Chapter Text
Chamomile (fluff, Blackwatch era)
Jesse McCree loves drinking tea. You wouldn’t expect it from someone like him, but seeing the cowboy holding his favorite mug while steam flits around his beard is strangely adorable. With years of combat and time in the Deadlock gang, you would expect him to be tough all the time, but he is goofy and sweet. After a long week of missions, you would hang out in his room with him all night, usually watching some western he chose and drinking tea. He was your best friend on base, and you trusted him with your life. You both were sharpshooters, and while you would never admit it to his face, he was 10x a better shot than you. You worked together a lot and shared a lot of experiences with Blackwatch, so naturally you became close.
Tonight was one such night. You were both exhausted and ready to just pass out, but you carried on the tradition of watching a movie and drinking tea. You arrive at his room in your flannel pyjama pants and a black overwatch-issued tank top. He opens the door with a sleepy grin and hands you a mug, you take a sniff expecting just some black tea or earl grey, you are pleasantly surprised.
“What is this? Smells new,”
“Yes ma’am, Captain Amari said I should try it. Called Chamomile.”
You step into his room and take a sip. He closes the door behind you as you make your way towards the couch. It’s delicious and calming. It’s sweeter than you are used to, but it’s definitely not bad. You glance back at Jesse, who is trying to find a movie to watch in his collection of discs. Who even uses discs now? His dark hair hanging slightly in his face, loose pyjama pants hugging his hips and a tight T-shirt covering his upper-half. You were still standing near his couch just looking around at things when he put a movie on and sat down.
“Darlin’ are ya gonna sit and stay a while?” he asked with a chuckle.
You were so used to the pet names by now it didn’t even phase you. Sometimes you wonder if he even knows your name now.
“Yeah, sorry. I just got distracted. This tea is good by the way.”
“M’glad ya like it.”
You moved to sit on the other end of the small couch in his room. You looked at the television finally and noticed what was playing.
“Jesse, this isn’t an old western movie. . .”
“I know Sweet Pea.” The title then flashes on screen. Some weird horror movie and you are not impressed.
“Now McCree, you know I don’t like getting scared.”
“Y’ain’t got no reason to be scared, i’ll hold ya,” he says with a wink. You choke on your tea and start to laugh.
“Jesse, you aren’t so lonely that you’ve resorted to flirting with me, have you?”
“I just think yer good company is all,” he says to you with a sheepish grin. He seems so sincere.
You take another sip of your tea and jump when a loud bang comes from the Television. He reaches over and takes the mug from your hand and places it on the little coffee table by the couch. You are staring at the television now, engrossed in the film, but waiting for the inevitable jump-scare. Jesse is staring at you. He sips his tea. The sweet smell and flowery taste reminds him of you. It tasted happy, safe even, and that’s how he felt with you.
//CLANG///
The jumpscare had finally come and you just about jumped out of your skin and he just laughed. You were holding a pillow over your face. Jesse leans over and pulls you into his arms, your back meets his chest and you are reclined against him. You are about to ask him what he’s thinking when his hand starts to run through your hair. It’s so calming and you just lean back into him more.
“See darlin’, I said I would hold ya if ya got scared.”
You just nodded and stared at the television, unsure of what to say. He wraps an arm around your front, one knee propped up next to your leg, while the other is just outstretched alongside yours, his other hand still holding his mug.
‘Jesse,”
You feel him tense up. He assumes you are about to tell him to back off.
“Can. . . can you hand me my mug?”
He smiles and nods, handing you the mug. You both enjoy your tea while you occasionally jump at the loud sounds coming from the television. His plan had definitely worked, you were scared so easily by ghost movies and now you were cozied up against his chest. Your tea was long gone and you were both starting to nod off to sleep. He reached to your hand and took the empty mug, placing it back on the table. He leaned you both back a bit more, so you weren’t sitting straight up. He grabbed a big blanket off the back of the couch and covered you both up as best as he could. You had a moment where you were a bit more awake and looked at him.
“Jesse, I can head back to my room-”
“You should stay,” he interrupted very quietly as he started to run his hands through your hair again. You just nodded, smiled, and said thanks. Sleep quickly took you. Safety and warmth wrapping around your body in the form of your most trusted friend. Jesse switched the television over to some western channel and hummed softly. Sleep started to wash over his body as well, his arms still holding you close to his chest, his head lightly resting on the top of yours.
Hopefully this will become your weekly tradition.
