Chapter Text
Prologue:
The whole cemetery was damp despite the sun that was blazing down on them. This was the first time Eren or anyone for that matter had seen the emotional side of his father. His dad had never been a person to show any sort of emotion other than happiness to anyone, regardless of relation. Before all of this, he had never drank, never gotten himself involved in drug deals, and if he had before it was unlikely that anyone had known about it. Grisha's emotions had never been open to anyone, and he had always kept them locked away.
Eren had never been particularly like that. He showed how he felt to who he wanted, but was one to get worked up quickly and he wasn't ashamed of it. He hated the ‘men don't cry stereotype’ and anyone who believed in it made his blood boil. They were all human; weren't they?
He was one of the most distressed out of the group, he didn't fully know or understand that well, but he would figure it out eventually. No one had the heart to tell him what the cause of death was, even if it was going to come back at him later in life.
They all stood around the casket, silent tears trickling down their cheeks. The atmosphere felt suffocating and the bright weather put an uneasy feeling in everyone's gut. The sun was out, and the whole planet was out and about enjoying themselves, giggles of small children could be heard in the distance.
It was a private scenario, despite the whole accident being on every news station in New England. Their whole city knew about what had happened to her and how. Eren had tried to make sense of it but that led to no avail, he was just a kid. One second they had been driving down the road and the next the car was flipped on the side of the highway; his mother unresponsive.
