A Tale of Two Spies

Summary:

Medic makes an unusual discovery and needs the Spy to step in and help cover it up. Against his best wishes, the Spy must play the role of both the RED Spy and the BLU Spy, much to the detriment of his health and already weak relations.

Based on the cut Meet the Medic scene.

Notes:

I wrote a chapter in my one shot collection, Professionals Have Autism, and realized that this was something that I wanted to pursue for longer than one or two chapters. You aren't missing anything if you don't read it, but if you are interested in getting more of a look into the characters as people, that where you can find it.

Also, if you didn't read the tags, Medic has DID. This is explored in said work, but that's just a fact you should know about before jumping in.

Chapter 1: Head

Summary:

Medic has fucked up and propositions Spy to help him while he fixes it.

Chapter Text

The Spy took a long, final drag of his cigarette before flicking it out in his hand. He wasn't looking forward to whatever the doctor had asked him here about, but he had lingered outside the lab long enough. Whatever he had in mind for the Spy would not be anything that he couldn't handle, but he was certain he wouldn't like it. He straightened his suit, took a deep breath, and stepped inside.

The Medic didn't notice his arrival. He was hunched over his table, hard at work on… something. The Spy strode silently into the room, not eager to see what the man was working on but not enthusiastic about the idea of being in the dark of the Medic's experiments. He made his way up to the doctor’s side, glancing carefully at the project underneath him. It moved and he decided it was best to get to business.

He cleared his throat. “Doctor.”

The Medic swung around, and Spy had just the reflexes to dodge a bone saw aimed at beheading him. There was a second of silence as the Medic held the bloody saw steadily at the Spy’s neck.

“Pleased to see you as well,” The Spy said, gently pushing the saw away. “I hope you didn’t call me in here just to swipe at me.”

The Medic set the saw down and pushed his glasses up his blood splattered face. He cleared his throat, regaining his composure.

“My apologies,” He said, standing between the Spy and the table. “Most people have the common courtesy to knock before entering.”

“I’m sure you’re aware, I have a habit of arriving unannounced,” The Spy glanced down at the table as the Medic moved to block his view, quick to look back to the man. “What did you need from me, monsieur?”

“Ah, right!” The Medic grabbed a white sheet from nearby and placed it over his experiment as he talked, not moving from the spot where he blocked Spy’s view. “I need a favor from you.”

“A favor?” The sheet moved of its own accord as the Medic pulled it flat.

“Yes!” He stated with a smile. “I need someone of your exact profession to assist me. I may have made a slight mistake that I need assistance covering up while I work to fix it.”

“A mistake?” The Spy asked, an eyebrow raised. He pulled out a cigarette and lit it.

“Well, mistake isn’t really the word I would use normally, but in this case if the knowledge of this got into the wrong hands…” The Medic rambled as he skirted around the topic. He chuckled with a shrug. “Well, I can’t imagine the RED team would function very well without a medic.”

Spy let out a puff of smoke. “Are you worried for your job or your life?”

“Ah, well… hm… Well, you see…” He gestured emptily for a few seconds before walking over to his fridge. “Well, how about I just show you.”

Spy watched the Medic open the fridge, his view of the contents blocked by the door and the doctor’s body. Medic closed the fridge door and placed a decapitated head on the table in front of the Spy. It was the head of the BLU Spy.

The RED Spy stared in shock at the head in front of him.

“What the hell?” He said after regaining his senses. “Why has he not been respawned?”

“Because he’s not dead,” The Medic beamed.

Quoi?” The Spy looked from the Medic to the head on the table.

“I wish I were dead.” The BLU head squinted up at the RED Spy. He looked like he hadn’t slept in days and was feeling its effects.

The Medic squatted down next to the head, a proud beam still on his face. “Not only is he still alive, but I have also made him invincible!”

Sacrebleu…” His eyes were glued to the other Spy’s in an intense staring contest. “Why?”

The Medic chuckled. “Well, I’ll be honest. It wasn’t my intention. It was a… serendipitous discovery, if you will. But we can’t deny such a powerful tool simply because it was generously handed to us. I just need you to help me cover this… mishap… up while I figure out how to utilize it… And how to get rid of him.”

The Spy cringed as the Medic talked, eyes not leaving the pleading eyes of his fellow Spy.

“What are you proposing?”

“Well, the Administration will almost definitely notice the BLU Spy’s disappearance within the week. I’m asking that you make sure they don’t find out that he is missing.”

Spy looked to the Medic who had circled around the table to him. “How do you expect me to do that?”

The Medic shrugged with a smile. “You’re the expert, are you not? I’m sure no one will miss him out of work hours, but he was hired for a reason.”

“Are you suggesting I make a habit of backstabbing you?” He asked, suppressing his surprise, eyes wandering to the head on the table.

The Medic chuckled a bit. “I suppose I am.”

The Spy took a long drag from his cigarette, receiving a sympathetic look from the BLU Spy.

“And why would I do that?” He asked, smoke spilling out of his mouth.

“Oh, is the prospect of helping a coworker in need not enough?” He teased with a false pout. The look was immediately replaced with a grin. “Well, it would be a shame if our Jeremy Laurent found out his father had been living with him for years now without telling him.”

The Spy’s attention snapped back to the Medic. “What do you know of him?” He spat.

“Ah, well, the DNA tests don’t lie,” He shrugged with a smile. “It would be a shame if some information were to slip out of my hands.”

“You wouldn’t dare,” The Spy hissed.

“Are you willing to test that hypothesis?” The Medic grinned from ear to ear.

The Spy knew he would. He bit down on the filter of his cigarette, crushing it. He spat the ruined cigarette onto the man’s floor.

“Fine,” He growled. “Watch your back.”

He turned to leave.

“Ah, one more thing!” The Medic called. The Spy stopped, turning to look at him. “I’m sure I do not need to tell you this, but I would suggest keeping this matter to yourself. It would be a shame if anyone else were a liability.”

Spy knew the “advice” was a thinly veiled threat.

“Go fuck yourself.” He spat as he continued his way out.

Ludwig, however, knew he had the upper hand with this and had bought himself as much time as he could ever want.
