In silence, Kirari accepted Sayaka’s arrogance like the fields do with rain. She observed the young features of that woman in the light of her home. Her legs trembled for a moment but she didn’t uncross them.
For Sayaka, there was something forbidden under that silk, something dangerous, more than aqua fortis, more than a gun. There was something dangerous in her chest as Kirari leaned forward and left the letter-opener on the table. They were so close one could smell the other’s perfume and wondered if the other could do the same.
“For the rest of your life, you said,” said Kirari. “Is that what you wish?”
“Yes. For the rest of my life… by your side.”
