Summary:

Everyone has a mark on their wrist. It represents their soulmate. The first time you touch your soulmate, you get a shock. Your's was a carton of milk. With your brother a part of the volleyball team, and a certain blueberry-eyed boy drinking milk almost every time you saw him, some things were staring to add up...

Work Text:

“That’s awesome!!” You exclaimed. Tadashi blushed. You twisted the cap off your drink, nudging your brother. “You two are adorable together! It’s incredible how you met when you were kids,” you commented before taking a swig of your drink.

“Yeah, funny that we just thought that it meant we were supposed to be best friends,” Tadashi rubbed the back of his neck. “I mean, you still could be. Uncle Tsuyomi is ace/aro and he loves his soulmate. They're just best buds.” You smiled.

“I can tell you love him though,” you said softly. Tadashi smiled. “I do,” he whispered back. "And you'll find yours soon." He said. You looked down. You had always been kinda eager to find your soulmate, and you still hadn't found them. "I hope so." You said.

Coming upon the gym, you took your place nest to Yachi and Kiyoko. As a manger-in-training to help Yachi, you were there often to learn the rules of the game and provide support to your brother.

Tadashi ran over to see his boyfriend, Kei. The two exchanged a shy kiss, and Yachi awed. "Those two are so cute," she whispered, a hand over her heart. She then turned to you. "You find your soulmate yet?" You brought up your wrist to look at the run-of-the-mill carton of milk painted there. "Maybe," you mused. Yachi looked at you. "Really?" She squealed.

You quieted her, smiling. "I just...Kageyama always is drinking milk, and I've seen him at the vending machine before, and that's the only thing he gets." You explained. Yachi's smile widened. "What's with the grin?" You asked. You cracked your own smile. "What do you know?" She covered her mouth.

"Oh, nothing, just that his is an apple." She said, her voice muffled by her palm a bit. Your eyes widened. "His is a what?" You hissed. Yachi didn't answer, pretending to be taking notes in her journal. "Hey! Yamaguchi!" Both you and your brother looked up. Ukai was waving one of you over. "The older one!" He said, pointing at you.

"Hey, I'm the older one!" Tadashi protested. "Only by twelve minutes!" You stuck your tongue out, heading towards Ukai. "What's up?" You asked, reaching him. "Are you going to be at the practice game on Tuesday?" The man asked, taking out his notebook. You nodded. "the one on the twelfth, right?" Ukai hummed.

"That's the one. Kiyoko has a college interview that day so you and Yachi will be on full duty," he explained. You nodded, then headed back to Yachi and Kiyoko. Kiyoko handed you the notebook she carried around, showed you the starting lineup, the understudies, and the guidelines. When she left, Yachi came up behind you and whispered, "So are you planning to find out?"

"Guh!" You jumped at her sudden appearance. "Find out what?" You asked. She rolled her eyes. "About you and Kageyama!" She exclaimed. "No!" This was said rather loudly, and a few of the boys turned to look at the two of you. You lowered your voice.

"No, and besides, it's a very slim chance." Yachi looked at you with an 'are you kidding me' look. "Miss ma'am! His is an apple. Yours is a milk carton. How could you not be??"

"I'm not opposed to the idea," you defended, flipping through the notebook again. "He's not a bad-looking guy. It's just-"

"Y/n called you hot!" Hinata's voice echoed through the gym. It was the first time you'd been provoked to tell the energetic kid to shut up. When had they come in, damnit? You wouldn't have said that if you knew Hinata's keen ears were nearby. The two almost always came in together, so you'd learned to shut your mouth about Kageyama when he was near.

So maybe you had a tiny crush on the black-haired boy. People had crushes, significant others, and did things with people who weren't their soulmates. Especially in high school. Yachi and Tadashi probably knew, and that's why Yachi was being so persistent. That's why she was whispering. The duo were right next to you.

Kageyama turned to you and you gulped. "Did you really?" He asked quietly. Yachi popped up in front of you, her social anxiety gone. "Yeah, she did, and she mmph mmmph mph mmmmphh." You had clapped a hand over he mouth before she could go on, dropping the notebook you had in your hand in the process.

Kageyama bent down to grab them, offering you them when you turned around, startling you. You stepped back out of surprise, bumping into Yachi, who nudged you forward. "I did, and I wasn't lying," you said reaching for the thin paper book.

Just as you grabbed it, Kageyama's finger touched yours, and an unmistakable shock went through the point of contact, like the static shock you got after dragging your feet on a rug and touching a doorknob. This time, both of you dropped the pink notebook. Everyone stared.

"I guess we're soulmates." Kageyama spoke first, causing a ripple through the boys. Yachi jumped up and pointed at you with a triumphant, "HAH!" "Wait, you knew?" Kageyama asked. "I suspected," you corrected, showing your wrist. Kageyama turned slightly pink at the milk carton.

Hinata burst out laughing. "I told you you drink too much milk!" Kageyama turned to him. "Oh you shut it, dumbass." He yelled. You laughed. Kageyama turned back to you, clearing his throat. "Sooo...coffee after practice?" He asked.

"Why don't we just stop by the vending machine, Milk Boy?" You elbowed him playfully. He smirked. "I could say the same to you, Apple Girl."

"Oi!"
