, they attend Shiratorizawa.”

Oikawa’s eyes widened as he looked back at you. “You attend Shiratorizawa?” He gawked at you, disbelief etched across his face.

“Damn baby, you had a horrible boyfriend.” Semi snickered, wrapping an arm around your shoulders. “He didn’t even know what school you attended.”

“You should’ve gone to Shiratorizawa.” Ushijima looked down at him, smirking.

An irritated huff left his lips as he glared at the four of you. “You’ll be eating your words when Aoba Johsai takes the trophy to nationals.”

“That’s the last thing that would happen.” Nikki rolled her eyes. “Eat shit, jackass.”

Oikawa maintained his glare for a moment before releasing a heavy sigh. A smirk suddenly crept up his face as he scanned the four of you. “Alright, we’ll see what happens. Don’t come crying back to me when you realize I’m the better choice.” He stared at you before breaking it off and walking away, presumably back to the rest of Aoba Johsai.

“What a jackass,” Nikki repeated for the umpteenth time, earning a laugh from the three of you.

“He really is, but I’m glad because that’s the reason I was able to meet Eita.” You smiled, looking up at your boyfriend. “I hate Oikawa, but I’m grateful that he brought me to you.”

Semi smiled, pressing a sweet kiss on your lips. Neither of you noticed Nikki dragging Ushijima away to give you both some privacy. At that moment, Semi could feel all his insecurities about your relationship wash away. “I love you.” He muttered, pressing another kiss on your forehead.

You closed your eyes, a small smile on your lips as you savored his warmth. “I love you too, now go kick his ass!” You cheered him on, earning a laugh from him.

“Anything for you.”

_____________

The match between Aoba Johsai and Shiratorizawa was tight and lengthy. The two teams fighting with all their might, doing their best to overthrow one another. It was the final push and you and Nikki watched with anxiety and excitement as Semi was put in the court to possibly make the final point as a pinch server.

Your fists were clenched tightly, knuckles turning white as you watched with nervous anticipation. Come on baby. You cheered him on internally as he threw the ball up, raising his hand and swinging it forward, making perfect contact with the ball.

Your anxiety spiked up when it hit the net, but right when you thought all hope was lost - that’s an overstatement - the ball rolled over the net as the rival team made an attempt to dive and catch the ball before it hit the ground, but they were too late.

A moment of silence hung over the gymnasium until the crowds roared to life, everyone cheering as Shiratorizawa was declared the winner. You and Nikki were screaming with joy, hugging each other as you two celebrated in the bleachers, while your boyfriends were huddled together with their team.

“Shiratorizawa!” The crowds chanted the school volleyball club’s cheer.

“That’s my baby!” You screamed, catching the team's attention as they all turned in your direction. You froze a bit, waving at them sheepishly as they all laughed. A smile stretched across Semi’s face seeing you cheer so loudly for him as he waved at you brightly.

Then you and Nikki headed off the bleachers and down to the court as the teams did their final greetings, Nikki ran straight into her boyfriend’s arms, practically pouncing on him. You approached Semi sneakily, waiting to see if he’d notice you.

The moment he did, he ran over to you, wrapping you up in a warm hug. “Ugh, you’re all sweaty and gross.” Your face contorted in disgust, feeling his damp jersey stick to you as he laughed, simply hugging you tighter.

“Thanks for coming to the game.” He smiled, breaking off the hug and staring deep into your eyes.

You beamed at him, “Of course I’d come to watch my favorite person in the world.” He smiled at your words before pulling you into another hug, earning a whine from you.

“Eita! Now I’m gonna have to take a bath right after this too.” You groaned before conceding, wrapping your arms back around the clingy boy.

“Congratulations.” You and Semi parted, turning to the source of the familiar voice. It was none other than Oikawa, standing before you two with his arms crossed. “Funny how you never went to any of my games.” His tone was now directed at you.

“That’s because you never invited me, Oikawa. You never even told me when you had any games.” You pointed out. He nodded, agreeing with your statement, he was always too busy with his fangirls that he'd always ‘forget’ to invite you to any of his games.

Initially, you thought he had genuinely good intentions for once to congratulate Shiratorizawa, until he opened his mouth and began spewing nonsense.

His attention turned back to Semi. “Funny how you got your spot taken by a second year, though.”

You could feel Semi stiffen from beside you, it was a sensitive topic to him, no matter how much he acknowledged Shirabu’s skills. It still hurts to know he lost his spot to a second year.

“You know, I’m guessing those penis enlargement pills you used to take finally started working, Oikawa.” He stared at you, utterly dumbfounded. “You’re more of a dick than you were the last time I met you.”

No, he didn’t actually take those, which is why it caught him off guard even more. “W-What?”

“You know it would be really unfortunate if Iwaizumi found out what you were doing over here.” He visibly stiffened, you knew Iwaizumi was one of the only people who could control the troublesome Oikawa Tooru, and you used that to your advantage to get him away from you and Semi.

He scoffed, turning his back on you two as he began walking away. “Wait till the Spring Interhigh Preliminaries, I’ll make you sorry.”

“I doubt that’s going to happen.” You snickered. “You’ll probably get your asses kicked by another team. So this is going to be our final goodbye Oikawa-san, my middle finger salutes you.” You announced, flipping him off as he rolled his eyes and headed back to his team.

“Jackass.” Nikki spat from behind you.

You smiled, nodding your head in agreement. “Jackass.”

_____________

You found yourself back under the cherry blossom tree that started your official relationship with Semi. You were both sitting by the bottom of the trunk, with you wrapped up in his arms, leaning into him.

“You know,” Semi began, his voice soft and sweet like honey. “I ended up liking you a lot more than I initially planned.” He admitted, planting a tender kiss on your temple.

“I guess Nikki’s ‘Fake Boyfriend Project’ turned out pretty well after all.” You smiled, looking up at him.

He nodded, his eyes filled with adoration and love as he met your gaze. “I love you.”

You smiled, leaning in and placing a tender kiss on his lips. “I love you too, Eita-kun.”

Notes:

it took every ounce of self control not to use nationals against Oikawa (i love him btw im sorry for making him a ‘jackass’ in this story)
