Work Text:

Can’t count the years on one hand that we’ve been together

It all started in Sayaka Igarashi’s freshman year. The moment she locked eyes with the student council president, she only wanted one thing: to be her number one.

I need the other one to hold you, make you feel, make you feel better

Working as Kirari’s secretary was far from easy, but Sayaka persevered for years. Besides, being on the student council had its benefits.

One day, Sayaka was making Kirari her usual morning tea, earl grey. She poured the boiling water in the teacup and let it steep. Suddenly, she heard footsteps against the wood flooring of the student council room. Two slim arms wrapped around her torso and she felt someone’s breath on her ear.

“What are we making, Sayaka?” the president asked, a hint of amusement in her voice as she watched Sayaka’s cheeks redden. The latter fumbled with the teapot and stuttered before answering her.

“E-Earl grey, Madam President.”

“Ah, I see.” Kirari feigned interest, using this moment to place her hand over Sayaka’s, holding it in place. “Your hands are shaking. Be careful, we wouldn’t want to spill the tea now, would we?”

“Right. Of course, President. My apologies.” she muttered, embarrassed. Still, she savored the feeling of the president’s hand over hers.

It’s not a walk in the park to love each other

Sayaka had finally realized her feelings for the president were much more than just admiration. She was in love with Kirari Momobami.

Every day, walking into the student council room and seeing the mischievous glint in the president’s eyes was like falling in love with her over and over again. She knew that she shouldn’t be feeling this way, but she couldn’t resist.

But when our fingers interlock, can’t deny, can’t deny, you’re worth it

“Sayaka?”

Sayaka looked up from the life plan she was currently working on. “Yes, President?”

“Would you like to walk home with me? It is getting quite dark outside.” the light-haired girl asked, peering out the window at the sun setting. Sayaka felt confused and honored. Why would Kirari want to walk with her? Surely she had more important things to be doing.

“Ah, i-it’s okay, President. I can always call a ride home if it gets too dark.” she replied, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.

Kirari looked disappointed. “No, I insist. You’re coming with me.” She walked over to Sayaka, abruptly grabbing her hand and pulling her out of her seat.

“Wait! President, the life plans-”

“Shh.” she said, placing a finger over the secretary’s lips. Sayaka blushed and went silent.

Kirari put on her jacket and led them outside. They walked alongside each other in complete silence. It felt oddly intimate, even if it was a little awkward at first. The wind blew at Sayaka’s skin, causing her to shiver. She was only wearing her uniform.

Kirari seemed to notice this, and stripped herself of her jacket to wrap it around the younger girl’s shoulders. “There you go.” Sayaka gasped at the new feeling of warmth, her heart racing at the thought of wearing Kirari’s jacket.

“President, I-”

“Kirari. Call me Kirari. We’re not in school anymore.” She interrupted, correcting Sayaka.

“Oh! I’m sorry, K-Kirari.”

“Much better.” She reached down to intertwine her fingers with Sayaka’s, swinging their hands in between them as they walked. Sayaka wondered if her cheeks would ever return to their normal complexion at this point. Her heart beat rapidly and she felt almost giddy. It was the feeling she had longed for, ever since the day she was hired by the Momobami girl.

‘Cause after all this time, I’m still into you

It was the day of graduation, and everyone was sitting around the courtyard, chatting and bidding farewell to their peers. Usually, Sayaka was not the type to enjoy these types of events, but the President would be performing a speech at the end of the festival. She wanted nothing more than to stay here with her beloved forever, but unfortunately, all good things must come to an end.

She watched as Kirari bantered with the principal, waving her hands in exaggeration as she spoke. Over the past few years, she had learned so much about the president. Like how she wore reading glasses when filling out paperwork, or how she could name ocean facts off the top of her head.

It felt- nice. Sayaka was one of the few people that knew what Kirari was like deep down. That the cold-blooded clan leader wasn’t just the sadistic maniac everyone saw her as, but that she had a heart and cared about the people she loved.

Sayaka was not ready to let go of her president, but she knew that it had to be done. She felt tears form at the corners of her eyes, and quickly rubbed them against the sleeve of her blazer before they would spill.

They were approaching the end of the ceremony, where Kirari would give her speech and the seniors would officially graduate. The secretary sat down on a cobblestone wall and primly crossed her legs at the knee. A loud voice came over the speakers.

“Umm, can you hear me?” It was the principal, an old, burly man with a long grey beard down to his chest. He tapped the microphone. “Great. I’d like to thank everyone for gathering today. Another eventful year has passed, and more fine young men and women will be leaving here today to pursue their passions and dreams. Now, before we start the graduation announcements, our student council President Kirari Momobami would like to say a word or two.”

The president smiled politely, moving past him and adjusting the microphone to her height. “Ahem. Hello, students of Hyakkaou. My name is Kirari Momobami. It has been a pleasure to work at this prestigious school for so many years. I have had so many unique experiences here and met so many new people who you won’t find anywhere else in the country. I know that sometimes life can be tough here, but I promise with all of my heart that it will work out in the end. You just have to persevere and stick with the ones you love until the end.” Sayaka swore that she saw Kirari’s gaze fall upon her while she said that.

“Uhm, speaking of which, I’d like to mention somebody who has really helped me through these past few years and has certainly proved her dedication to her work throughout our time at this school.” Kirari continued, her voice booming over the speakers. “Her name is Sayaka Igarashi, secretary of my student council. Sayaka? Would you please stand up?”

The violet haired girl blushed, flattered and embarrassed when everyone turned to look at her. Slowly, she stood up on wobbly legs, awkwardly waving towards the president.

“There she is. A woman so simple, yet I never seem to understand. A leader, with a burning passion in her heart brighter than any star. And a friend, a kind heart driven by logic.” Kirari’s voice faltered, watching her secretary cover her face with her hands in embarrassment.

“So, that concludes my little speech. I know you guys want to get out of here, so I’m going to pass the microphone back to Principal Nakamura now.” Kirari bowed, stepping off the stage and taking a seat off to the side.

After the announcements, Sayaka desperately wandered around, looking for her president. This can’t be the end, she thought. I have to say something to her!

The senior aimlessly walked around for minutes, hoping to catch a glimpse of that beautiful braided hair. Suddenly, two men walked in front of her, blocking her path. She took a few steps back and accidentally bumped into someone. “Oh, I’m sor-”

She turned around, only to face Kirari Momobami, with a soft smile plastered on her face.

Sayaka had forgotten everything she was about to say. She searched for the right words, for an explanation to something. Sayaka Igarashi spoke using logic, made logical decisions, and relied on logic for everything.

So why did she feel driven by her emotions?

Those perfect lips, smooth and painted with blue. This was her last chance. She threw all logic out the window, and made a stupid, risky decision.

She grabbed Kirari’s face and crashed their lips together. Kirari seemed startled at first, her hands sitting awkwardly by her sides before reaching up to wrap around Sayaka’s back and pull her closer. The younger girl melted into the kiss, desperately bringing her hands to Kirari’s shoulders for support.

When they parted, they both panted and gasped for air. Kirari brought her hand up to cup Sayaka’s cheek. A pink blush painted her cheeks. “Sayaka-” She leaned forward, bringing their foreheads together.

The secretary giggled. “I don’t know how long I’ve been waiting to do that.”

“Just think how long I’ve been waiting, dear. I was afraid you would never do it.” Kirari responded, pulling Sayaka into a sweet embrace.

“I- I couldn’t leave you. Not without saying goodbye.” She buried her head into the older girl’s shoulder. “I still can’t believe I did that. I acted without thinking.”

Kirari chuckled. “There’s nothing to be ashamed of, darling. I’m glad you did, because I don’t think I had the courage to do it myself.” Sayaka hummed, pulling away from the hug to face her president.

“K-Kirari, I-” The violet-haired girl grabbed Kirari’s hand, holding it in place. “I love you. I’ve loved you for a long time and I just didn’t know how to say it and-”

“I know, Sayaka.” The older girl responded, rubbing her thumb over Sayaka’s palm reassuringly. “I love you too. You’re my number one.”

Sayaka gasped, her hands flying to her mouth to conceal the noise. She felt the tears streaming down her face, and this time, she didn’t try to hide them.

Kirari pulled her in, tracing shapes on her back with her fingers in an attempt to comfort her. Sayaka sobbed into her uniform. “I love you and I- I don’t know why I’m crying!”

“It’s okay, Sayaka.” Kirari said. “It’s okay to cry. I understand.”

They stayed like that for a few more minutes. But, they both knew that the ceremony was coming to an end. The younger girl looked up, wiping the tears from her face. “You know, we have to leave soon.”

“Listen to me, Sayaka.” Kirari ordered, grabbing Sayaka’s jaw and forcing her to look into her eyes. “I know that we won’t be able to see each other for now but- promise that we’ll meet again, my dear?”

Sayaka reached for Kirari’s strong forearms, just needing to grab something. “Y-Yes, Kirari. I will find you once again someday, I promise.”

Kirari stood up, brushing the dirt off her front. She looked down at her beloved in sorrow. “Goodbye, Sayaka.”

Yeah, after all this time, I’m still into you
