"So I just need to win over this project, right?" Jae asked his secretary, assistant, as well as his most trustable hyung, Mr. Kim, who is driving him to another important meeting for today.
"Yes, it'll be very advantageous for the company in the future if we join this project. It will build a good reputation too in the industry."
"Okay, arrange the meeting with them, then."
Mr. Kim clear his throat a little nervous, his eyes searching his boss' eyes to read the mood. "But I... am afraid that you couldn't win this..." He said a little too careful.
Jae smirks, "Again? You're looking down on me again? You saw me won a project yesterday, at my first attempt as an investment manager. But you're looking down on me again. Was that not enough prove to you? I might be young to be in this position but I clearly capable, you see?"
"Ah... that's not what I meant, Sir." Mr. Kim laughing nervously. "Of course you proved yourself."
"Then why? Why you think I couldn't win this new project?" Jae glare at him over the rearview mirror starting to feel impatient.
Mr. Kim clear his throat nervously once again, "The client will choose their partner tomorrow night in this party event..."
"Then get me in that party."
Mr. Kim sigh, "The problem is... the party is only open for a couple..."
Jae frowning his forehead upon hearing that strange information. "What does it mean?"
"So this is..." Mr. Kim is looking for a simple words to explain it, "If you're not bring your girlfriend with you, then you can't enter."
Jae smirk and laugh, "Yah! Are we there to having fun or what? Why doing business stuff in that kind of event? Who's the client? Why so childish?"
Another sound of clearing throat from Mr. Kim, "It's Yoon Dowoon's project, Sir. Your junior in college. Also one of the rising star in the industry, just like you."
"Ah, really..." Jae chuckled annoyed, turn his sight to the right, watching many cars passing by this long toll road.
"Unless you want to reveal your girlfriend, I think you couldn't attend that event."
Another smirks from Jae, "You're making fun of me, aren't you?"
Reveal my girlfriend? How can I reveal someone if I don't have one? He thought in annoyance state.
Mr. Kim cough nervously again, "No, Sir..."
"Find a way to get me into the party." Jae said coldly and demanding.
It gets silence suddenly for a couple minutes, leaving Jae absent-mindedly watching the not-much-too-look-at scenery from the window. No thoughts, just toll scenery that suddenly looks more interesting than this conversation.
"What about searching one from dating apps, Sir?"
Jae growls instantly hearing that. He glare at Mr. Kim again through the rearview mirror.
"It'll took too long, right?" Mr. Kim laughs nervously. "Or what about trying WeDate? It's pretty popular these days."
"What is that? Isn't that just the same with other dating apps?"
"No, it's totally different. You have to pay to get a girlfriend for a specific event at specific time period."
Jae laughs unbelievably.
"Rent a girlfriend. They're marketing the app like that."
"The world has become such a weird place, hasn't it?" Jae is back to watching the window, feeling helpless.
Mr. Kim clear his throat once again, "It's a Start Up business from your college friends, Sir. Brian, the heir of K Group."
Jae helplessly laugh once again, "What is he thinking while creating that?" He mumbling alone.
"But it's pretty famous along millenials these days."
"Yah! Isn't that pretty much the same with prostitution?"
"No! Both parties doing it with full consent. Besides, the terms and condition is very clear about the boundaries. You'll get extra charges if you breaking the rules. They're currently working on the law protection too for their clients and customers."
Jae looking at his secretary in suspicion.
Mr. Kim smiles, "Ah, I always updated with whatever is happening in this world. It somehow brings creativity while doing business, don't you think? Industry's behaviours has changed obviously, and I'm on the side who get along with it, not against it. That's why I know about it a lot and see it with light and open mindedly."
Jae sigh and put his head onto the seat then close his eyes, decided to enjoy the remaining ride in silence.
Does it mean I'm close minded? He only voicing it on his mind.
Jae looking at his phone screen in freeze, to the registration page he's been opened for about 5 minutes already.
"I must be crazy." He mumbled to himself but start to move his thumbs on the screen, touch a bar that asking basic personal info then typing slowly, half-heartedly. He fill all the columns fast with his basic information then click on the next step, taken aback upon reading 'Tell me your girlfriend preferences ❤️' then ended up laughing. Laughing himself off of his pathetic way to get a girlfriend, fake girlfriend just to enter that weird party Dowoon held.
He almost close the app right away after feeling so embarassed about himself, but that project force him to keep going. So he take a deep sigh and start to fill in the columns one by one.
"Same nationality..." he tick a box. "Younger than me..." tick another box. "Color skin doesn't matter..." And another box. "Long hair... Height just need to fitted with mine." He keep fill in the questions until the last question asking about personality, then tick in 'cheerful' option.
"Wait... I need her to attend a formal business event, is cheerful correct, though? Maybe I should choose smart or glamor instead?" He mumbling alone again. But in the end he keep his choice then click the next step, the agreement. And he took a long time to read every single sentences there, really studying everything thoroughly before tick the 'I accept' button.
He's taking a deep sigh while waiting the app loading on to the next step, then open his mouth automatically when the screen finally showing a lot of girl faces to him. "Why so many? Crazy. The world really has become crazy." He scroll down fast without really paying attention to the descriptions in every pictures.
He decided to use filter then, specified his search with the date he would rent a girl, and the kind of event he would take the girl.
He only got two results, though. Both are pretty, but there's one description that gets his attention.
I'm doing this to pay my last semester tuition to be able to graduated. Done with my essay already, just need to get an approval, so help me!
Jae laugh in disbelief.
"Okay, let me help you." He click the picture just like that, get a notice from the app right away that inform him to wait for the girl's response for awhile. "I must be crazy." Jae moving his head left and right fast before finally turn off his phone and get to sleep.
