Work Text:
You had woken up sick, your nose was stuffed and you had a terrible migraine. It would be just your luck for you to get sick during the one week you and Asami had time off. Your life had been hectic since you agreed to date the one and only Asami Sato. You worked day and night alongside her to continue engineering modernized materials and inventions for Republic City. It was a daunting task, but you loved doing it with her.
You groaned as you finally pushed yourself up to rest against the headboard, a sudden throbbing pain pulsing through your head. your eyes peeled open as you heard the door creak, a smile appearing on your tired face as you saw Asami. She was beautiful even so early in the morning. Her hair framed her beautiful face, little strands sticking out from tossing and turning in bed. Her eyes were half closed as she walked further into the room, those pools of green washing over you with concern.
“You don’t look so great...are you alright?” She asked, sitting herself down on the edge of the bed. Her hand gently touched yours running circles around your soft skin. You let out a sigh, leaning back against the bed.
“I think I may be sick…” you admitted begrudgingly. “I feel terrible.”
Asami shook her head and leaned forward, pressing her soft lips against your temple. A small smile appeared on your lips again as you looked at her, your hand moving so that it could hold hers.
“Why do you feel terrible? It’s not like you got sick on purpose.” Asami laughed, shaking her head.
“True it’s just...we finally have time off and now I’m too sick to get out of bed.” You hung your head low, letting out a groan as you did.
Asami smiled, crossing her arms. She couldn’t help but laugh at your attempt to be dramatic. She patted you on the leg before getting back up to her feet.
“Okay so, let’s have a date night in bed?” She suggested. “I can rent us a mover and get us some food and we can stay here and relax. We don’t have to go anywhere.”
You blushed darkly, your heart fluttering as you reminded yourself how much you loved this amazing woman. You finally nodded, letting the blanket that you had now pulled up to your nose drop just enough to show your excited grin. Asami grinned and kissed the tip of your nose before leaving the room. She grabbed her jacket and her keys and was soon off to venture through Republic City.
Asami knew you quite well, and she loved nothing more than to please you and make you happy. She didn’t know what she would do without you. After her Father passed, you were the first to be right by her side and help her through the grief. From there your relationship blossomed and now the two of you were inseparable. Asami smiled as she thought about it, walking into the local shop you two visited frequently. The old man at the counter grinned and waved excitedly as she walked in.
“Asami Sato! It’s so good to see you! Where is Y/N?”
“They aren’t feeling so great,” she admitted, grabbing your favorite snack as she spoke. “Looks like all the hard work they’ve been doing finally caught up to them.”
“Oh poor thing, they do work hard.” the man nodded, rubbing his chin. “Well the mover is on me today then!”
Asami looked up, eyes wide. “Wait I couldn’t….are you sure?”
“Yes! I demand it, you two are my favorites who come in here. You’re always so nice and so sweet together.” the man grinned widely as he spoke. “You have to pay for the snacks though.”
Asami laughed and nodded, rather amused with the statement as she continued her search through the store.

Back at home, you had finally managed to get yourself out of bed and cleaned up. You still felt guilty about being sick, but Asami had a point, it wasn’t something you could control. The two of you had been working endlessly for quite some time now, if anything, it was finally catching up to you. However that didn’t stop you from trying your best to make this date perfect. Sure, Asami said not to worry and she’d take care of it, but you couldn’t let her do all the work. When did you ever let her do all the work?
So as soon as you had had a nice cup of tea and a shower, you went to work. You were determined to make this as romantic and special as possible, so you dug through the closet, pulling out all of the extra blankets. You dragged them into the bedroom, piling them all onto the bed, before slowly starting to arrange them into a way that created a fort over the bed. Asami didn’t like when you used your bending in the house, however this felt necessary to make the perfect hideaway for tonight's movie date. You lifted your hands slowly, bending pieces of metal to create posts for the blankets, then as best as you could, you threw the blankets over the top, creating a makeshift tent over the bed. Once satisfied, you move to bring the remaining blankets and pillows into the fort, propping them up to create a wall of comfort.
Sniffling, you grinned, looking at your creation. Now, what else could you do to make it even better? You groaned as you moved off the bed, your muscles starting to ache from the cold. You refused to let it defeat you, however. You made your way into the kitchen, grabbing the bottle of wine you two had recently bought from the fridge, and two glasses. You knew Asami would bring the snacks, so the least you could do was bring the drinks. You placed the bottle and the glasses in the middle of the bed before laying back down. You giggled at the thought of Asami coming home and seeing you laying there, but your eyes grew heavy and your breathing slowed, and soon you were fast asleep.
~
Asami opened the door and glided across the hallway and into the kitchen. She placed the snacks on the kitchen counter, organizing everything perfectly. As an engineer everything always had to be perfect. Nothing could be out of place. So she did exactly what she knew you liked. She made a bag of popcorn, and grabbed your [insert favorite candy/chocolate] and hurried into the room.
“(Y/N) I’m back, I’ve got-” she paused, then chuckled as she realized you were sound asleep on the bed. The chilled bottle of wine now resting against your shoulder and the glasses toppled over on her side of the bed.
She walked over quietly and set the snacks out, before slowly pulling the bottle away from your shoulder. You shifted and slowly opened your eyes, grinning tiredly.
“Asami! You’re back!” You flung your arms out, reaching for a hug and Asami rolled her eyes playfully, shaking her head.
“Yes, you know you can sleep more if you want.” she said, leaning in to give a hug.
“Absolutely not, did you see what I did? I made us a fort, and I brought the drinks.”
“You are absolutely ridiculous, you know that?” Asami bursted out laughing. She grabbed the snacks and pushed them through the opening of the blankets before disappearing to grab the mover. When she came back, you had gotten everything settled in the middle of the bed and turned the main lights of the room off, so that the tent was simply illuminated by your desk light and the setting sun outside your window.
Asami turned the mover on, wrapping her around you to pull you closer. Her lips gently grazed against your forehead. “I love you,” she giggled quietly. “Thank you for the fort...it’s a nice touch.”
“I love you too, and of course.” You scooted closer and rested your head on her shoulder.
She intertwined her fingers with yours, bringing them up to her lips as she kissed each digit. She loved nothing more than to share moments like these with you, and she knew that this was exactly how she wanted to spend the rest of her life. Doing silly romantic things like this with someone who was just as passionate about what they did as Asami was. You felt the same way.
Asami turned to look at you, her hand untangling from yours and touching your cheek gently. She caressed it, her eyes staring into your own. You both held your gaze briefly, taking the moment to really look at one another. Taking in the beauty that was Asami and the beauty that was you. The credits began to roll as the mover finished, which quite frankly didn’t matter to either of you because you were too caught up in each other's presence. You sniffled, wiping your nose on your sleeve and blushed embarrassingly.
“Sorry I’m a mess…” you laughed. “But I really enjoyed tonight with you.”
“You aren’t a mess,” Asami chuckled, stroking your cheek with her thumb. “And I really enjoyed tonight too. I love you.”
“And I love you.”
