Work Text:
“...And L/n Y/n and Tsukishima Kei.” The teacher finished off the list, placing the paper on her desk. You sighed, rolling your eyes. Out of all people, it’s had to be Tsukishima? The two of you butted heads constantly, both your salty attitudes rivaling the other’s.
“Class dismissed.” The teacher announced, and chairs scraped against the floor as students began to leave. Thankfully it was the end of the day, so you could pop on your headphones and drown out the world on the way home.
Someone called your name, and you pulled out an earbud and turned around, expecting your friend. Instead, you were greeted with the chest of a very tall person. Looking up with a scowl, you were met with a similar expression.
“Oh. It’s you.” You said, having no interest in having a conversation with Tsukishima. He curled his lip. “Look, it wasn’t my idea to be partnered up for this damn project.” You crossed your arms, letting your earbud hang on your shoulder. “I never said it was.”
He looked ready to bite back with a snark remark. Instead, he ran a hand over his face, rolling his eyes. "What I was going to say is since it's Friday, my practice end early. You can come to my house around five and we can work there," he said, his tone calmer.
"I don't know you address," you pointed out, causing Tsukishima to angrily pull out a pen and paper, scribble down his address, and hand it to you."Thanks," was all you said before turning around and walking off.
Taking your usual route, you grumbled about Tsukishima to yourself. For whatever reason, the tall volleyball player had a talent getting under your skin. He also had a talent in his chosen sport, you had to admit. You'd seen some of their games.
While it true he definitely wasn't the star, (that role belonged to Kageyama and Hinata), he was good. But other than his thing for the sport, that was all you knew about him. Granted, you didn't know much about anyone at Karasuno High.
You had one friend, Michimiya, and unfortunately she had her own volleyball practice. Worse, she was a third year, meaning it wouldn't be long before you didn't have anyone once again. Unless of course, your soulmate was somewhere at Karasuno.
All you knew/suspected about them was they hadn't grown out of the dinosaur phase every kid ever seemed to have had. The indicator? The small T-Rex on the inside of your wrist. You'd always gravitated towards people who had a clear interest in the prehistoric creatures, developing your own fascination with them.
This however caused almost everyone to laugh at you when you still showed interest at the subject at sixteen, pushing you farther into your shell. It only became worse when your parents started traveling all over the world for their job, finally landing in Japan.
You were snapped away by almost stepping on a tabby. Your tabby. You sighed with a smile. "Dino. How was your day?" you asked, taking out your house key as the cat followed you to the porch. "Probably better than mine," you muttered, opening the door. The cat ran all the way to the laundry room, hopping up on the table, mewing for food.
You complied, before heading to your room, weaving your way through boxes. You room was the only one fully unpacked, mostly because your parents were out for most of the day. You dropped your bag, flopping on your bed, and sighed at the ceiling.
At least you had something to do tonight. Most of the time you stayed in. Changing out of your uniform, you tossed it in the dirty clothes, pulling on some casual wear.
Opening your computer, your began scribbling down a few notes the two of you might need on your topic. Jotting them down in the single notebook you owned, you flipped past sketches of dinosaurs and your classmates.
Your subjects included Michimiya, action shots of the girls' volleyball team, and some of your classmates. One was even of Tsukishima, but you told yourself it was because he was in a position you didn't frequently do, therefore get anatomy practice in rare positions and his long limbs.
If you were being honest, it sounded like a lame excuse to even you. In fact, the subject had even come up from Michimiya. When asked, you gave the latter excuse to which she raised an eyebrow and casually suggested if you thought he was cute.
You rolled your eyes remembering the whole exchange. Glancing at the clock, you figured you better get going. Packing your computer and notes, you slung your bag over your shoulder, locked the door, and made your way to Tsukishima's house.
Once again, with your earbuds in, you walked the streets lost in your own thoughts, only looking up when someone called your name. Turning around, you saw Tsukishima and his friend Yamaguchi, no doubt walking home from volleyball practice.
"Hey! L/n, right?" Yamaguchi called again, waving. You nodded. "Yeah, but you can just call me Y/n." He nodded. "You haven't gone home yet?" He asked. "No, I have, I just have a project to do," you nodded at Tsukishima. "With him."
Tsukishima curled his lip. "I'm right here." You looked at him. "oh, no no, I'm aware." Yamaguchi looked between you. He wasn't a stranger to Tsukishima making enemies, but there was a different energy between you two. "Ok, I'm gonna go..." he said.
"See you tomorrow," he waved to Tsukishima, who astonishingly waved back. As Yamaguchi left, Tsukishima began walking, not waiting for you. You huffed, jogging a bit to catch up with him before slipping your headphones back on, Tsukishima mirroring your actions.
Coming upon what you assumed was his house, you followed him in, ignoring what again you assumed to be his brother sending comments about him finally getting a girl. You did notice the light blush on his cheeks. Upon entering his room however, your attention was brought to a lineup of figurines on his shelf.
Dinosaur figurines.
No, no, no,no! Not him! Why him-? Stop. You didn't know anything for sure. It was just a theory. You needed to find a way to touch him, not in a weird way, by what seemed like an accident.
You were so lost in thought, you barely noticed Tsukishima snapping his fingers in your face, waking you from your daze. "Oi! Dumbass! We have work to do." He said, glaring at you.
In the moment, you were suddenly really pissed off. Slapping his hand away, you opened your mouth for a retort. What stopped you was the sharp zap that passed through his palm and the back of your hand.
Time stopped, and both of you backed away from each other. Tsukishima opened his mouth, but nothing came out. You looked down, rubbing your neck. Preparing an excuse to go home, you opened your mouth.
You were cut off before you could even begin, Tsukishima smashed his lips into yours, surprising you both. He pulled back, looking sheepish and unsure for once. "H-hi?" You said. Tsukishima sighed, dragging a hand down his face. "You're such an idiot."
You smiled at him for once. "Yes, I would love to get coffee sometime."
"Does now work?"
"Now sounds great."
