Summary
The silence creeps up on him when he walks down the hall from a meeting, and hears the music from the practice room and the laughs and shouts of the members practicing. The silence tightens in his chest when Jungsoo pops out to get a new water bottle and their eyes meet from across the hall; Jungsoo, in sweatpants and a tank top that shows more skin than it covers, and Heechul in his track suits, zipped up and warm and his hair styled into a rat's nest atop his head.
Every time their eyes meet, the moment replays in his head, Jungsoo whispering between shuddered breaths and sobs, This needs to stop. We need to stop. I can't disappoint my parents.
Their eyes don't meet in 2014. Heechul, like the others, stands with him, offers him support, and Jungsoo turns them down with only a few words in a quiet voice. Heechul knows Jungsoo better than that. He watches as Jungsoo silently packs up from the dorm and leaves, and he doesn't come back even once he's home from the military. The dorm is quieter without him.
Heechul moves out too.
