Chapter Text
Sirius's first problem was a half year-long detention.
It wasn't actually a half year long at the beginning, but then more and more stuff happened and well... It became half a year long.
Sometimes he was cleaning, writing or cutting stuff alone and sometimes with some other student, who also happened to do something bad.
Black didn't actually know most of them. He had never spent detentions with his friends, not since the last time when he and Susan destroyed the shelf and half of the books about Arabian Curing Spells on one of their detentions.
But this time he knew the student that he had the detention with just well enough to get the detention together, but not well enough to slyly get out of it together.
And he could have prevented all of this from happening if only he and Susan were smart enough to think ahead and realize what will happen if they start to throw ground from pots on Jefferey.
But no. They were never thinking ahead and now Black was stuck with Susan's half-brother on the detention.
And what's more, it wouldn't even be so bad if not for the fact that from all people Jeff was the only one that actually made Sirius feel unsure. And if he felt unsure he felt bad and when he felt bad on a detention then it was even more horrible than it had to be.
Black sighed with tiredness glancing slightly at the bored Ravenclaw, who had hands crossed on his chest and eyes glued to the ceiling. Sirius could bet Jeff was wondering how many pages of some book could he read by now.
But just as he was to comment that, professor Sprout finally arrived at the detention classroom and quickly started to open the door before them.
"Mr. Black, today you will clean the pots." She announced lightly, going into the classroom. "I trust you explain everything to Mr Sheppard." She added a moment later, opening one of the cupboards.
Only then Sirius and Jeff slowly walked inside as well - Padfoot while frowning, because he hated cleaning pots.
The Ravenclaw, on the other hand, seemed a bit out of track. Kind of like he expected the detention to be only a thread and the professor to simply say some moralizing words and let him go.
Sirius snorted at that. He wished he could be so pure to think so.
Sprout finally opened all the needed cupboards and straighten up turning around in a way that now she was facing her poor students.
"I wish you two good luck with those pots." She said. "It's a bit more than usual, but you are hard-working, especially you Mr. Sheppard. I trust you'll figure out how to take care of that quickly enough to get as much as possible done before the end of your detention." She said with a slight smile on her face, looking like she really believed in what she was saying.
Sirius rolled his eyes. He had nothing against Hufflepufs, really. They were great people. He knew plenty of great people from Hufflepuff, like for example... yy, well... he couldn't remember right then, but anyway, damn... Sometimes they were so oblivious that it physically hurted him.
The professor sighed deeply.
"I'll be back in two hours, I have a lot of things to do." She explained and with that words left the classroom with a motion that completely didn't confirm her words.
Sirius waited a few seconds more until he closed the door and took a deep breath.
Only then did he also look at Jeff once again. The Ravenclaw's face was pretty shocked and Sirius couldn't help but smile seeing that.
It didn't escape Shappard's notice who, seeing it, frowned and asked defensively.
"What's so funny?"
Sirius immediately changed his expression to neutral, but it was too late for him to avoid an answer.
So, finally Black cleared his throat and spoke up.
"I just thought that despite being in the sixth year you clearly have never been in detention before, have you?" Gryffindor raised his eyebrows.
Jeff frowned even deeper.
"Is it that clear?" He pursued his lips and looked away from Sirius. "It just sort of never... I just always managed to get away with things." The Ravenclaw explained, a bit embarrassed.
Sirius was silent for a moment, fighting with himself on whether he should or shouldn't say what was on his mind. But finally, he shook out of it and spit out before he got to change his mind.
"Teach me how to do that then. I'm having detention almost since the beginning of the year."
That made Jeff look back on Black.
"What on Merlin's beard have you done?" He wanted to know.
Sirius laughed half embarrassed and half content that Jeff actually wanted to know.
"What haven't I done?" He laughed, but seeing Jeff's confused expression, explained it more seriously. "Not anything big. It just started from the three weeks long detention, when I flew on my broom straight into charms classroom, while I was practicing Quidditch during the lessons instead of being on them. Then there were more and more things and it started to get longer and longer..." Sirius hang his voice for a moment, drifting away with thoughts. "And when it finally ended three days ago now I got another one." He finished finally.
Jeff blinked a few times.
"Damn, that must suck, man." He admitted trying not to sound too surprised. "Good thing you don't have N.E.W.Ts this year."
Sirius shrugged.
"Not like I'm going to learn to them that much anyway." He snorted. "I'm not a Ravenclaw."
And only after a moment, he realized he just said that to a Ravenclaw.
His eyes went wide and he felt a sudden, panicked urge to explain himself as fast as possible.
"Of course I don't have anything against Ravenclaws." He mumbled quickly, surprised himself that he even did that. "I just don't feel a need to study that much and Ravenclaws are practically a symbol of studying so I just said so... involuntarily."
Jeff blinked a few times eyeing Sirius from his head to his toes a bit longer than he should.
Finally, he answered slowly.
"As for Gryffindor, you're pretty anxious." He decided. "Kind of more than usual, I guess."
Sirius pursed his lips. Of course, he was anxious. He always was anxious when Jeff was around and he could do nothing about it.
Despite that Black cleared his throat and answered.
"I'm just tired." He summed it up and then caught up to the only thing that came to his mind and would change the topic of the conversation. "I guess we should start cleaning those pots though."
Jeff raised his eyebrows on Sirius clearly realizing it was just a change of the topic, not a real concern about the amount of the pots they'd get to clean.
Despite that, he didn't push it. Instead, he actually went to the cupboard, took some pots out and started getting ready to clean them up.
Sirius sighed with relief and slowly went to the cupboard himself, deciding that he rathered clean this shit instead of explaining his anxiety to Jeff.
But little did he know it wasn't the end.
At first, they were both silent, getting their pots ready and taking out all the other stuff.
Sirius only broke the silence once or twice to explain to Jeff how does that type of detention work exactly and soon they both started to wipe the pots clean.
That is, until Jeff interrupted the silence again.
"I heard you have a party every Friday." He started.
Sirius murmured something impossible to understand under his breath before clearing his throat and answering.
"Yeah. Em, just a little get together with me, James, Remus, Susan, Peter and sometimes Evans. Why?" He spit out.
Jeff shrugged, seemingly unconcerned and gazed at Sirius from over his pots.
"Oh, I just wondered. Is it any fun? I mean every Friday? It must be tiring." He assumed.
Black snorted quietly and smiled.
"Oh no, it isn't. A great way to chill out actually." But then he went gloomy again. "That is if I don't have detention before."
The Gryffindor put the pot on the side with a bit more force than required.
Jeff raised his eyebrows, but instead of commenting it somehow, he simply continued.
"But tomorrow you don't have detention anymore, right?" He made sure.
Sirius looked up at him, a bit surprised that the Ravenclaw was this curious about that party.
"Yeah, unless something will happen, I don't." Black confirmed.
"So..." Jeff put his pot away looking now straight on the Gryffindor. "It's going to be more fun than ever, huh?"
Srius also stopped cleaning his pots and raised an eyebrow on Sheppard.
"Well I won't be tired, so maybe we will do some fun things, why?" Answered Black.
Jeff shrugged once again and waved his hand with nonchalance.
"Oh, I just wondered how it looks like. Ravenclaws almost never have parties." He admitted.
"Oh, wanna come and visit, then?" Spit out Sirius before thinking ahead, once again - and before he knew what happened Jeff was coming on their little party, which wasn't actually even planned yet.
