Work Text:
Shouto opened his eyes and turned over, sensing that Inasa wasn't in bed with him anymore. He figured that he went to go tend to the twins. He sat up and yawned, looking at the clock on the nightstand, seeing that it was 1 in the morning. He got out of bed and headed towards the 4 month old twins' nursery, opening the door to see that they weren't in their crib and that Inasa wasn't with them. He felt panic rise in his chest as he practically sprinted to the living room, filled with worry until he saw Inasa, half asleep watching Ponyo, Ikuko and Ichiro laying on his chest, both awake, babbling softly. Shouto sighed in relief. Inasa noticed him and blinked the sleep from his eyes.
"What are you doing out of bed, Shou ?" He asked.
"I could ask you the same thing." Shouto said, nodding towards him and the twins. "What are you all doing out of bed ? It's late."
"Twins woke up and I didn't want to wake you." Inasa said. "After I changed their diapers, they wouldn't go back to sleep, so I decided to hang out with them, I hope the TV wasn't too loud that it woke you."
Shouto sighed in relief and shook his head as he sat next to Inasa. He took Ikuko off of his chest and held her. He had to, to calm himself down.
"You almost gave me a heart attack, I thought something happened to you." Shouto said. "I couldn't find you guys and feared for the worst."
"We were just in the living room, we're fine." Inasa said. "Hopefully they'll go back to bed or else we'll have to call in late for work."
"Maybe we can just take the day off tomorrow." Shouto said, rubbing Ikuko's back, trying to get her to sleep. "We're new parents, they'll understand, or we can take the night shift, I'm sure mom and Fuyumi would be okay with taking them for one night and that someone would switch shifts with us." He yawned. He chuckled as he watched the TV screen.
"I remember you got me to try ramen with ham because of this movie." He said. "I still prefer soba but ramen with ham is oddly... comforting. I tried soba with ham too. It's pretty good."
"My mom used to make it for me all the time when I was little and we couldn't afford udon . I still prefer udon, but ramen with ham is still a nice comfort food for when you're feeling down. You think the twins will prefer soba or udon ?"
"I'm guessing.... Ichiro, soba and Ikuko, udon." Shouto said. "Maybe they'll go their own route and prefer ramen, somen or yakisoba."
"They might prefer rice or broth instead of noodles." Inasa said. Shouto hit his shoulder.
"Don't even joke about that." Shouto said. Inasa chuckled softly.
"Okay, okay, you're right, I'm sorry !" Inasa said. "I hope I didn't jinx us, this is a noodle eating family only." He looked down on his chest to see that Ichiro had fallen asleep, fists balled up, snoring softly. "Ichiro's asleep. What about Ikuko ?"
"On her way." Shouto whispered. "Her eyes are starting to close." He rubbed Ikuko's back, seeing her yawn softly as her eyes fluttered shut. It wasn't long before he started to hear her snore softly too, curling up a little in Shouto's arms. He smiled at how peaceful she looked. What he wouldn't give to have a good night's sleep like that again. He never got a good night's sleep before he and Inasa started living together. He had so many restless nights but Inasa holding him in bed helped him sleep. But since the twins were here, his sleep schedule was back to being frazzled. He couldn't wait for the twins to start sleeping through the night, so that he wouldn't have to get up so often for late night nursings or late night diaper changings. Even though he and Inasa took turns getting up to check on the twins, it was still exhausting for the both of them. Inasa suggested to take a break and leave the babies with Rei and Fuyumi for a full day and a night but Shouto was hesitant to agree to it. He still wanted to keep his babies close to him, no matter how badly he wanted to catch up on sleep. He still had lurking anxieties about being separated from his children for long amounts of time. He wasn't ready to start separating from them. He looked at Inasa.
"We should put them to bed now." Shouto said, carefully standing up, holding Ikuko close to his chest. Inasa nodded and did the same, following Shouto to the twins room. Shouto gently put Ikuko in the crib, Inasa doing the same with Ichiro. They sighed in relief as the twins stayed asleep. They turned on the baby monitor before quietly leaving the room and shutting the door, going back to their bedroom. They both crawled into bed, Inasa wrapping his arms around Shouto. Shouto could only sleep soundly when Inasa was holding him.
"How are you feeling ?" Inasa asked, resting his chin on Shouto's shoulder.
"I'm feeling fine." Shouto said. "Just tired."
"What if we just call off tomorrow ?" Inasa asked. "We can take turns looking after the babies and take turns catching up on sleep? We can use one of our vacation days."
"That sounds like a good idea." Shouto said, yawning.
"I'll take the kids in the morning and when they get put down for their afternoon nap, I'll wake you up and catch some sleep." Inasa said.
"You were up with them tonight though..." Shouto said. "I should take the morning while you take the afternoon, it's the least I could do. Then at night, I'll tend to them first whenever they need anything."
"If that's how you want to do it, it's fine by me." Inasa said, kissing his husband's cheek. "I'll call us off in the morning. Get some rest, Shouto. I love you."
"I love you too. Get some rest..." Shouto said, smiling as he closed his eyes, as he felt himself drift to sleep.
