Work Text:

The promise (BGM - Fade Away by Sugarfree)

While Hinata was waiting for his class hours to finish, he felt something that vibrated from his right pocket. He took a glance at his professor who's busy lecturing in front of the class, remembered that he wouldn't care less about what his students are doing as long as no one interrupts his lecture, welcome to college life . Hinata fished out his phone from his pocket and saw his boyfriend's caller I.D. ' Tobio <3 '  from his lock screen and read the message below. 'You free later tonight? I wanna take you somewhere, it won't take long I swear. ' The ginger smiled unconsciously wondering where his boyfriend is gonna take him now.

Few minutes had finally passed and the redhead immediately rushed outside the building only to see him waiting, leaning outside the building holding his car keys. When the tall man noticed his ginger boyfriend coming on his way, he quickly fixed his posture and smiled. Hinata greeted Kageyama with a kiss on the cheek, the latter then grabbed his lover's small hand and kissed it, locking his ocean eyes onto the hazel ones. "Let's go?" Hinata nodded and he felt the tall man pulling his hand excitedly, heading towards the parking lot that's right infront of the school building, Kageyama unlocked his car and then the couple went inside.

Hinata couldn't stop thinking about where his boyfriend was taking him, but he didn't bother asking and just decided to trust him. There's nothing else left to do inside the car so he only stared at his boyfriend who's driving peacefully, his vein-ny hands that's holding the steering wheel gently, his pointy nose, his ocean blue eyes that's focusing intently on the road, how is it possible to be able to have such a handsome boyfriend.

How long has it been already since they started going out? Two years? It already felt like forever. He remembered how they first met in college, both so lost in their freshmen years for not being able to find the auditorium for their orientation. The redhead reminisced on how the pair got up to this point, their first date, first kiss, their first time . He chuckled and blushed a little just by thinking about the last statement. "Is there something wrong with my face?" Kageyama asked innocently. Hinata blinked twice and then didn’t notice that he’s been staring at his boyfriend for too long.

"Nothing, just thinking about how lucky I am to have such a handsome boyfriend." The ginger replied and chuckled. The driver only let out a small laugh, his other hand trailed down on top of his lover's left thigh, showing that he wanted to hold the ginger’s hand and then the latter smiled, happily followed the tall man’s request and intertwined their fingers together. They held hands throughout the whole trip and the ginger didn't even notice that they're now parked by the cliffside, observing the view from the car. Buildings below the cliffside slowly lighting up and the sunset that’s slowly dying.

Kageyama immediately went outside his car and walked towards the passenger’s side, looing at his lover through the car window. Before the redhead was about to open the door, he saw his boyfriend waiting, holding the door open for him, smiling with those daring ocean eyes.

“Chivalry isn’t dead huh?” The ginger asked as he stepped outside the car.

The couple walked by the cliff side, Kageyama's arms wrapped around his lover's waist and the ginger's head leaning onto the taller one's shoulder.

While walking, Hinata shot a question to the raven-haired man. "What are we doing here by the way?" he asked. He doesn’t mind spending some time with his boyfriend on top of the cliffside, but he just couldn’t help but to wonder why they are here. Kageyama laughed when he saw the ginger’s look and just leaned onto the latter as they watched the orange light that’s slowly sinking.

"Keep looking at me like that and you might beat the sun for melting my heart." The taller man said, ignoring his lover's question. Hinata slightly blushed and didn’t bother to reply.

"Shouyou," The redhead turned his head in his boyfriend's direction who took a few steps backwards, only to see him holding a small velvet box. "Since we’re still in our sophomore year in college and still got a long way to go, I think it’s too early for me to propose to you.” The couple laughed and Kageyama decided to continue. “So I figured to claim you in another way.” There was a short pause, and then he took a deep breath and started his speech.

“Hinata Shouyou, I wanted to be more serious in our relationship, even though we already are, but I just wanted to level it up a little, forever claiming you with this ring, showing that I will wait for you until we both graduate and have a stable career, and then finally meeting you in the altar. I don’t mind how long it takes, as long as I have you by my side, loving you until my last breath . I promise to never ever leave you, I look forward to us finally living under the same roof and having a small, loving family, watching our kids grow up and be old gray with you.”

The raven haired man would be lying if he said that he's not nervous about this, he can feel his heart pounding from his chest ever since he was waiting for the ginger outside the university. As he was wording out his speech, he swiftly opened the small box and slipped it into Hinata's ring finger. The latter's face really has this expressive face, he doesn't know if he's gonna cry, laugh, or both, he's going crazy.

As the sun slowly disappeared, he was about to reply, but instead, the ginger felt the lips of his boyfriend over his, the kiss was gentle and then Hinata began to cry. Kageyama immediately broke the kiss when he felt the tears from his lover's cheeks. "What's wrong? Am I too fast? I'm so sorry I didn't let you talk, I-- uhm.."

"Stupid."

"What?!" The raven haired man's face was painted with fear and nervousness after hearing what his boyfriend just said.

"I'm just happy that I picked the right man to love, how are you so perfect? I can't wait to marry you already." The ginger smiled and didn't even bother to wipe his tears that's overflowing on his face. Kageyama acted on an impulse and then hugged the shorter man really tight, looking at the moon that's about to show up from the dark blue sky.

They sat down on the trunk of the car, admiring the quiet sky with stars lingering around, moon shining so bright. The ginger rested his head against his boyfriend’s shoulders, trying to fight against his own heavy eyelids, he wanted to stay like this forever. Under the night sky, watching the different colors of streetlights down the cliff.

The next thing he knew, he fell asleep on Kageyama’s shoulders peacefully.

The cold shoulder

It’s been a few days since Kageyama gave Hinata the promise ring, they have been clingy to each other ever since, more clingy than the days after when Hinata admitted that he felt the same way to the tall man two years ago.

They would either sleep on each other’s place depends on the circumstances, but the routine is still the same. The redhead would wake up to see his boyfriend holding him closely on the weekends and insisted to stay on the bed much longer. Kageyama is a different ‘morning’-person on the weekdays though, Hinata would get up, waltzed towards the kitchen as his eyes was greeted by the raven haired man’s bare back, wearing an apron and cooking their breakfast.

Inside the classroom, Hinata is waiting patiently for his professor to dismiss them. Staring at his watch intently.

“Class dismissed.”

He finally heard those beautiful magic words from his professor and walked outside the classroom. Before taking another step, he felt both arms hugging him on his waist and snuggled himself over the redhead’s neck.

While being the lovey-dovey couple that they are by the hall, Hinata lingered his eyes around and saw his blonde classmate in Mathematics, exiting the classroom, as if he’s on the edge or something. But the ginger didn’t let that bother him; he always had that look on his face anyways. He thought and just focused his attention to his boyfriend who’s inviting him to go for a lunch date.

Hinata wanted to stay forever with his sweet boyfriend, and couldn't imagine his life without him. Doubts that his Kageyama would dare to cheat behind his back, when would he ever?

Days later, the ginger noticed that Kageyama is getting a little… cold. The latter started to go home late, sometimes he would even call the ginger that he will stay at his own place for a while, and Hinata agreed. It may be weird, but it’s fine, he just got used to Kageyama’s presence after all this time, but the man has a life on its own anyway, can’t hurt to sleep by himself from time to time. But things started to go downhill after that.

He would receive less messages from him, when Hinata would ask him for a coffee date, he would decline, saying that he has something to do. It went like this for almost a week. The ginger waited outside his boyfriend’s classroom, only to receive news from his acquaintance. “Kageyama? I thought he told you that he’s not going to class today?” Tsukishima replied and went on his way to his next class.

Where in the world  is he?

It went on like this for days. Hinata could no longer help it, anxiety eating him up, thinking about everything that could’ve gone wrong. He grabbed his spare key to Kageyama’s place and headed over there. Parking his car outside his boyfriend’s house, he walked towards the front door, nervously knocking on it.

No answer.

Hinata decided to open the door slowly with his spare key. He opened the door, slowly scattered his eyes around the familiar place, only to be greeted with his boyfriend’s lying on his stomach weakly. “Tobio!”

Hinata dropped his things immediately, approaching Tobio who can barely stand up on his feet. “I- Shou... I can’t.. I- I can’t feel… my legs… I-It hurts..” The taller man whimpered, tears springing outside his eyes, rolling against his cheeks, helplessly clinging on his boyfriend. Hinata acted accordingly, walking him to his car and then drove towards the nearest hospital.

Finally parked the car in front of the hospital, he immediately carried his boyfriend inside, saw the nurses coming to his way and carried him onto the wheelchair, Kageyama who’s still in pain. A team of nurses rushed him to the room, Hinata was about to go with them but was stopped when he heard a voice, grabbing his attention momentarily. “Are you with sir Kageyama? A friend?” the man asked, who’s wearing a doctor’s coat and a stethoscope.

“Boyfriend, doc.” He answered. “Ah, you must be Hinata Shouyou? Your boyfriend talks a lot  about you. I’m Doctor Iwaizumi.” He introduced himself and shook his hands with the ginger.

“Alright, follow me sir. I need something to discuss with you.” The ginger turned his head to his boyfriend who’s on the hospital bed, being escorted by the nurses hurriedly. “Don’t worry, he’ll be fine, this way please.” Hinata trusted the doctor’s word and walked alongside with him, heading to the doctor’s office.

The pair sat down as Iwaiumi opened a topic regarding his patient’s stubbornness. “That man is really stubborn, I’ve told him many times that he should admit himself so we can run a few tests to see what he’s suffering from before something happens, but he just refused. Now that this happened to him, I’m hoping that you, as his boyfriend, can hopefully manage to convince him.” The doctor explained.

After discussing more things with the doctor inside the office, the redhead finally got the picture.

No wonder why Kageyama has been missing for days, no longer calling him periodically, distancing himself, lying that he needs to take care of something.

Kageyama is busy, always coming back and forth to the hospital almost everyday, yet he refuses to admit himself in the hospital, denying and keep telling his doctor that he’s perfectly fine.

Hinata was escorted by the nurse to the ward, He walked inside and then drew the curtain only to see his boyfriend who’s now sleeping peacefully. Kageyama soon opened his eyes and rose up when he heard a familiar angelic voice talking to the nurse. “Ah, you’re finally awake.” Kageyama’s ocean eyes turned to the direction of his boyfriend who seemed calm.

Kageyama gulped and refrain himself from looking at his boyfriend, only staring at his hands that’s resting on his lap. “Tobio, you know I’m not gonna let you roam around aimlessly after this incident, right?” The blueberry man didn’t answer. “I think you know where this conversation is going, right ?” he stayed quiet, thinking how the heck did he know about him resisting to stay inside the hospital.

“I’ve heard it from Doctor Iwaizumi” Hinata paused, sighed and continued

“Please… just let them help you.” Hinata is trying his hardest to convince Kageyama to stay in the hospital, to let the IV run through his veins 24/7, let the nurses do a skin test everyday, to sleep on the hospital bed. Kageyama felt the small hand holding him tightly, ginger’s thumb stroking the back of his hand comfortingly.

“This is for your own good, okay?”

Kageyama only nodded weakly, finally giving in.

Hinata kissed his boyfriend’s cheek and left the ward. The redhead talked to the nurse to finally move him inside a private room hours later. He also called Tobio’s sister to deliver the news on what’s happening to his brother. Miwa arrived shortly after the call, carrying a bag that seemed to be the clothes of both siblings.

Hinata told Miwa every detail when she arrived at the hospital, filling her in with every detail. They had a talk on who’s gonna stay and watch over the blueberry patient and Luckily, Miwa is only working during the night so they came to a conclusion that Miwa is gonna stay at the hospital during the day while Hinata is studying in the university, and vice versa.

Hinata left the hospital for a bit to start packing, he’s gonna stay inside the hospital for a while.

Hospital

It wasn’t easy for Hinata to watch over his boyfriend and focus on his academics at the same time. On the first night, watching over Kageyama, he finally decided that it’s time for him to rest as well after finishing his project. The ginger was peacefully sleeping until he was woken up by the patient’s call over and over again.

“Shouyou..? Shouyou? Shouyou?! Where are you?!!”

“I’m here Kags, what’s wrong?” Hinata got up from the small bed and then rushed towards the patient, holding his hand tightly, reminding that he’s right by his side. “Shouyou? It hurts! It hurts so bad! Make it stop! Please make it stop!” The raven haired cried, repeatedly screaming that ‘it hurts’

Hinata did his best to calm him down after he pressed the button to call for the nurse, letting them know that there’s an emergency going on inside the room. “I’m right here Tobio, okay?  It’s gonna be over soon.” Hinata cried. It’s painful for him to see his boyfriend suffering helplessly. Knowing that the only thing he could do? Is to hold him tightly, telling him that ‘ everything is gonna be alrigh t’ and stays by his side.

The ginger heard the door opened and was greeted by a team of nurses scattering around the patient. “Listen Tobio, you need to behave a little and calm down, okay? They’re gonna make the pain go away, alright?” Hinata kissed the forehead of his boyfriend and held his hand as tightly as ever.

--

It has always been like that, Kageyama would scream in the middle of the night, saying either “it hurts” or “I can’t feel anything.” His boyfriend’s sickness is still a mystery since the doctor is still running a few tests before coming to a conclusion and dropping off his diagnosis.

--

Inside the doctor’s office, Iwaizumi ran his fingers through his hair and grunted, glaring at the diagnosis results of his patient. It’s his first time encountering  something like this, it’s a rare disorder . He raised his head up when he heard the door open in front of him, he saw his fiance enter the office and greeted the doctor with a kiss.

“Hajime, you looked so stressed.” The brunette commented, fixing the hair of the stressed man. “Tooru, I don’t know what to do… This man had so many goals in his life-- the way he talked about his future with his boyfriend… his plans.. How am I supposed to tell him the results, knowing that it’s an incurable disorder ..” Iwaizumi hugged his fiance tightly.

Hinata’s Neglection

Few days later, Hinata finally got a hang of his new routine. He would sometimes stare at his boyfriend in the middle of the night, finding himself crying, remembering all those days where Kageyama would scream from the pain. What did he do to deserve this kind of treatment? He asked himself.

Trying to juggle his life in between his college life and from taking care of his boyfriend, he’s starting to eat less healthy. Only drinking iced coffee for breakfast, some biscuits for lunch, and a cup of noodles for dinner. Staying up late because he’s either studying for an exam, doing his project or taking care of his boyfriend, trying to calm him down every time he’s having a panic attack.

--

Inside the hospital room, Hinata sat down beside the hospital bed, head resting on the mattress by the patient’s hand, drawing circles on Kageyama’s knuckles while the latter is sleeping soundly, Hinata’s eyelids getting heavier by each passing minute, but he fought it back and stayed awake. He suddenly felt the hand of the raven-haired man intertwined his fingers. Hinata raised his head and saw Kageyama smiling so softly.

The patient rose up and kissed his boyfriend and then rested his forehead against the redhead’s. “You can get some rest you know? I’m not going anywhere.” Hinata shook his head. “I’m fine, I’ve already had enough sleep, you’re the one who should be resting Tobio.” The redhead replied. “Are you sure you’ve got enough sleep?” Kageyama asked, his tone showing that he does not believe him. Hinata nodded. “Liar.”

Hinata only stared at his boyfriend. “Shouyou, I’m not blind. Your eyebags are getting more and more darker each day.” Kageyama paused, looking right at the hazel eyes. Kageyama smiled and stole a kiss from his lover. The couple lied down on the hospital bed, Hinata’s head lying on top of his lover’s chest. He’s actually surprised that they both can fit on the hospital bed.

Kageyama played with Hinata’s ginger hair until he felt that his lover is now resting peacefully, he held the latter tightly, thinking about how lucky he is to have such a patient boyfriend. Kageyama stayed in the same position and just kissed the sleeping redhead..

Few hours later, Kageyama saw the sun setting, the same time he saw his boyfriend slowly opening his eyes, waking up from his light slumber, but he remained still on top of Kageyama’s chest. “Tobio?” The patient hummed in response, he found himself playing with the ginger’s hair once again. “Just remember that we’ll get through this together, okay? I’ll never leave your side, ever.”

Atsumu’s Initiative

Under the orange sky, the blonde is finally on his way home after a tiring day from college. The tall man grunted when he felt his phone vibrating non-stop, so he fished out his phone and saw his brother’s caller I.D. screaming ‘ Shithead twin’ on his phone screen. “What?” Atsumu picked up the call. “You’re now on your way home right? Grab something from the pharmacy for me, will ya?” Atsumu just groaned from his twin’s statement.

“Come on, I’ll cook you your favorite fatty tuna for dinner.”

“Ugh, fine! What do you need?!”

--

Atsumu entered the pharmacy with a poker face, he scanned his eyes around and then walked across the counter to get what his brother was asking for. While walking past the counter, he saw a familiar orange head standing in front of the cashier. Atsumu wondered why the redhead was buying so much medicine, but he didn’t mind it and continued doing his own business.

--

Few days later, Hinata still trying to balance his life, he started to notice that there’s this one particular blonde man in an undercut that starts showing up in his life every other day. He's not sure why and what’s the blonde’s motive, or was it Hinata just assuming some things?

As usual, Hinata started his day by giving a peck on the lips to his loved one, talking to Miwa some updates regarding Kageyama’s therapy, grabbing some iced coffee near his university and entered his first class, sitting down beside the blonde man who he doesn’t pay attention much and only seeing him merely as a classmate in Mathematics.

Inside the library, Hinata could barely lift his head up to study for his exam in a few days, forcing his eyelids to stay apart. After his body started to give in from sleepiness, he decided to take a nap for 30 minutes, fishing out his phone and set the alarm, Hinata is a light sleeper, so he set his alarm into vibration mode, making sure that the librarian won’t kick him out, he then shoved the books away, rested his head down and then took a nap.

When Hinata fell into his slumber, a tall man slowly walked up behind the sleeping ginger, he just sighed and then began to unzip his hoodie, covering the small body with it and laid down a note on top of Hinata’s phone. The tall man was startled when he heard the sudden vibration on the table, while he was retreating on his way as far away from the redhead as possible, his head was was greeted with a loud thud against the bookshelf, causing Hinata to turn around only to see the man walking away hurriedly.

Hinata couldn’t see properly when he turned around, only a blurr, silhouette of the man rushing away from the library. When he turned off his alarm, he noticed that he’s wearing someone else’s jacket. He was about to take it off, but he stopped when he noticed the note that’s lying on top of his phone. The ginger picked it up and read it.

‘ You can keep the hoodie to keep you warm inside this cold library. It’s yours now. :)”

Hinata wondered who on earth would he give his own hoodie to a stranger?

After studying for a few hours, he stood up and went to the librarian to ask who gave him the hoodie, but sadly, the librarian has no idea who was behind it. “But whoever it is, He or she must have cared deeply about you.” The librarian smiled and carried on with her work.

After a few days, he started to notice that his blonde seatmate is starting to warm up to him, knowing that he’s such a timid person who never speaks to anyone. “Here.” Hinata glanced at the direction of the blonde man with an undercut, who’s offering some onigiris. The redhead crunched up his eyebrows and gave the man a weird look to him. “It’s much healthier than those damned biscuits and iced coffee.” The blonde commented.

“My brother forced me to eat his cooking, and he’s gonna lock me out later tonight if I came back with that lunchbox that’s still filled up, and the problem is that: I’m still full.” He lied. Atsumu pestered his twin last night for the past three hours to cook for him, forcing the brunette to finally give in and then made some onigiris. Atsumu didn’t lie about the part where he’s still full, because he is.

Hinata couldn’t do anything about it and just accepted the offer when Atsumu added “It’s rude to reject an offer you know?”

“Thankyou.” Hinata replied as he grabbed a piece of onigiri from the blonde’s lunch box. While the pair ate the onigiris peacefully, Hinata wanted to ask so badly why Atsumu is suddenly being nice to him, a change of heart I guess? He thought

The pairing

Few days later, Atsumu is walking down the hall, trying to find a partner who’s also studying business, and he only knows one person that he’s kind of close to, hoping that the redhead hasn’t found anyone yet. What kind of project? Apparently, professor Ukai announced that Architecture students need to pair up with business students to form any type of business project and the architect student needs to design a building for the business men to work with.

When Atsumu hurriedly rushed towards the library where the redhead should be, he accidentally bumped into the small man when taking a hard left, causing the latter to fall on his butt. Atsumu immediately helped the man only to finally notice that he bumped into the familiar redhead. “I-I’m so sorry, uhm… let me help you.” Atsumu stuttered as he kneeled down to help the redhead to pick up his things, returning it inside his bag.

“Nah, it’s fine, I was in the way.” Hinata chuckled. While Atsumu was helping the ginger, he picked up a medical receipt, reading it for a moment and damn, so many medicines. He thought. The paper immediately disappeared from his hand as Hinata hurriedly grabbed it and shoved it inside his bag. “U-uhm, anyways, thankyou for helping me! You seemed to be in a rush, so.. I’ll be going now.” Hinata stood up and walked away, but before Hinata could take another step, Atsumu stopped him “Actually, I was trying to find you.” Hinata blinked a few times and then fixed his posture, looking up to the taller man. “What do you need me for?” he asked.

“I think you’ve heard that sir Ukai and sir Takeda agreed to pair up their architecture and business students to do this odd project.”

“Ah.. right, that.” Hinata scratched the back of his head, Atsumu gulped, hoping that he hadn't found a partner yet. “I was about to ask someone else but I think he probably found a partner already.” He replied. “Let’s pair up? I haven’t found a partner yet.” Hinata smiled and accepted the offer. “Sure!” After the conversation, the ginger left immediately, heading to his next class.

New Friend

The pair started their project immediately, meeting up a few times to do their work either in the library or in the cafe outside the school, where Hinata always gets his iced coffee in the morning. Atsumu is still wondering what’s up with so many medicines in the receipt. He even saw Hinata making his way inside the hospital so many times . Atsumu has no idea why he is so pressed up upon Hinata’s life but he knows one thing that he cared for him deeply

Inside the quiet cafe, the pair is working on their project quietly, both wearing headphones while facing their laptops. Hinata stopped from what he’s doing and then faced his new friend, resting his chin on his hand and shooting a question to his partner. “Do you have anything to do later after this?”

“Hmm, I don’t think so. Why?” The blonde asked, and the redhead just smiled at him.

“I want you to meet someone.” Hinata replied.

When the sun started setting, they cleaned up their things and left the cafe. Both walking as Atsumu was greeted with a familiar building where he saw the redhead entering the other day. “Iwaizumi Hospital?” the tall man asked, but the ginger only glanced at him and smiled sweetly. As they made their way upstairs, they finally stopped in front of the small door that’s written ‘109’ on it.

“Tobio, I’m back.” The pair entered, only to see a raven haired man lying on the hospital bed. Hinata gave the patient a peck and then turned to the blonde. “Atsumu, meet my boyfriend , Tobio, and Tobio, meet my new friend from one of my classes, Atsumu.” They both smiled at each other.

After weeks of questioning himself, he finally got the answer. On why the ginger was buying so many medicines the other day, why there were so many medical names on the receipt. It’s because the ginger boyfriend of the ginger is suffering.

Hinata’s Dedication (2)

Hinata expected his friend and his lover to be close… but not… this close . When he was fixing his things inside the hospital room, it was quiet. But by the time he turned around, the two tall men were now having fun chatting with each other. Hinata is so glad that Kageyama made a new friend despite his awkward personality when it comes to meeting strangers.

--

Hinata didn’t notice that 2 months had already passed by. He’s still trying to adjust with his new lifestyle, taking care of the patient, balancing his academics ( and his health thanks to Atsumu who keeps bringing healthy lunches for Hinata.)

Kageyama just stared at his hard working boyfriend late at night, facing the laptop with his tired eyes, eyebags that are so heavy and dark, the ginger who’s trying so hard to battle with his eyelids that’s getting heavy already for the past hour. Hinata turned his gaze to him, so he got up immediately by instinct, realizing that his boyfriend woke up in the middle of  the night. “What’s wrong? Do you need anything? Water?” the ginger asked as he sat down on the hospital bed to hold the patient’s hand.

Kageyama just smiled and then kissed the back of Hinata’s hand. “Nothing. You should get some rest too.” He replied. “Don’t worry about me, I’m doing just fine.” The ginger replied and yawned. “You should go home tomorrow and recharge yourself Hinata, it’s been 2 months since the last time you slept in your own home.” The patient scolded. “You have no excuse to stay here just because it’s ‘ near the university.’ Shouyou, today’s friday.” he added.

Hinata was about to retort and say that he wanted to stay by his side and no one's gonna take care of him but he was cut off by his lover. “Nee-chan is gonna stay here for the whole week, meaning, you can recharge for the whole 7 days only focusing on your studies and resting up. I’ll be fine, don’t worry.” He assured his ginger lover.

“Okay, okay, fine. But if something happens, just call me, alright?” Hinata finally agreed.

The next thing the ginger knew, he woke up on the hospital bed, his head resting on top of his boyfriend and felt his warm hands hugging him. Hinata carefully lifts his body up, making sure that he won’t disturb the sleeping beauty. He started to get ready, packing some of his clothes and sanitaries and then waited inside the hospital room.

While jotting down some notes regarding his project to pass some time, he heard Kageyama waking up from his sleep.

“Good morning Shouyou… why are you still here?”

“There’s no way I’m gonna leave you here all alone and without saying a proper goodbye to you.” he replied. Hinata stood up from his seat and kissed his boyfriend, sitting down on the hospital bed yet again and played with Kageyama’s long fingers. A few minutes later, they heard the door knocked and saw the older Kageyama entering the room. “I guess that’s your queue to go, huh? Rest up Shouyou.”

“I’ll see you next week, Tobio.” Kageyama cupped his cheeks and kissed him. Watching as Shouyou leaves the room with his bag full of clothes and sanitaries.

When Hinata finally arrived at his home, he dropped off his things and immediately ran to his bedroom, feeling warm as he curled himself into a ball, covering his body with his comforter that he missed so much for two months. Making himself comfortable with the familiar bed that he also missed so dearly, he fell asleep in an instant.

After a few hours, Hinata opened his eyes feeling refreshed. He slept like a baby. The ginger stood up and started his chores, cleaning up his  house, doing his laundry, unpacking his things, and took a shower. When the redhead is finally done, he settles inside his bedroom eating his homemade dinner.

The next day, he made plans with his blonde partner to crash at the ginger’s place to do their project, at first, they planned to do it at Atsumu but his twin didn’t agree to it because apparently, Osamu’s boyfriend named Suna is staying over for the day.

The project

Atsumu turned off the revving engine and then reached out his laptop bag, two boxes of pizzas and then a fair amount of beer inside the plastic bag. He got out, locked his car and then walked towards Hinata’s door step holding their snacks for the night while doing their project. Atsumu rang the doorbell and then waited.

Meanwhile inside, the redhead almost tripped, heading towards the doorbell after he fixed their supposed workplace. He opened the door and saw his partner, his laptop bag that’s hanging by his shoulder, holding a plastic bag filled with beers and then two boxes of pizzas.

Hinata grabbed boxes of pizzas, invited Atsumu inside and headed towards the living room to work on their pr o ject. The blonde settled down his laptop bag by the coffee table behind the other laptop that was already unfolded.

After they finally settled inside, they immediately started working on their project. Hinata brought out a pack of coupon bond paper and started writing some drafts on the white blank paper with Atsumu, planning who’s gonna handle the task and how they’re gonna write it. “Okay but why the coupon bond? What are we gonna do with them when we’re still miles ahead from finishing this project?” Atsumu asked.

“I don’t know about you, but for me, drafting some notes on a piece of paper before typing it helps me get the picture much better, graphing some lines where I’m gonna put the topic, body, introductory, and others.” the ginger answered, only receiving a weird look from his partner.

“Yeah… I don’t know about that… but, you do you I guess.” the blonde replied as he unfolded his laptop and started it. After finally coming up with a conclusion on who’s gonna handle what, they started working. The redhead drafting some notes down on the white blank paper and then typing after, the blonde who’s intently focusing on graphing the table in his laptop.

Empty can of beers scattered around the coffee table, two opened pizza boxes with the other one empty, a pair of stressed men who've been working intently in front of their laptops while wearing their headphones. When Atsumu took a minute to stretch his back, he saw his partner who’s more stressed than the blonde. Atsumu switched his phone to see what time is it and saw ‘12:07 AM’ lying on his lockscreen.

Looking at their progress that they made, and saw that it’s still early . Atsumu came up with a plan.

Unwinding (BGM - Taxi Cab by Vampire Weekend)

“Hey, wanna go unwind for a bit?” The blonde invited, and before the redhead could answer, he already found himself sitting inside Atsumu’s car, leaning by the window side and observed each street lights that they passed by.

When he thought that this was gonna be one of those quiet road trips, he’s dead wrong. He actually found himself bonding with the blonde driver, the redhead was actually surprised that they have the same taste when he started to play his playlist inside the car and found the blonde singing along.

So in short, the two really enjoyed the whole ride, not noticing that they have finally arrived at the destined location where Atsumu planned to take the redhead to finally unwind after the heavy project that they did.

They both headed outside the car and Hinata felt the cool breeze brushing his face and smelled a familiar scent, ocean, and then he realized something, they’re at the beach. Hinata wouldn’t dare to complain to where the blonde took him because he actually missed the beach, the way his feet would press against the soft ground, the cool soft breeze dancing around, the smell of the ocean. It’s the type of place where he exactly wanted to unwind.

Hinata turned around and saw the tall man holding two beers with a smug on his face, offering some to the ginger and he accepted it. They strolled around the beach, just admiring the sea at midnight and admiring the way the moon perfectly kisses the quiet ocean. The pair soon stopped strolling around and sat down on the soft sand, opening the can of beer and took a sip on it.

“So, how have you been lately?” Atsumu asked. “I’ve been better, I’m actually glad that I can get a little bit of rest from the hospital, able to recharge and all that.” Hinata answered. Atsumu looked at the latter who’s busy admiring the moon, the blonde observed the latter’s face, his really pretty hazel eyes, the dark eyebags that he gained from his college life and from taking care of his boyfriend.

His pointy nose, clear skin that’s ethereal, kissing the moonlight, and his lips that seemed so soft, making the blonde want to kiss it-- wait, He has a boyfriend, Atsumu . He thought, scolding himself inside his mind. Atsumu slapped himself mentally and cleared his throat, taking a sip from the can and stayed quiet.

“I didn’t think this would happen..” Hinata blurted out, the blonde took a glance from the one who spoke, not saying a word, letting the redhead finish his sentence, “We just made a promise to never leave each other, and then suddenly hit us with this... disaster..” he stopped talking and then found himself holding onto their promise ring. Atsumu looked at the ginger, taking a sip from the beer, returning his gaze into the ocean and then started talking.

“Well, ‘ everything happens for a reason ’ they said, whatever the purpose of the fate may be, all you have to do is to stay strong and then fight with him, you can’t just let it slide by giving up on it so suddenly, right?” the blonde started talking, trying to lift the redhead’s spirits up.

“That’s what we’ve been trying to do for months, but after hearing the doctor’s diagnosis… Tobio’s fighting spirit plummeted.” tears are starting to fall against his face, recalling the doctor’s statement from that day. Atsumu stayed quiet once again, letting Hinata bring out his bottled up feelings.

“Friedreich’s Ataxia… damn.” the ginger cursed as he chugged on the beer, leaving the can empty and then laid it down onto the sand beside him. “An incurable disease that’s only been passed down to each generation, luckily his sister didn’t get that disease… but… Tobio… he--” Hinata paused, and couldn’t bring himself to talk anymore, so he continued to sob, bawling his eyes out and curling himself up.

Atsumu didn’t think twice, he stood up and positioned himself in front of the redhead who’s curled up onto his knees, Atsumu kneeled down and then suddenly hugged Hinata who’s been sobbing, he couldn’t take it when the ginger is in pain, if only there’s a way to make him happy forever, such as preventing Kageyama to leave from this world for Hinata, he would. But he’s no magician to make Kageyama’s sickness go away in a snap.

“If that’s the case, then, start to spend time with him more before he leaves this world, make the most of it. I’m so sorry that this happened to both of you Sho-chan, no one deserves that kind of treatment, specially Kageyama, he’s still young to have such a thing. But like I said from earlier, stay strong, don’t give up on him so easily, okay?” Atsumu doesn’t know if his words are effective enough to make the ginger calm down, since he’s not the type of person who’s good at comforting someone with such sweet words.

But he felt relieved when the ginger’s sobbing started to pipe down, Hinata slowly fixed his position, resting his legs onto the ground and then hugged back the tall man, burying his head on the blonde’s chest, he felt so warm, the redhead thought. The next thing he knew, his eyelids were starting to become heavy and didn’t notice that he actually fell asleep on Atsumu’s chest.

Sitting down on the white sand not moving a muscle, Atsumu is still holding the smaller man who hasn’t spoken a word for a while after crying. When the blonde though it’s time to head back, he was about to let go of Hinata’s body until he felt the small man’s steady breathing on his chest and saw his eyes closed, sleeping peacefully. He couldn’t bring himself to wake the redhead up since he can see that he’s pretty tired so he just carried him inside the car.

Atsumu thought about carrying the small man in bridal style, but considering their position at the moment, he carried him like a baby instead, the ginger’s head resting against the blonde’s neck, his arms wrapped around the tall man’s shoulders, and legs clinging onto his waist. When Atsumu reached his car, he was struggling on how to lay Hinata on the backseat, so he just gave up and then laid him down on the shotgun seat instead. Adjusting and lowering the body of the seat so that the ginger can sleep on it comfortably.

After minutes of struggling trying to lay down the redhead, making sure that Hinata is comfortable enough in his current sleeping position, Atsumu went ahead towards the driver’s seat, started the engine and went back to Hinata’s place. He took a glance at the redhead for a bit while driving and thought ‘damn you’re such a heavy sleeper.’

While driving, the blonde was debating in his mind if he’s either gonna wake the ginger up once they reached the redhead’s place or just let him sleep all the way. Finally arriving at the destined place, Atsumu came up with only a conclusion since it’s gonna haunt him forever if he dared to wake up the tired, sleeping ginger.

He turned off his engine, opening his car and then walked over to the passenger’s side to open the other door, slowly picking up Hinata in bridal style, heading towards the front door and opened it with Hinata’s house keys that the blonde was holding, dropping him off inside the redhead’s bedroom gently and then tucked him in. Before he headed outside, he gazed into Hinata’s face shortly and saw him sleeping peacefully, the next thing Atsumu knew is that his body acted on an impulse.

He took a few steps forward, slowly leaned onto the sleeping redhead, moved the orange fringe resting on top of Hinata’s forehead a little bit and then kissed it gently. “Sleep tight.” Atsumu whispered and then he turned onto his heel, he laid Hinata’s house keys on the bedside table and then left the house, making sure that the front door was locked and then he drove home.

The talk

Lately, Kageyama has been noticing some things from the blonde, the way Atsumu looks at his boyfriend, his actions towards him. Hearing the stories from the ginger how Atsumu would take care of him inside the university by bringing him food everyday, the way he’s scolding Hinata inside the hospital room for not taking care of himself. He knows it may be a friendly gesture with clear intentions for the blonde, but as for the patient, he sees it differently.

--

Inside the hospital room, it was… quiet. Hinata went out to buy some medicine down the pharmacy and asked Atsumu to look after his boyfriend for a minute while he’s gone, and now that  the patient finally woke up, it suddenly became awkward for some reason. Atsumu was about to open up and have a small chat with Kageyama but he was cut off immediately when the latter suddenly spoke without any hesitation,

“You like Shouyou, am I correct?” Atsumu was caught off guard by the raven haired man’s sudden statement  not even bothering to at least filter his words.

A long pause.

“You don’t have to answer that, even though if you deny it, I can see it in your eyes that you have feelings for my boyfriend...  I don’t mind it though.” The blonde’s jaw dropped instantly after hearing what the patient just said, trying to process the last five words that his friend spatted.

“K-Kageyama, where are you going with this?” Atsumu stuttered. Kageyama just sighed and smiled. “I just want to tell you that please take care of him once I’m gone, please?”

“Even if I have small feelings for Shouyou, you can’t just give up! Do you even know what you’re saying right now?! Are you sure that you just want to let go of him?! Don’t you wanna fight your sickness alongside with him until the end?! Love him until your last breath?!” Atsumu pants after scolding his friend, trying to contain his anger, hoping that he could change the mind of the younger man, but he only heard him scoffed.

“Atsumu... I’m dying here, I literally only have a few months, heck or even a few days left to live.”

Another pause.

“Once I let go of him, take care of him for me, please? That’s all I ask.” Kageyama’s face may be expressionless but his dark ocean eyes say a lot. It pains him to think that he’ll let go of Hinata some day, but there’s no way Kageyama would leave his loved one with only half a heart, taking the other half with him.

Atsumu just sighed in defeat, it’s his friend’s dying wish after all, what else can he do? “I’ll try.”

“Don’t try, promise me that you'll take good care of him, don’t do anything that could possibly make him cry or else I’m gonna come to your house and haunt you at night.” Kageyama threatened, Atsumu nodded “I won’t, you can count on me.”

“Thankyou.” the patient replied.

The talk (2)

As Kageyama watched his sister left him inside the room to work, he just stared at the window, waiting for his boyfriend to arrive. Finally after an hour, he heard the door clicking and saw the ginger enter the room. “I’m back, Tobio.” He greeted, he gave the patient a peck on the lips and laid down his things by the small table. “Shouyou?” the ginger hummed in response as he’s fishing out his new clothes from the bag.

“I wanted to see the garden of the hospital downstairs, would you mind if you take me there later?” Kageyama asked. “No problem! Just let me change for a second, okay?” He asked, grabbing his new set of clothes and went inside the bathroom.

After a few minutes, Hinata called a nurse into the room and asked their permission if the patient is allowed to go out, they approved, but the condition is that, even though the patient can still walk around with ease, they urged to make Kageyama use the wheelchair if he’s gonna go outside the hospital room, knowing his disorder, numbness of arms or legs might come around at the most random times.

The couple agreed with it and left the room, Kageyama sitting on his wheelchair and Hinata pushing him forward. After walking around the garden, they eventually stopped by the bench and Hinata sat down, observing the birds chirping, and butterflies flying around, and the plants dancing from the wind.

“Shouyou.”

“What is it?” Kageyama took a deep breath and decided to let out what he wanted to say for the past few days.

“Promise me, that... once I’m on my deathbed, please… please don’t cry for me. Instead, be happy that I can finally get to rest from this hell of a world.” Hinata’s face is now sculpted into sadness and frustration after hearing what his boyfriend just said.

“Why are you saying this?” the redhead questioned with a mixture of anger in his tone. He doesn’t like it when they talk about this type of stuff. Kageyama reached out for Hinata’s hand, ignoring the latter’s question.

“Please, bury this ring along with me, as a sign that you’ll finally move on from me and our past, and I’ll forever carry it with me until the end.” He ran his thumb onto the promise ring that he gave to the ginger, holding the redhead’s hand tightly.

Hinata’s tears started to roll against his cheeks.

“Tobio.. I.. please, I don’t like it when we talk about this but..” Hinata sobbed and then looked at his boyfriend’s ocean eyes. “ Yeah, I’ll follow your dying wish for sure… you can count on me.”

Hinata wanted to avoid this kind of topic but he can’t deny that his lover will die anytime soon, so all he has to do is to follow Kageyama’s desire once he’s gone from this world.

Friedreich Ataxia is a rare genetic disease that causes difficulty walking, a loss of sensation in the arms and legs. It’s also known as spinocerebellar degeneration. The disease causes damage to parts of your brain and spinal cord and can also affect your heart.

Last Date

Hinata left Atsumu at the cafe after receiving a call from his boyfriend, telling him to go to the destined location on where they were going to meet. While driving up on the mountain he’s wondering on why, how, and what the heck is Kageyama doing up there, he sped up under the orange sky after forming a question inside his mind. Hinata slowly pulled over the familiar cliffside and he saw his boyfriend waiting for him, wearing a suit.

Remembering the symptoms that could show up in the most random times, he’s glad that Kageyama can still walk either way. He shut down the engine and rushed outside his car, hugging his boyfriend who had been waiting for him.

“Missed me that much? We just saw each other a few hours ago.” The raven-haired man patted his boyfriend and felt the ginger nodded on his chest. Kageyama pulled away from the hug, smiled at the redhead, grabbed his right arm and led them inside the forest.

“W-wait, where are we going?” Hinata asked hesitantly. “Don’t worry, you’ll see it when you get there.” Kageyama answered. Hinata can see the lights starting to show up as they continue walking through the pathway under  the trees.

The couple finally stopped walking and then they were greeted with a stone-made gazebo with some built in stone chairs and a table for exactly two people, Hinata explored the place with his eyes and saw their comfort foods lying on top of the stone table, a candlelight, rose petals scattered around, and some fairy lights hanging all over the gazebo. It’s beautiful

“I.. I don't know what to say... Tobio I-- how did you even..” Hinata’s words got lost along the way, words can’t express how he’s feeling right now and just hugged his boyfriend, thanking him for such an effort. “Well, I couldn’t do it all by myself, ...so I asked some help from my sister and her friends for this. I gotta admit, it’s pretty tiring. I’m actually glad that neechan and her friends are willing to help.”

Kageyama grabbed Hinata’s hand and then lead him towards the stone table that’s covered in white cloth. They reminisce about the past together, remembered how they met in such a ridiculous way, their study dates every time their exams are starting to creep up behind them, back to the days where they would cuddle in an empty hours.

“How did you even find this place? It’s.. so beautiful.” Hinata commented as his boyfriend chuckled and just sipped on his drink before answering. “Well… before the day I brought you here by the cliffside, I… uhm, explored a little bit, and then I found this place. I actually planned to seal our promise here, but I decided to save it for a better moment.”

Kageyama grabbed his phone, chose a perfect tune, just an instrumental violin that’s so relaxing and then stood up, went towards where Hinata is sitting. “May I have this dance?” Hinata smiled as he grabbed his hand.

Hinata placed both his hands on the shoulder of his boyfriend as the latter did the same, only placing them on the redhead’s waist, holding him close, letting Hinata’s head fall against his chest as Kageyama rested his chin on top of the small man’s head. Oh how he wished he could get a hold of him like this forever .. But this date isn’t just to spend time with his boyfriend.

Damnit Kageyama, all things must come to an end. This is why you set up this date. It’s for his own good.

“Shouyou?” The redhead looked up as they slowed down, it pains Kageyama just to see him crying after he dies, imagining Hinata being miserable once he’s gone, and knowing his little boyfriend, he won’t be able to move on in an instant once Kageyama left and taking half a heart of Hinata with him in the after life.

“...Just remember that I’ll always love you no matter what, our memories wasn’t just for nothing, I enjoyed them too. So I hope you understand why I’m doing this.” He said as he cupped the smaller man’s cheek

Hinata’s heartbeat rapids, he’s now scared of what his boyfriend is gonna say next..

“I’m sorry that I couldn’t fulfill my promise back at the cliff months ago. When I said that I’m still gonna propose to you after we graduate, that we will have three kids living in a simple house, a girl and then two boys guarding our princess.” His voice trailed off, trying not to cry as he still needed to finish his speech before letting go.

Hinata’s tears began to roll down his cheeks endlessly, denying inside his mind that none of this is real, that Kageyama is just playing a prank on him, but he couldn’t lie to himself as he saw those dark ocean eyes in pain.

“But, our plans were just ruined in the blink of an eye because of this damned fate.” Kageyama didn’t notice that his vision is now blurry from the tears coming from his eyes. “After hearing that I have this cursed incurable disease of mine, I knew that I couldn’t just leave you behind, taking a piece of you without someone else trying to fit in that hole that I’m gonna leave you with once I’m gone.” Kageyama sniffed and then continued.

“T-that’s why I brought you here... I wanted to do something with this place… before it’s too late. So.. I decided to hold our last date here.” He finally finished. Kageyama let go of his boyfriend for a moment and then slowly slipped off the promise ring from himself.

“Hinata Shouyou, I revoke the promise that I made exactly 3 months ago, for I who’s not worthy and not able to fulfill it. You deserve a much better man who’s going to take care of you, and spoil you with love, much more than how I spoiled you for the past 2 years.”

Kageyama slowly lifted Hinata’s hand and also slipped away the promise ring that he gave to him months ago. The redhead is still crying, endlessly hitting his ex boyfriend’s chest lightly. Hinata looked him in the eye, hoping that the tall man would suddenly add in his final sentence ‘that this is just a prank’ or ‘I’m joking’ . He was about to open his mouth, to say don’t go. But Kageyama just shushed him, laying his index finger onto Hinata’s lips, looked at him in the eye, and then held his hand tightly,  “Just follow the path on your way back and you’ll be back at the cliffside.”

Kageyama’s hand was slowly drifting away from his grasp, finally letting him go.

Before Hinata knew it, he saw Kageyama leaving, grabbing his phone from the stone gazebo that’s still playing, and then left the redhead alone. The raven haired man, countlessly telling himself inside his mind: don’t turn around, don’t turn around, don’t you dare turn around Tobio, it will only make things harder. He thought as he’s wiping away the tears endlessly rolling across his cheeks.

He met up with his sister who’s been waiting by the cliffside, leaning in front of her car. Miwa offered a hug to his little brother, and Tobio just accepted it, still crying from the heartache that he brought upon himself. Miwa knew her little brother’s plan and his purpose on why he did that, why is he giving up so easily, she just respected his decision and just helped him.

In a blink of an eye, Hinata was left alone by the gazebo, still sobbing just from what happened. They were just dancing around by the grass earlier, eating their comfort foods that Kageyama prepared by the table, reminiscing the days when they were together.

He unconsciously held his ring finger, realizing that the promise ring that he would always hold on to, is also gone.

After crying and wailing inside the forest that was poorly lit by the fairy lights decorated around the place, he finally left. Following the instructions that his ex boyfriend told him earlier before the raven haired man left, the redhead followed the path that he noticed earlier. His eyes now greeted with the moonlight that fits perfectly by the cliffside.

Hinata just stood there for a moment, remembering that they just made their promise right here three months ago. Hinata wiped his tears that were shed and then went towards the direction of his car, started the engine and left.

So this is really it huh?

Goodbye, Kageyama Tobio.

The next day, inside the room of the redhead, he was dumbfounded on top of his bed, staring at the ceiling, not minding his tired eyes from crying non-stop earlier, still thinking why on earth would Kageyama give up on their relationship. His mind started travelling through endless questions, anxiety creeping up behind him, holding his phone, he didn’t even notice that his fingers moved by instinct, calling the familiar ID lying on his contact list that he knows he can only open up with.

Dialing.. Atsumu..

“Hey, what’s up?”

“Come pick me up please? Take me anywhere other than this damned house…”

Atsumu didn’t hesitate and just followed his friend’s request. “Alright, I’ll see you in a bit.”

The blonde immediately hung up when he heard how tired his friend was. He grabbed his car keys and rushed to his car, starting the engine and then headed towards the ginger’s place. A few minutes later, Hinata heard the doorbell rang so he got up unwillingly from his bed, opening the door.

Atsumu was greeted with a redhead man, who’s hazel eyes are droopy from crying. “Let’s go.” Hinata dismissed Atsumu who was about to question and just headed to the blonde’s car.

The road trip was quiet, Atsumu isn’t used to the quiet version of his friend, but he didn’t let the awkward atmosphere get to him. He offered to make a stop by to the convenience store, and the ginger’s reply? “Just do what you want.” and then didn’t answer after that, leaving the driver in a shock.

They stopped by the store and then Atsumu grabbed a few cans of beers and some snacks, while the redhead decided to stay inside the car. Atsumu was about to insist earlier to come with him but when he read the ginger’s face, he didn’t press on it and just gave him some space inside the car.

While driving, Hinata observed the streetlights mindlessly and gazed at the sun that’s setting, a sky that’s almost the same shade as his hair, and some different hues of blue and purple lurking around. He checked the time on his phone, it’s already 5:30 PM.

--

“We’re here.” The blonde stated, turning off the engine and got out of his car, grabbing their snacks and beers that’s inside the plastic bag at the backseat and signalling the Hinata to get out of the car as well when he was about to enter the place.

Hinata stared at some sort of abandoned building or kind of like a mansion and a built in tower connected by the right side of the stone mansion, looking like Rapunzel’s tower from the movie but with a huge stone balcony with a broken cutted off railings, vines curling against the stone wall.

He hesitantly got out of the car seat and slowly followed the blonde. Opening the mansion door, his eyes was greeted with a high ceiling, few fallen stone debris on the floor, vines circulating around, and a wide stairs that’s lying in the middle of the mansion, puddles that was brought by the previous rain, shattered window by the stairs with a faint light beaming through, and the blonde, holding the plastic bag, waiting for Hinata by the stairs.

“Come on, follow me, you’re gonna love it, I promise.” Atsumu smiled, reaching for the ginger’s hand and headed to the second floor and took a turn to the right, only to be greeted by a single door that’s made of wood. The blonde opened the door and saw his friend’s face painted in horror, seeing the stairs connected to the walls and circling around to the top.

“Be careful, it’s kinda slippery.” Atsumu warned and he felt Hinata’s hand tighten the hold with the tall man’s hand, carefully climbing up, Hinata realized that they’re inside the tower. Finally reaching the final step of the tower inside, they stopped and waited for Atsumu to open the door.

The taller man felt something warm inside him when he saw how precious the redhead’s reaction was after seeing the view. Who wouldn’t love it? Sunset in a perfect shade that made it pleasing to the eyes, with a shade of dark blue sky leaning against the orange sky, stars that are starting to flicker, and the moon showing up on the other side, waiting for the sun to set.

The blonde walked over to the wide balcony and settled down their snacks and faced the redhead who’s still left in an awe by the door. “Welcome to my safe place, Shouyou-kun.” the blonde greeted with a smile as the ginger walked towards him slowly, carefully looking at the broken railings of the balcony, brushing his hands against it, feeling the vines bumping by his fingers as he settled down beside Atsumu, who’s now sitting by the edge of the balcony with the cutted off railings beside him, legs hanging in the air.

“This is so beautiful.” Hinata commented as he accepted the beer that was offered by the blonde and took a sip from it.

Secret’s out

“Why?” Atsumu turned towards the broken hearted man in confusion, questioning by what does he mean “why?”

“Why are you so nice to me, Atsumu?” The blonde took a deep breath for a moment and didn’t  bother to face the ginger. “I don’t know if I should answer that Shouyou, now is not the time.” his tongue slipped, he could’ve avoided the question by saying ‘Is that even a question? Aren’t you supposed to be nice to everyone? ’ Atsumu just cursed at himself.

“Now is the perfect time!” Atsumu just rolled his eyes because of his friend’s persistency.

“Do you even know what you’re saying right now?” The blonde asked. “So? What’s wrong with it? I just want to know why you were so nice to me?” the ginger questioned back.

“Why do you even have to ask?!”

“Just please tell me.” Hinata pouted, and then paused for a moment, he then gasped after thinking that “Could it be that, you’re plotting something against me?!”

“You’ve got to be kidding me! Of course not!” The blonde denied.

“Then what is it?” The ginger asked.

“ ‘m not gonna tell ya.” He answered as his Hyogo accent started to show up for a brief moment.

Atsumu sighed and took a sip from his beer.

“The thing is.. I.. have… feelings for you” he mumbled, leaving the redhead’s face in confusion because he couldn’t get what the blonde just said. “Sorry? I didn’t quite catch that? What do you mean filns furya ?”

The taller man scoffed as he chugged on the beer, and then straight up looked into the other’s hazel eyes intently. “I.. have feelings for you, Shouyou.” after he let out those six words from his mouth, the redhead’s face was slowly painted in shock, and horror, he couldn’t believe what he just heard, causing the blonde to blush furiously and looked away from the redhead momentarily, calming himself down from blushing and then returned his gaze to the beautiful sky. Atsumu chugged on his beer as he continued.

“I’m not expecting you to return these feelings, hell I’m not even supposed to tell you how I feel especially when you just broke up from the love of your life!” He added, only staring at the colorful sky.

“Atsumu.. I-”

“You don’t have to apologize to Shouyou, I gave in to your persistence, it’s my choice to finally reveal my feelings for you… in such… a... wrong time…” he cut off the ginger who was about to say something. Letting out a heavy sigh and just reaching out to the plastic full of snacks, opening one and offering some to Hinata, trying to ease up the atmosphere.

“So, what now?” Hinata asked, opening a new can of beer and taking a sip. “What do you mean?” the blonde asked. “You know Atsumu, I really liked you as a friend… but after revealing your little secret to me, I don’t know what to feel exactly.” The redhead chuckled.

“Give me time to heal from this broken heart first okay? Unless you have a plan to court me or something, planning to make me feel loved again.” The blonde didn’t answer, because he actually planned to court this man after he finally moved on from his ex.

Health

On their way home, Atsumu noticed that the redhead is a bit more down than usual, physically. Dropping him off, he took a glance in Hinata’s direction, saw how pale he was. He touched Hinata’s forehead to confirm his theory, He’s hot, and not because Atsumu is horny or anything, it’s because Hinata is literally hot.

“A-Atsumu?”

“Since when?

“What?”

“You’re sick.”

“N-no, I’m not.” he denied as Hinata removed Atsumu’s hand from his forehead, opening the door behind him when he suddenly felt Atsumu pulled him close, really close . The blonde leaned and then rested his forehead against his, staring at the other’s tired hazel eyes, to see if the redhead is really sick.

“You are.” The blonde’s action left the ginger stunned, heart skipping each beat as if it’s going to pop out from his chest. “Come on, I’ll walk you to the doorstep.” Atsumu opened his door, approaching the passenger side to open the door for the latter who’s still inside.

“Can you walk?” The blonde asked, offering a hand to the small man who’s making his way out.

“I’m not a kid Atsumu, I can walk on my own.” He got up from his seat, shoving away the blonde’s hand that was about to hold the body of the weak ginger, only causing himself to trip over onto the taller man’s chest, he was luckily caught by the latter and fixed his position to be able to stand up on his own feet.

“Doesn’t seem like it. Come on, let me help you.” Atsumu grabbed the arm of the ginger and wrapped it around his shoulder. When the pair got inside Hinata's place, he walked him towards the bedroom and laid him on the bed.

“Do you have any medicine lying around in your place?” Hinata covered himself with his comforter and then weakly shook his head. Atsumu laid the back of his hand onto the ginger’s forehead, he’s getting much hotter than before. “Wait here, okay?” The redhead nodded, curling himself inside the comforter like a fetus and then heard the taller man leave the bedroom.

Atsumu got back with a damp towel and a warm bowl of water. He nudged the ginger to fix his position for a minute, helping him to lie on his back and placed the damp towel on his forehead and told Hinata to rest and that he’ll be back once again.

Leaving the weak redhead inside to rest, Atsumu fished out his phone to dial his twin, it took only three rings until his brother answered the call.  “I’m not gonna bail you out again this time you asshole.” The blonde scoffed, remembering the incident one time, when he got drunk, he couldn’t remember what happened that night and found himself dialing his twin asking for a bail from the police station.

“I need your cooking skills to help me.” The blonde ignored his twin’s statement, pinching the bridge of his nose and let out a sigh. “What? Atsumu, where the hell are you?” The gray haired man asked, rising up from the bed and ran his fingers through his hair.

“I’m at a friend’s house. Listen, can you please just help me? He’s sick and he doesn’t have any medicine lying around, I have no idea what to prepare for him, let alone, don’t even know how to cook!” Atsumu panicked, resting his lower back onto the kitchen counter, he just heard his brother laughing maniacally.

“Okay, okay, what does your friend have inside his fridge?” Osamu asked. Atsumu opened the fridge and ventured his eyes inside. “Some fish, chicken, onions, carrots, mushrooms, garlic, celery, beans, potatoes--”

“Alright, alright, I think I know what you should cook.” His twin cutted him off. “What?” the blonde asked.

--

While cooking some soup for the redhead, phone in between the shoulder and the blonde’s head, he listened to his brother’s instructions carefully. “Ah, by the way, I just remembered that I slipped in some medicine in your bag in case you got sick, your friend might need it.” The twin from the other line added as he continued to coach his brother on what to do next.

Inside the sick man’s bedroom, shivering uncontrollably from the cold, beads of sweat forming all over his body, whimpering from the chills, feeling that his eyes are burning. He buried himself more into the thick comforter, shoving it up above his shoulders. He heard a gentle knock on the door and saw the blonde enter the room with a bowl of soup, a cup of water and some pills laying on the tray.

Atsumu laid down the tray by the bedside to remove the towel on the ginger’s forehead, still hot. “Shouyou, I brought you some food, you need to eat first before resting okay? I also got you some medicine.” Atsumu guided the sick ginger to lean on the headboard, still covering himself with the comforter up to his shoulders.

The blonde grabbed the chicken soup from the bedside table, gave it a few blows to the spoon, making sure that the soup is not that hot enough to hurt a tongue once eaten, and fed the redhead. After spoon feeding the younger man, Atsumu gave him the medicine and a cup of water. The tall man is now at ease after seeing Hinata who’s getting slightly better after drinking the medicine.

Atsumu laid his hand on the back of the ginger and felt his shirt that’s now damp from sweat. He stood up and headed towards the closet, grabbing a shirt and went back to Hinata, who’s now again laying down. “I’m not gonna let you sleep with that damp shirt Shouyou, change up first, okay?”

He said as he tried removing the resisting covers that Hinata is holding onto. “I’m fine, I don’t have to change, alright?” The redhead resisted. “Nope, you have to change your shirt Shouyou, whether you like it or not. Now get out of that damn comforter and just change for a sec! Damn, you’re so stubborn for a sick man!” Atsumu pulled the sheets away from the resisting ginger and gave him the dry shirt that he’s holding.

“You’re gonna change or Do I have to change you myself?”

“You wouldn’t.”

“I would, if you make me.”

“Okay! Okay! Fine! I’ll change!” Hinata pulled the hem of his shirt carelessly and threw it at Atsumu. “Satisfied?” The redhead asked. “Very.” The blonde answered.

Atsumu planned to sleep on the couch downstairs after taking care of the redhead but when he was about to leave the room, he felt a pull from his shirt, saw the sick man’s pleading eyes who’s still shivering from the cold. “I- I can’t sleep.. It’s.. too cold..” The ginger pleaded. “Want me to bring another comforter? Where do you keep th--”

“Just sleep next to me, please?” Hinata whimpered, inside Atsumu’s mind, there was chaos, different imaginations running inside. Atsumu mentally slapped himself, let out a sigh. “Alright, scoot over.” The redhead slowly moved to the side and felt the blonde’s chest pressed against his back, arms wrapped around his body, finally felt warm.

“Is this better?” The blonde bluntly asked, the ginger just weakly nodded and gazed at the window, he watched the moon perfectly shining in the dark sky. Hinata suddenly remembered out of the blue that his first love… broke up with him. Hinata shed a tear and felt something heavy inside his chest. He decided to brush it off, turning his body to Atsumu and then curled against the blonde.

Sick day

“Shouyou-kun? Shouyou? Shou-chan?” The ginger slowly fluttered his eyes and heard his friend waking him up. “Goodmorning.” Atsumu chuckled as the redhead heard him lay down the tray by the bedside table. Hinata opened his eyes and saw Atsumu in a new set of clothes, and his blonde hair that’s still wet. “Ah, I hope you don’t mind me using your shower earlier.” Atsumu scratched the back of his head.

Hinata only stared at him, wondering where he got those new sets of clothes. If only he knew, Atsumu rose up 4 hours early to go home, grabbing a few clothes and his laptop bag, and also to pester his twin to teach him how to cook before Hinata woke up from his deep slumber when he got back.

After so many attempts back  at the twin’s condo earlier, trying to nail the taste of the  warm rice porridge, making sure that the egg yolk won’t break, trying not to burn the bacon, not too crunchy, not too chewy. He finally got it after a few attempts. Osamu is thankful that his brother is a fast learner as he looked at the burnt foods at the sink from his first few attempts.

Atsumu chuckled remembering his brother’s expression, he gave himself a pat on the back as he reached out the ric porridge from the tray. Hinata is speechless, he saw two eggs sitting perfectly on top of the porridge, and a few bacon that’s forming a smile, reminds him of the disney movie from Mulan when Mushoo cooked breakfast for the lady warrior.

The blonde picked up the spoon to feed the ginger, Hinata is still a bit feverish but he knows at the back of  his mind that he can now feed himself, but he just let Atsumu spoon feed him and wanted to enjoy the luxury for a while. After finishing the bowl of rice porridge, Atsumu reached out the glass of water along with the medicine and Hinata accepted it, drinking the pills and laid it down after to rest more.

“I’ll just be down stairs finishing our project, just rest up, okay?” Atsumu ruffled  the hair of the ginger and then rested the back of his hand on Hinata’s forehead, checking the temperature of his body because apparently, Hinata doesn’t have a thermometer lying around in his house.

Atsumu started to work on their project downstairs while his partner is still resting back at his room. Few hours later, the blonde heard footsteps coming from the stairs and saw a mop of orange hair coming down, holding his laptop, a few notebooks and pencil, he’s in a new set of clothes, his hair is still wet and seems like he just got out from the shower.

“Feet better now?” The blonde asked.

“Yeah, thankyou for taking care of me, Atsumu.” Hinata went to Atsumu’s direction and laid down his things on the coffee table. “Let’s finish this once and for all, shall we?” Hinata stretched his body, opening his laptop and then they started finishing their project together.

Finishing Touches

Doing their project together inside the quiet room, Atsumu couldn’t help but to steal a look from the quiet ginger who was working, writing down some notes and then typing them after. He may have looked fine on the outside but when Atsumu looked into the other’s hazel eyes, he saw how sad he looked. ‘ Oh right, they broke up yesterday.’ he thought to himself. Atsumu jolted when the ginger suddenly spoke.

“If stealing glances from your partner from time to time is a crime, you might already end up in jail, Atsumu.” he laughed, the blonde just returned his gaze to the laptop and replied. “I was just looking at that painting behind you.” Hinata scoffed and rolled his eyes, ‘ he’s a terrible liar .’ he thought. “Yeah right.” The redhead replied with a teasing tone as if he didn’t believe the blonde, because he didn't.

As the sun went down, Hinata pressed save on his laptop and rested his back by the foot of the couch behind him. “Finally done! We just only need to print these and then pass it to sir Ukai on monday.” Atsumu also did his finishing touches on his part and then saved it as well, stretching his body after a long day. He just observed how the sun is kissing the ginger. It was quiet… too quiet, until Hinata broke the silence that’s lingering around the room.

“I’m.. not gonna visit him anymore just like how I used to.” he paused. “Maybe once in a few weeks? I also need to go back there to get the things that I left back at the hospital.” The ginger added, as he watched the sun slowly sinking onto the ground.

Atsumu looked at Hinata, letting the latter continue, hearing his plans out. “It may not be easy, moving on, going back to my ‘normal’ life before I met him, fully focusing on my college and then graduating.” Hinata didn’t notice that his tears are now springing against his cheeks. “Ah... why am I crying… damn it.” He tried to hold back his tears, wiping them away with the back of his hand.

“I’m… gonna go and get some water.” The ginger stood up and walked inside the kitchen, he just wanted to be alone for a moment.

New life

Hinata started to move on forward with his life. Focusing on college, hanging out with Atsumu a lot , they would visit his ex from time to time, just like what he said to his blonde friend last time, ‘ Maybe once in a few weeks.’ Every Time he visits his ex along with Atsumu, Kageyama would push him away if he stayed there for too long, they talked it out about their breakup and the pair ended it in good terms, so they’re now back to being friends.

He didn’t even notice how many months had already passed by after that. Three? Four months? Hinata even started to take a liking to his blond friend, for being by his side 24/7, he also liked his sense of humour. Sometimes, the ginger would catch himself staring at the blonde while having a friendly-study-date inside the library.

Hinata wanted to keep it a secret at first, until one day...

While the sun was still up on a Saturday afternoon, the pair decided to crash at Hinata’s place for the meantime. The redhead sitting on the couch and the blonde man lying on the ginger’s lap, playing with his phone. Totally something NOT a couple would do.

“I might consider it.” The redhead spat, causing his partner to look at him with a confusion written all over his face. “Consider what?” the latter asked. Hinata just smiled, he settled down the book he was reading and looked at Atsumu in the eye. “I might consider accepting your feelings.” Atsumu immediately stood up, looking so pale after what he just heard.

“Shouyou… you mean that… you…” his voice was trailed off after seeing the ginger nodded happily. “Holy shit..” Hinata frowned after he heard his crush cursed. “Ah, sorry. I just didn’t expect that you would actually…” his voice trailed off once again. Atsumu slapped himself mentally and then fixed his posture, holding Hinata’s hand. “I promise, I’m gonna treat you right, I’m not gonna leave by your side, I’d be glad to show off how much I love you, from this day forward, will you allow me to court you? Hinata Shouyou?”

“Ofcourse, Miya Atsumu.”

Courtship

In the middle of the day, Hinata would sometimes receive free food and drinks from his blonde suitor. His favourite iced coffee in the morning, some healthy lunch made by his brother for lunch everyday, some desserts whenever they go to a study date in the library or in the cafe.

As the sun is going down, the pair are both busy studying inside the library for their exams. While the redhead was busy reading, he felt something brushing up on his forehead. “Ease up a little, you might get wrinkles because of it.” Atsumu chuckled as he continued brushing the ginger’s forehead with his thumb, cupping his cheeks after and kissed his forehead.

“Hmm?  What’s with that look Sho-chan?” The blonde asked in a teasing tone, observing the face of the small man who now has the same shade of his ginger hair. “N-nothing! Just focus on your studies Atsumu!” Hinata stuttered as he shoved away the hands of his crush from his face, regaining his posture and continued studying, his action just made the blonde laugh and continued studying as well.

“Let’s have a date after the finals?” Atsumu asked as he dropped  off Hinata in front of his house. “I’d love that.” The redhead replied, his eyes were trailed off for a moment and then leaned onto the blonde, giving him a peck on the cheeks as fast as possible. “Well, goodnight.” Hinata immediately left the car after he spat out those last words, leaving Atsumu dumbfounded inside the car.

As far as he knows, he restricted himself from kissing the ginger’s lips without consent, and Hinata never made the first move before. When Atsumu finally restored his conscience, he noticed that his cheeks and ears were fuming red from Hinata's action earlier. He slapped himself mentally and just drove home.

After their finals, Atsumu picked up Hinata from his place the next day, driving towards the amusement park. When they got inside the amusement park, Atsumu wanted to throw up after being greeted with such a  high rollercoaster ride, seeing the ride in motion made Atsumu really sick, making his face looking pale.

“Atsumu! Let’s ride that one first before the line gets any longer!” Hinata exclaimed, grabbing the hand of his blonde suitor, pointing at the giant roller coaster. Atsumu tried to contain his manly posture, his Adam's apple moving after gulping in fear. “Ah..yeah… let’s g-go!” The blonde stuttered. “Are you okay?” The ginger asked with a concerned look painted on his face. “Y-yeah! I’m fu-ine! Let’s go! You want to ride in that so bad yeah?!” Atsumu asked as he’s now the one pulling the ginger, nervously walking towards the entrance.

Atsumu didn’t know what happened next and found himself sitting on the rollercoaster, holding the ginger’s hand tightly, maintaining his posture even though his face is really really pale, the thought of him falling down in such height, thinking that this will be the death of him. His hand formed into a fist on his lap when he felt the ride going up. Looking at his right side, Hinata is smiling, excitedly waiting for the ride to drop. “Isn’t this fun Atsumu?!” He laughed, and Atsumu didn’t get to answer the ginger’s question when the ride dropped, causing him to scream in fear.

--

The redhead is now accompanying his suitor who’s puking by the trash bin right after the ride. “Atsumu, you know you could’ve told me that you can’t handle such a ride.” He said as he ran his fingers on the back of his suitor who’s still puking. After Atsumu finally let that out of his system, Hinata offered a bottle of water that he bought earlier, the blonde accepted the water, opening the tap and then forced a smile after drinking from the bottle. “I’m fine.” He answered. “Besides, I just want you to have fun after going through the hell week.” he added.

“You know, there’s so many things here to enjoy other than roller coasters.” Hinata answered as he held his suitor’s weak hand, his body is still suffering from the after taste of the rollercoaster ride, pulling him to the side full of carnival games

Atsumu regained his honor after showing off his skills in carnival games, winning huge stuff toys in his first few tries as a gift for the redhead. The pair rested by the bay of the amusement park, eating ice cream, observing the quiet water that reminded the redhead on that one particular night when Atsumu invited him to unwind. Hinata rested his head on the shoulder of the blonde, observing the sun that’s about to go down in a few minutes.

“Can you handle the ferris wheel?” The ginger asked as he took a bite of his ice cream. “Of Course! Don’t think so lowly of me Shouyou, I only fear those kinds of things.” Atsumu answered as he pointed at the rollercoaster that they rode earlier, hearing screams from the people riding the coaster, watching it fall down.

Later on, the pair lined up for the ferris wheel ride, stepping inside after the long wait and heard the door closed behind them. The ferris wheel is quite tall so they have plenty of time until they reach the top. The pair observed the town slowly lighting up because the sun will disappear in any moment. Atsumu looked at the ginger and saw his face that’s in awe. He just chuckled and then returned his gaze to the town.

Hinata laid his elbows down on the railings, his palm supporting his chin that’s resting on it. The redhead has actually confirmed himself that he too, has already fallen in love, he just couldn’t find the right time to tell the blonde about his feelings. The redhead was caught off-guard when he finally noticed that the wheel stopped, they’re finally at the top.

“Atsumu?”

“Hmm?”

“I love you too.”

And there, Atsumu’s heart stopped. He slowly looked at the ginger, returned his gaze at the view, and then turned his head again at the redhead. The latter was about to ask if he’s alright but was trailed off by Atsumu’s sudden gay panick, “WHAT?!” Hinata covered his one ear when Atsumu screamed for a short moment. The latter suddenly started mumbling endlessly, asking so many questions to himself.

“Atsu--” and yet he was cut off by the blonde who’s still mumbling to himself. So Hinata had an idea, the redhead blushed at the thought and just did it, shutting him up with the kiss, Atsumu was caught off-guard but he then closed his eyes and kissed him back. And there the ginger heard the fireworks popping above them, Ah, right. The weekend firework show at 6:00 PM. He recalled

The message

BGM - Lover

Hinata rose up from his soft bed and turned off his alarm that’s been screaming for the past minute. He scratched the back of his head, trying to remember what happened. Oh right. After they broke the kiss, they exited the amusement park, decided to call it a day and went home. When they finally arrived at the ginger’s place, Hinata invited Atsumu to stay with him for the night after a tiring day from the amusement park, and the blonde happily agreed.

Nothing happened after that.

No one made out.

No one had sex.

They just cuddled through the night.

Hinata was about to jump out from the bed but he stopped when he felt an arm wrapped around his waist. The redhead then attempted to lift the arm from him but he was pulled immediately back to bed under the comforter and felt the blonde’s head nuzzled on his neck. “Stay with me for a while, please?” he asked in a deep sleepy voice, making Hinata want to stay in the bed longer, but he can’t. “Atsumu, I need to cook.”

“You don’t have to... I’m not hungry yet...” Atsumu pulled his boyfriend closer into his chest, hugging him tightly. Hinata let out a sigh, giving in and hugged the tall man back. “Fine, just for five minutes okay?” He felt Atsumu nodded against his neck.

After their cuddling session, Hinata left Atsumu upstairs who’s still sleeping. He turned on his speaker, played a song from his phone, grabbing some ingredients from his fridge, and started cooking.

Hinata felt someone hugging him from the back, resting his chin on his shoulders. As the redhead continued what he was doing. No one talked, they’re just listening to the music that was played on his speaker. After Hinata chopped the ingredients for their soup, he put them into the deep saucepan and then turned on the stove, letting his soup bring to a boil. Atsumu started to sway with the small man along with the song.

Atsumu faced the ginger’s body towards him, grabbing his waist as Hinata laid his hands on top of the blonde’s shoulders, slowly swaying to the song. Atsumu just smiled, thinking that what did he do to deserve such a beautiful lover. Hinata didn’t notice that the couple were dancing around the kitchen, Atsumu twirling him around from time to time. Hinata felt like he’s back in his highschool prom, because Atsumu suddenly lowered both their bodies, his large hands holding Hinata’s small back and his other hand on the back of his head making sure that the ginger won’t fall. Locking his eyes onto the latter, Atsumu couldn’t help it and actually managed to steal a kiss from Hinata. Pulling him up, they rested their foreheads to each other, no words, just actions. The way that the couple look at each other says it all. It’s just full of love.

Hinata went back to the counter to check what he’s cooking, opening the lid of the sauce pan and tasted the soup. When the soup is almost done, he started to cook for other dishes as well. Some sunny side up eggs, and fried rice, of course Atsumu lend a hand, cooking some adorable octodogs, yes, octodogs. Because that’s all he knows how to cook that was taught by his brother the other day.

The pair finally sat down with their meals on the table and started eating. Atsumu stole a glance from Hinata, but the latter caught him and just smiled. While they both are busy washing the dishes, Hinata gathered the bubble foam onto his palm. “Atsumu.” he called and when the blonde looked at the ginger, the next thing he knew was that there’s a bubble laying ontop of his face.

“Two can play that game, love.” Atsumu smirked. He picked up the foam from his face and smeared it against Hinata’s head, they didn’t bother to finish washing the dishes and then played with the bubbles instead, chasing each other inside the kitchen smearing bubble foams at each other.

“Dodged ya!”

“Come back here!”

“No way!”

After running in circles chasing each other, Hinata finally ran out of breath. Atsumu insisted on making him rest by the counter while he finished washing the rest of the dishes that were left on the sink. Hinata removed his apron, setting it aside and sat down on the stool, picking up his phone and started scrolling through his social media. The ginger glanced at his boyfriend and observed him washing the dishes. What a view. Hinata scrolled out from his social media and decided to take a picture of him wearing an apron.

Few weeks later, Atsumu is finally done packing his stuff back at his condo, why? Because the couple agreed to live under the same roof, moving onto Hinata’s place. “Finally got everything ya need?” his twin asked, leaning his back onto the door frame, watching his blonde twin packing his stuff inside the huge luggage. “Pretty much.” he replied as he zipped up the luggage. “Seems like you’re gonna have to get used to living alone huh?”

“Not for long though.” the gray-haired twin answered. “What do you mean?” the blonde asked

“You’re not the only one moving in with your boyfriend.” Osamu answered timidly, as Atsumu finally got the picture. His boyfriend named Suna Rintarou is gonna move in with the gray-haired twin . Osamu walked his twin downstairs, helping him load the car with his things and then watched as Atsumu drove away from Osamu’s sight.

When Atsumu finally arrived in front of the familiar house, he saw his lover waiting down the porch and immediately ran towards the car, hugging the blonde who just got off. “Didn’t we just see each other yesterday morning?” Atsumu asked as Hinata just hugged the tall man tighter. “It felt like forever.” He answered.

--

“I’m tired!” The ginger complained as he laid down the box that Atsumu brought with him. “How many times do I have to tell you that you don’t have to help me Sho-chan! I can handle this.” Atsumu replied, joining the ginger who just plopped on the bed. “I just wanna help!” Hinata whined against the pillow. Atsumu just laughed and ruffled the ginger’s hair. Their conversation got interrupted when they heard Hinata’s phone ringing.

“Hello?” the ginger picked up the call.

“Hinata…” the woman sobbed, causing the redhead’s heart to skip due to nervousness. What could be the other reason why Kageyama’s older sister is calling him while sobbing? “Tobio… he…”

“Miwa-san, just breathe.” Hinata tried to calm her down through the call. “Tobio hasn’t woken up for two days.” The older Kageyama spouted, causing the phone from the other line slid from the ginger’s grip.

Farewell.

The couple immediately rushed to the hospital after hearing the news from Tobio’s sister. Hinata rushed inside the hospital as soon as his boyfriend parked the car, he almost bumped into a few nurses, on his way towards the room of his ex boyfriend.

He may now be his friend but that doesn’t change the fact that he cared deeply for him. When he finally arrived in Tobio’s room, he saw his body resting peacefully on the hospital bed.

The heart monitor is still kicking, that’s a relief.

Hinata saw Miwa who’s really worried, sitting beside the bed of his little brother. She stood up and let the redhead sit down.

He sat down and held his ex’s hand tightly. “Hey, don’t you dare leave yet.. Come on, wake up please..” he whispered and shed a tear. The older Kageyama told the ginger that she’s going to buy some water for a moment. She thought that it’s best for her to leave for a few and give the redhead some alone time.

Hinata continued to sob, and continued to talk to the pale body, knowing that the raven haired man is not going to answer. “Please, it’s way too early..” his voice trailed off, and let his tears roll down, until he felt a hand grazed over his face, wiping his tears away.

He suddenly stopped crying and slowly raised his head, only to see the man smiling weakly with those daring ocean eyes as he cupped the redhead’s cheeks. “I’m not leaving yet you dumbass, not until I get to see your face.” he chuckled.

“Oh God Tobio! You scared the heck out of us!” he exclaimed and hugged Kageyama tightly, the taller man returned the hug and he felt his own heart beating so fast. Yes, he’s still in love with this man, even though the ginger’s heart already belongs to someone else.

“How have you been Shouyou? Where’s Atsumu?” he asked as he let go of the hug. “We’re fine, Atsumu’s down at the parking lot, he’ll arrive soon. But man, you really made me worried, I actually ran all the way to this room you jerk!”

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry.” the patient chuckled as he ruffled the hair of the redhead, making the latter pout. They suddenly heard the door click, only to see the blonde entering the room, sculpted with a frown on his face but was immediately replaced with a smile after seeing his friend finally wake up from his long slumber.

“Well, well, well, looks like our patient finally woke up, you really gave all of us a scare.” Atsumu commented. “Anyways, it seems like you two were busy so I’ll just sit here and carry on.” he added as he sat down on the chair by the corner.

Hinata and Kageyama carried on talking and then they saw Tobio’s sister enter the room, she had the same reaction as Atsumu but only more emotional. She hugged her little brother and hit him jokingly for making her cry when he’s in a really deep slumber, thinking that he won’t wake up again.

“Don’t worry nee-chan, I’m not gonna leave you without getting to say goodbye properly, okay?.”

Miwa smiled as she ruffled Tobio’s hair and started to fix their things inside the hospital room.

The ginger and the patient had a laugh once again after Hinata reminded Kageyama on how he almost humiliated himself inside the classroom one time just by trying to impress the smaller man that time.

“Hey Tobio, let’s walk down the beach after this, alright? Man, I really missed those days when you would throw the sand against me for teasing you!” Hinata commented, making Kageyama chuckled for a bit, until he fell silent. Trying to fight his eyelids from falling asleep, he’s getting weaker . Kageyama slid his hands onto Hinata’s, looking at him intently, forcing a smile and tightened the grip on the ginger’s hand.

“I’m sorry, I think I won’t be able to walk with you by the beach ever again...” What Kageyma just said caused the redhead’s eyes to be suddenly painted with fear and nervousness, heart beating wildly inside his chest, feeling that it might explode any second now.

“Hinata.” The raven haired man called, still holding the ginger’s hand, eyelids trying to battle, how much his ocean eyes wanted to rest so bad, but he still needed to say this to his loved one before leaving.

“Remember what I said to you months ago?” Kageyama smiled, he grabbed something from the bedside drawer, it’s a small velvet box, giving it to the ginger.

“No, Tobio! Please! Don’t! You.. can’t..” The ginger’s voice nervously cracking, holding his hand tightly as he felt the velvet box that’s now laid on top of his other hand, remembering the promise that he made to the patient months ago downstairs.

‘Please, bury this ring along with me, as a sign that you’ll finally move on from me and our past, and I’ll forever carry it with me until the end.’

“Hey, you blondie. Take care of him for me okay?” Atsumu only smiled painfully and nodded.

“Tobio, please, don’t… leave me again…” Hinata whimpered, both of his hands are holding Kageyama’s hand tightly, looking him in the eyes, pleading to not go. Kageyama faced his love of his life, remembered how they would bicker endlessly over small things, being such a dork to each other, how he would feel a small man snuggle on his back in the kitchen while cooking.

“I told you not to cry when I’m on my deathbed, you dumbass.” The patient cupped the ginger’s cheek, tears starting to pool up against his ocean eyes, “Come on, you’re making this harder for me, at least smile.” he wiped away the tears of the redhead and chuckled painfully when the latter forced a smile on his lips, tears are still falling from his eyes. “I’ve always loved you.” The patient added, hands trailed down to hold Hinata’s hand.

“I sure hope I’ll meet you again in another life, so we can rewrite our ending that’s supposed to be happy, Shouyou.”

And there it goes , finally satisfied that he got to say those words, he may now rest in peace. He looked at his sister whose eyes were in pain, remembered that she promised not to cry as he already told her his last words before leaving a few days ago. He smiled as he felt his tears roll against his cheeks.

He smiled, looking at the white ceiling, slowly closed his eyes and never opened them again.

“Tobio? Tobio? Come on, please! You’re only kidding right? Tobio? Wake up damn it! Open your eyes, come on! You won’t leave us right?”

The ginger’s heart stopped momentarily as heard the sound of the heart monitor releasing a monotonous tone. Hinata’s heart racing, he continuously shook his ex-lover’s body, calling out his name endlessly, he didn’t care about his tears racing against his cheeks as he continued to call out his name.

“Tobio?! Come on! Let go of me Atsumu! He’s only sleeping right?! This can’t be true! Tobio! Wake up! You can’t leave yet!”

The next thing he knew is that he felt his body being pulled away by his blonde boyfriend and saw a team of nurses entering the room holding a new equipment that he never saw before, and there he also saw doctor Iwaizumi rushing inside.

Hinata tried to let go from his boyfriend’s grip, reaching out to his friend’s lifeless body lying down on the hospital bed, and there he saw the door closed against them. He turned around to Atsumu, crying against his chest and hugged him, he’s still holding onto the velvet box that Kageyama gave him earlier.

“He’s only resting right? He’s gonna make it right? He still has a lot to do! He has so many goals in his life, why does this have to happen to him? He’s still young…”

Atsumu cried, seeing his friend passed away just now, he couldn’t even imagine how much pain his boyfriend is going through, he could only hold him tightly as of now, reminding him that he’ll never leave his side.

The couple held hands while waiting in front of the Emergency Room, Hinata finally calmed down after crying in front of the room earlier, he didn’t know what to think, he’s going crazy. He looked at Miwa sitting across them, she has been quiet lately and hasn’t spoken for a while.

The three of them immediately stood up when they heard Doctor Iwaizumi exited from the E.R. Miwa approached the tan man, her hands nervously shaking as she held him on his shoulders. “Is he okay?! Please tell me, is he okay?!” she screamed. Hinata headed towards the nervous woman, trying to calm her down, signaled to let go of the doctor and letting him speak. But his reaction changed in a split second after hearing Iwaizumi answer.

“I’m sorry, there’s nothing we could do to save him, we did everything we could, my condolences ma’am, your brother fought so well, I’m sorry.” The doctor gave Miwa a comforting shoulder pat, with a pained expression in his eyes.

“Tobio..” the woman who’s still on her feet, she faced the E.R. door and didn’t bother to wipe away her tears, she just cried silently, she only smiled up at the ceiling, thinking that he’s brother can now finally rest in peace. But Hinata didn’t take the news well, he was stunned, he felt those words piercing through his heart. He faced Atsumu and the blonde hugged him immediately, he’s also crying, they all are.

Hinata wailed against Atsumu’s chest, still hugging him. “Tsumu.. Tobio… he’s gone… I- I don’t..” his voice cracked and got lost in his own cries, whimpering.

How can you leave us like this Tobio?

Fulfilling the promise

Ever since Kageyama left the world, the ginger hasn’t been himself lately, grieving over a lost friend. Sometimes in the middle of the night, Atsumu would wake up because of Hinata’s sobbing, missing Kageyama who just left. Even though Kageyama is just ‘Hinata’s ex’ the ginger really cared about the tall man. He can’t just invalidate those memories that the pair made for the past two years.

“N-no… Please.. Don’t go.. No!”

“Shouyou! Wake up! You’re dreaming again!” Atsumu held his boyfriend tightly, trying to wake him up. When Hinata’s eyelids split apart, showing his hazel eyes, tears are starting roll in his cheeks, now hugging Atsumu tightly. “Atsumu… He…”

“Shh.. it’s okay Shouyou..” Atsumu cooed, brushing his fingers onto Hinata’s ginger locks, his other hand rubbing the small man’s back. It’s his only way showing him that he won’t ever leave his side, not now nor ever.

If Hinata is nowhere to be found in the university nor inside their home, Atsumu would find him sitting down by Kageyama’s grave. Atsumu didn’t meddle with Hinata and couldn’t do anything because his lover is grieving at the moment and the only thing the blonde could do is just be patient and stay by his side.

Move On

A month later, under the dark sky, moon shining so bright in his bedroom, there he saw his blonde lover’s face sleeping peacefully, moonlight that’s kissing Atsumu’s face giving such an ethereal look. Hinata just smiled. “I’m glad you’re still here even though I’ve been stubborn for the last few weeks.” He murmured as he touched his boyfriend’s cheeks. Atsumu’s eyes started to flutter, opening it slowly as he carefully held Hinata’s hand and smiled.

“I’m a patient man if I say so myself, also, I have no reason nor right to be mad at you. Shouyou, you’re grieving because you just lost someone dear to you, your first love, your friend, basically a piece of you..” Atsumu’s hand trailed down to Hinata’s cheeks and then kissed the nose of the latter. “I’m impressed with how you handle the situation, I’m proud of you Shouyou.” Hinata just chuckled at what the blonde just said, hearing Atsumu say ‘ you just lost someone dear to you. ’ and not being bitter about it. He’s glad that he picked the right man for himself. He’s now ready to let go of the man who left him and move on. Hinata smiled back and hugged Atsumu, burying his head onto his chest and closed his eyes. “I love you so much Atsumu.”

“I love you more Shouyou.” He replied and played with Hinata’s hair, causing the latter to fall asleep in a flash. Atsumu chuckled and felt proud of himself because he knew exactly how to make his boyfriend sleep.

Future

Few years later, Hinata graduated and is now a successful businessman running a cafe, and as for Atsumu, he graduated in Architecture and throughout their college life, there they met a beautiful pair named Bokuto and Akaashi who are now married. Hinata was even more thrilled when he got invited for their anniversary party that’s going to be held tomorrow night.

When Hinata arrived at his place late at night, he noticed that his lover is still not home yet, so he just carried on doing his nightly routine, until he received a call from Akaashi. “Yes? What can I do for you Akaashi-san?” The ginger asked. “Uhm… Hinata? Would you mind if you come over to the hotel for a moment? It’s an emergency…”

“Huh? What happened?” The ginger asked. “The sign fell down and I also need you to help me arrange the stage as I fix the sign.” the older answered. “Oh! I’ll be right there in a few Akaashi-san!” Hinata quickly fixed his things and then grabbed  his car keys on his way out. Locking the door, starting the car engine and drove off to the hotel

Hinata arrived at the hotel as promised and then ran inside towards the venue. The ginger fished out his phone to inform that he finally arrived. “Thankyou HInata, just head inside and you’ll see me by the stage, I’m sorry if it’s too dim for your liking, the staff limited the usage of lights until tomorrow.” Akaashi replied.

The ginger walked down the hallway until he finally saw the familiar room. He opened the tall doors and his eyes were greeted with only darkness and a few dim lights on each corner of the big room, a tall projector screen showing nothing, and a faint light by the stage. “Akaashi-san? Where are you?” The redhead called inside the room as he walked in, but no one responded. When he finally made it inside, walking over the center of the room, he heard the door shut in an instant, causing his small body to jerk off because of the sudden noise.

The proposal.

When Hinata was about to walk up to the stage, he was caught off guard when he saw a familiar blonde man in the giant projector screen. “Alright, checking if it’s recording… and there!” Familiar voice, checking if the camera is rolling, the ginger continued to watch what's showing on the projector screen. “Hey, Love. Sorry for making you come all this way at this time.” Hinata just laughed as the blonde scratched the back of his head.

“Anyways, I just want you to know how thankful I am to be your boyfriend for the past six years. Do you remember the day when you gave me your answer at the amusement park inside the Ferris wheel? I felt like I’m the happiest man alive, If only you knew how much I wanted to scream on the top of my lungs saying ‘This man right here, is the love of my life… but ended up panicking ’” The blonde laughed nervously.

“Waking up next to you in the morning, seeing your face sleeping peacefully, dancing with you in the kitchen while you were cooking, you’re like a trophy for me that I never wanna let you go, all those memories we did in the past, I wanted to make some more with you, growing old with you and start a loving family.” The blonde paused and stared at the camera lense. “I’ll see you there Shouyou, don’t you dare cry by the time I ask you my first question okay? I love you.” Atsumu stood up from his seat and ended the recording.

The redhead found himself smiling sheepishly after he watched the video that was shown just now. Hinata was dumbfounded and felt his heart racing when he saw his blonde boyfriend under the spotlight standing on the stage, looking formal, wearing a suit. Atsumu walked over to the small ginger who’s now slowly tearing up. Hinata was about to utter a word but Atsumu stopped him by laying a finger on his lips. “The video says it all.” the blonde chuckled and then held the ginger’s hand tightly. “No matter what your answer is, I’ll aceept it and that’s not gonna stop me from loving you everyday, I’ll wait for you endlessly until you’re finally ready.”

“Shouyou.” The blonde called, Hinata couldn’t move his body when he saw Atsumu kneeled down before him, and then pulled out a small velvet box. “Will you marry me?” he asked as he opened the velvet box, hazel eyes greeted with a diamond ring. That’s lying inside the opened velvet box.

Tears started to slide from the ginger’s eyes after he heard those four words from his lover, if only Atsumu knew how long Hinata waited for this. He answered so proudly and hugged the blonde, saying “Yes, I do!” over and over again.

And once again, Atsumu felt like he’s on cloud nine when he heard his lover’s answer.

“Did you know that I was planning to do this on the day of their anniversary months ago, but I was worried that you might get pressured by saying ‘Yes.’ because of the number of people surrounding us.” Atsumu laughed, while still hugging the small man. Hinata felt warm after hearing those words from his Fiancé , considering how the ginger would feel about it.

Planning

“Love?” The blonde called, leaning over his Fiancé who’s busy working on their bed, wearing glasses and busy typing on his laptop. “Hmm?”

“Do you have any plans for tomorrow?” Atsumu asked. “Hmm… no. Why?” Shouyou replied and immediately threw a question at his lover. He continued to type, shoving the bridge of his glasses back up. “I wanna show you something, I just need your opinion for it.”

“Sure.” Shouyou answered timidly. Atsumu faced the ginger whose forehead is all scrunched up, his eyes looking so tired behind those glasses. “Hey!” The blonde immediately stole the spectacles lying on the ginger’s face and extended his arms as Hinata tried to grab it back. “Give it back!”

“No way! Rest first!” Atsumu laid down the glasses as he also grabbed and closed the device that’s lying on the lap of his Fiancé, setting it down on the bedside table beside where the glasses of the ginger is resting, immediately locking Shouyou into his big arms. “Let go!”

“Nope, sleep time!” The blonde felt his lover trying to let go from his grasp, small arms struggling as much as he can, but nothing worked against Atsumu and just gave up and fell asleep

--

“So? What do you think?” Atsumu asked Hinata as they walked inside the modern home that’s still in progress. Apparently his Fiancé brought him into one of his projects, asking for his opinion on it. “Why are you asking me this?” The redhead asked, walking around inside the house, observing the walls that had different streaks of cement. “Because I think you and my client seem to have the same taste, and the only thing he said to me is ‘Surprise me.’ and then gave me the cash and walked off.”

“So… You’re trusting my judgments to this house? Assuming that me and your client have the same preference?”

“Just... give me your thoughts about it.”

It’s been always like that ever since, Atsumu bringing his Fiancé to the modern home during their free time, asking for opinions and taking notes on every word that the ginger uttered about the house.

Wedding Gift

“Osamu! Make sure that everything is ready alright? Or else I’m gonna bite yer head off!” The blonde demanded, causing his twin to roll his eyes and then sighed. “Don’t worry, everything is under control you jerk.” The gray-haired twin replied. “How’s the honeymoon by the way?” Osamu asked, only receiving a chuckle from his twin. “Whatever happened in Rio, stays in Rio.” Atsumu replied, looking at the marks he left on Shouyou’s neck that was covered by his turtle neck jacket. “Ew gross, I wish I didn’t ask. Just come back home safely, okay?” And then he hung up.

Atsumu just held onto their luggage and looked at his husband who’s busy talking to the flight attendant.

“Who were you talking to?” Hinata asked as they finally settled inside the business class seat inside the plane. “It was just ‘Samu, just checking up on our honeymoon.” Atsumu leaned back on his seat and held his husband’s hand, drawing circles on the back of the ginger’s hand as his thumb accidentally brushed on their wedding ring. The blonde smiled and lifted Hinata’s hand and kissed it. “I love you, Miya Shouyou.”

--

When they finally arrived back in Japan, the couple saw the blonde’s twin along with his brunette boyfr-- Fiancé?! “Osamu-san! Rintarou-san! How have you been?” Shouyou greeted them with a smile, running towards them while pulling the luggage. “Damn ‘Samu, can’t believe you’re actually getting married.” Atsumu teased, looking at their engagement rings. “Says the one who just came back from their honeymoon.” The gray-haired twin retorted, rolling his eyes.

--

“Huh? Doesn’t this house belong to one of your clients, love?” The ginger asked, looking at the familiar modern home from the car window. Osamu, Rintarou and Atsumu didn’t answer Hinata’s question and waited for Osamu to park the car in front of the house

“Come, I need to show you something.” Atsumu pulled Shouyou outside the car from the passenger seat and then dragged him in front of the tall door, Shouyou’s hazel eyes are greeted with a full furnished home, walls are now painted in different shades of white, just like how Shouyou wanted it to be, plants rightfully placed by the staircase, pillars filling up some wide spaces of the entrance, and a gigantic chandelier dancing around up top.

“Welcome home, Shouyou.” Atsumu smiled, holding the key to their new house. The redhead couldn’t utter a word because he’s beyond surprised on what his husband just gave them. “But what about the old house?” he asked. “Don’t worry, my shithead twin handled everything.” He replied as he carried his husband in bridal style and then headed towards their new bedroom

Family

Inside the modern home, Shouyou was busy cooking breakfast for the family, and as for the other man, he was busy trying to get a hold of their twins aged twelve who were running around the house. "Hideo! Eito! come back here!" the blonde father yelled as he's chasing the two brunette twins, one holding a flour and the other holding a chocolate syrup, what did they do? Apparently when their tall father is still sleeping, they pulled a little prank on him, and Atsumu just wanted to teach them a lesson but couldn't catch up to his small naughty twelve year old children.

"Hideo! Eito! Breakfast is ready!" Shouyou called his twins and then they happily ran to the kitchen, dodging their blonde father. "Goodness Atsumu! What happened to you!" the redhead gasped as he looked at Atsumu who just entered the kitchen, covered in flour and syrup, still in his pajamas. the naughty twins giggled as they started eating, Shouyou knew that the twins pulled another prank on his blonde husband. "Hideo, Eito, you should stop pulling pranks on your father, okay? he might start crying." The ginger teased as he's setting down the plate for his six year old ginger daughter.

"Sorry.." the twins apologized as they began to eat. "But papa pulled a prank on us first! This wouldn't happen if he didn't draw on our faces with waterproof permanent markers the other day!" Hideo complained, causing Shouyou to cross his arms and then glared at his husband by the kitchen doorframe who just replied to him with an 'I didn't do it' look. "Atsumu.."

"What?" The blonde asked. He took a good look at his ginger husband for a moment and finally got to see Shouyou's face, scolding him with his eyes. "A-alright! I'm sorry love! No more pranks! I promise!" he apologized, causing their children to laugh at their father's antics. “Papa is so whipped!” the twins said. “Hey! Where did you learn that word?” Atsumu turned his head onto the twins, Shouyou just shook his head.

"If I caught one of you pulling pranks in this house again, I'm gonna confiscate your playstations, are we clear?" Shouyou scolded, causing the twins to stay quiet. "And you." He pointed at his blonde husband. "Couch." After he heard his husband utter the last word, Atsumu immediately walked over to his small husband, back hugging him while the ginger was busy prepping their meal.

Atsumu tried to convince his husband to not make him sleep on the couch as a punishment but only heard a snickering tease from the naughty twins.

“Get off from me! Wash yourself first! You’re sticky!” Shouyou complained as he continued to prep their meal, shoving Atsumu away from him.

"One day, I wanna find a husband who's as loving as my papa!" Akira blurted out causing her parents to look at her and smiled. "Oh you will find one someday Akira-chan! You just have to be patient and follow your heart!" The ginger father replied, walking over back to the table setting down the dishes and ruffled his daughter's orange head.

Anniversary

After dropping their kids at school, the couple set foot onto the familiar place, grass that’s so clean, the smell of the scented candles lingering around the place, and a tall flat stone standing vertically in front of them that has a familiar name ‘Kageyama Tobio’ engraved on it. Shouyou laid down a bouquet of flowers on Kageyama’s grave as Atsumu placed down a few candles, lighting them up. Atsumu and Shouyou held hands and prayed.

“Happy Death Anniversary Tobio.” Shouyou greeted at the stone grave. “I’m very thankful that I got to meet you in my life, it’s such a shame that you have to leave so soon. I’ll treasure the memories that we both shared for the past years before you leave me.” He paused. “I hope you’re happy living in the afterlife now, you don’t have to worry about us down here okay? After you left, she actually started moving forward, now married and have two kids.” Shouyou rested his head onto the tall man’s shoulders

“And as for the two of us.” Atsumu held the hand of his husband and started talking. “We’re going by just fine, living inside the house with the naughty twins and a beautiful princess.” He added and heard a chuckle from the redhead.

The couple continued to talk with their friend until the scented candle finally ran out. Atsumu brought out the new ones and prayed before they left. “Until we meet each other again, Tobio.”
