Work Text:
Midoriya had been going out with Uraraka for a couple of months now. Even so, it still gave him butterflies to be calling her his girlfriend. Today, he had planned to relax for a little while as it is one of the few breaks he has as a hero in training.
Since moving into dorms, he, along with the rest of his class, were still allowed to receive letters & gifts from family members since they were unable to physically see them due to safety regulations. However, the gifting process did take a while as anything gifted to any student would have to be put under a high security check to assure that it wasn’t any threat to anyone.
Today, he finally received the gift that his mother had been asking about whether or not he had received it. He didn’t know what it was as his mother didn’t give any information about it, but he knew that it was a couple’s gift for him & his girlfriend. His mother made it too which added an extra sweet element to it. His mother was always so caring & supportive. She always looked out for him, even if she was worried sick about him everyday.
Finally, the gift was in his hands & he & Uraraka decided to head over to her room to open it. It was in a simple postal box with a note from Inko:
‘Matching & made just for the two of you!’
-Love Mom’
That was nice of her. When they opened the box, they were surely surprised.
Holding them up, they were two black T-shirts. Both sewn from a simple black fabric. Printed on them were very cheesy, matching, couple phrases on them. The kinds you would find at an amusement park or on valentine’s day.
Midoriya’s had on a slice of bacon with the phrase: ‘Don’t Go BACON My Heart’ while Uraraka had a fried egg on her shirt with a caption that said: ‘I Couldn’t If I FRIED’
Needless to say, really cheesy. The two students stared blankly at the shirts in front of them for a little while, unsure of what to say or how to respond. They were handmade, & really nice. Uraraka never had anything like this ever done before. But it did look a little embarrassing, which felt awful to even think about since clearly, a lot of effort was put into these shirts. They were handmade clothes just for her & her boyfriend. Made by his mom.
“So uh, whaddya think?” Midoriya asked.
“O-oh uhm…” the brunette tried to find the right words which just came out as confusion. “They’re...interesting,” she finally said. Oh god, that sounded so much nicer in her head.
Midoriya nodded. “Yeah, I’d say so too…”
More silence fell.
“Soooo… do we put them on?” she asked.
Midoriya nodded. “Seems like a good idea I guess. I’ll go change in my room,” he said, heading out with his shirt.
Uraraka finished changing into the shirt. She walked out of her room, staring down at it. It was a little big & slightly baggy. She didn’t mind it, it was actually kinda cosy. Whatever this material it was made in, it couldn’t have been cheap. Looking at it, the stitching was so nice & clean. Perfectly sewn. Kinda like how she had sewn Midoriya’s first hero costume. Now she felt even worse about it all. Forcing herself to like it would feel dishonest, but telling the truth would be so hurtful. She offends Midoriya & his mom by saying anything. But lying isn’t good either.
She sighed, clenching some of the shirt’s fabric. She’d just have to not bring up anything about the clothes unless asked about it. Those answers would be simple answers too just so she doesn’t give her fully honest opinion. She didn’t want to hurt anyone.
When Midoriya walked over to her, she had to hide her face, seeing how Midoriya looked. The same face was shared as he too wasn’t so fond of the outfits. It was also baggy on him as well which was a surprise considering that his mom should know his size & measurements. Then again, he did gain a lot of muscle since his stay at the dorms, so maybe she wasn’t completely sure anymore & just went with something oversized on purpose.
Yeah, that’s probably it.
Still, anything Midoriya wore looked good on him. No matter how cheesy the phrase was. Though, it didn’t stop her from inwardly cringing at the puns.
“Your mom went through so much trouble for this stuff, huh?” Uraraka asked.
Midoriya nodded. “Y-yeah. She likes to go a little overboard sometimes. But that’s just her I guess.” He let out a small chuckle, followed by an awkward cough, trying to break the silence.
“Wanna go over to the kitchen & get food? I can cook for us,” Midoriya suggests.
Uraraka nodded. “Sure!” she said, making her way to the kitchen, following her boyfriend.
Entering the kitchen, the two of them greeted a few of their other classmates who were either eating or watching T.V, in the common area.
The two began cooking, grabbing stuff from the kitchen, their new shirts in full view of everyone.
Those who had a chance to read it snickered at the horrible puns, whispering to each other about them.
“Nice shirts you two,” Sero chuckled.
The two sensed Sero’s sarcasm & both cringed, instantly regretting what they were wearing.
“Where the hell did you get that from?” Kaminari asked, reading the shirts. He stepped into the kitchen to get a closer look.
“Deku’s mom made it for us to wear as a couple,” Uraraka explained.
Todoroki put the food he was eating down for a moment, looking up at the couple. “They aren’t so bad compared to others I have seen before,” he said. “Kinda expected for you two though since you seem to be the couple most likely to do this, so it isn’t really a surprise.”
“I mean, I guess we’d kinda would be that couple…” Uraraka said, pulling out some ingredients.
Kaminari reached into the fridge, holding a pack of bacon along with some eggs. “Hey look, it’s you two!” he said.
The two shook their heads. Kaminari would always tease someone if the opportunity arises. Like right now. They ignored the joking & continued to get food to make until a certain student got their attention.
“Has anyone seen a box sent out today?” Kirishima asked. He held a brown postal box in his hands. It looked almost identical to the one Midoriya received. Still, neither of them caught on.
Everyone shook their heads.
“Just something that Deku’s mom made us,” Uraraka answered, pointing to their matching shirts.
Kirishima’s eyes widened & he flushed an embarrassed expression. “O-oh...so...you found them!” he said.
“Found what?” Midoriya asked.
“Well ya see, my mom works for this T-shirt brand making company & I asked if she could make matching couple shirts for me & Katsuki,” he explained. “Looks like you found ‘em!”
Midoriya looked down at his & Uraraka shirts. “O-ohhh these are your shirts!” he said.
“Well, that explains the sizes,” Uraraka said, lifting her shirt to the side, showing how long & large it really was.
Kirishima nodded, his cheeks still red. “Yeahhh, I think I have your box too,” he said, handing it to them. “Kinda awkward to ask you guys, but would you mind switching? If not, I can always just ask my mom to make a new pair for us-”
“If they were yours in the first place, then sure!” Uraraka said. She was actually a little relieved, as bad as that may sound, that she didn’t have to wear that shirt anymore. That felt really awful to think though. But, she felt way better knowing that it wasn’t a hand sewn outfit made by her boyfriend’s mother.
Midoriya was also rather relieved. He loved his mom, but sometimes she would give him really embarrassing things, so he was just glad that she didn’t put so much effort into something he would always be embarrassed wearing.
The two came back after changing, exchanging the packages. This time, Midoriya’s real present was in front of them. It was opened, obviously by Kirishima, & it was a box smaller by just a little bit.
Taking out the contents, the two looked at the present in front of them. Hand sewn plushies of pro hero Deku & pro hero Uravity. They were able to fit into their arms. The deku plushie was addressed to Uraraka while the Uravity plushie was addressed to Midoriya. Inside of the box was a note written by Inko:
‘So you two can always have your hero by your side’
Midoriya gave a fond smile, looking at the Uravity doll, then at Uraraka. “Your doll really shows how cute you are in real life, y’know…” he said. Even now, flirting would always make him really flustered, but somehow, he managed to keep his composure & not immediately hide his face in his hands.
Uraraka gave a smile. “Same goes for you,” she replied. “But the real Deku’s even better.”
Midoriya couldn’t hide his blush for much longer, so he opted to hide his face on his girlfriend’s shoulder, hugging his Uravity plushie in his arms.
Uraraka smiled, hugging him back gently petting his head, being sure to keep her pinky up so as to not float her boyfriend away. They stayed like this for a moment longer until their stomachs began to rumble. That’s right. They didn’t eat yet.
Uraraka pulled away, looking at him. “To the kitchen?”
Midoirya nodded, announcing triumphantly: “To the kitchen!”
