Work Text:

The wind howled past Henry’s ears, sending a shiver down her spine. Harold notices this and wraps a gentle arm around her shoulder, Henry leans into the touch.

It's just the two of them on the roof, if she's perfectly honest Henry prefers it like this. It's not like she doesn’t like the rest of their friends, she does but they can be a lot. When it's just her and Harold it's like a blanket of calm has been draped over her, easing her worries and blocking out the rest of the world till it's just them.

Manda says it's because she's in love, Manda has been saying lots of stuff like that since her and Bertie got together. Henry thinks she's gone a bit soppy, but she does have a point.

There's a freedom to being with Harold that she hasn’t felt since she was seventeen. It's a different freedom to what she gets when climbing but it's just as exhilarating.

It's strange, Henry thinks to herself, all these new feelings are bringing back memories of Her. But it doesn’t hurt as much as it used to and Henry doesn't feel the guilt she thought she might for finding someone new. In fact there's a certain comfort in remembering Verity, it reminds her of how far she's come as a person, from that scared little girl who couldn’t raise her hand in class, to the strong, independent woman she is today.

Beside her, Harold shifts, ‘You look deep in thought my love, what’s bothering you?’, Henry turns her head so she’s looking directly at him
‘Nothing. I was just thinking about us.’
‘All good things I hope’ Harold teases
‘Naturally’ Henry whispers cupping his cheek and bringing their faces closer together.

They kiss and it feels just like the first time, gentle, inviting and Henry thinks she must be floating.
