Chapter Text
“With me, you have no fear. As your top #4 hero, I can assure you that I will do everything I can to the best of my abilities to ensure not just our present society's safety but the future’s, as well.”
The crowd broke into an applause as soon as you delivered the last line. You looked around the audience with a smile, your heart brimming with pride and utter happiness. You could not think of anything other than the fact that the private hero lessons that you had to endure growing up are finally paying off.
Keigo Takami, better known by his hero name Hawks, whistles from behind to join the crowd that was cheering you on. You look at him with a smile as you went back to your position.
With Best Jeanist, the just-declared #3 hero, still heavily injured after the Kamino Incident, Hawks came after you. It is apparent he is trying to elicit a response from Endeavor as he was giving his speech and you can not help but give out a laugh because you knew how much Keigo adores Endeavor though the old man is as oblivious to it as he gets. Endeavor heard you enjoying his embarrassment and glared you down. You cleared your throat as if there was a lump on the back of it before looking away to the sea of crowd and flashing lights from the cameras shuttering.
As the rest of the event played out, you could not help but think about the things you had to go through to get to where you are now. The memories came in as quick flashes, where some even made you break out into a small smile. In the background, Endeavor’s voice as he is giving his speech was being drowned out with your recollection of the days while you were still a hero in training.
You close your eyes as another wave of searing pain flared into both of your temples. You can feel your body temperature rising and tears were starting to well off your eyes.
“I can’t do it anymore, I’m tired and in pain”, you huffed. “You know I can only do my quirk effectively when I focus on one.”
Hizashi (Hero name: Present Mic), your uncle who was given the task to be your tutor, smiled at you with the hopes of boosting your mood up, “With a little bit of training, you can definitely use your quirk on a wide range of people. Didn’t you promise your parents you would train really hard to be a top hero in exchange to live here with me in Japan?”
“And now, I want to go back. I never knew my quirk could exhaust me this way mentally!”
“Now, now”, he pats your shoulder. “We, Yamadas, don’t give up easily. You have a quirk that can definitely change the course of anything you are put up against. With that being said, let’s start again from the top, shall we?”
“Hey beautiful”, Keigo muttered as he stood in front of you, which brought you back to reality. “The event just ended. Fancy to share what it was you daydreamed about me?”
You jokingly hit him in his arm as you chuckled, “Dummy, I wasn’t thinking of you.”
Heavy footsteps were nearing and you looked behind him, only to see Endeavor and his towering body. He grunted in disdain when he walked past you and Keigo who has now his arm snaked through your waist. He gave you a quick peck on the lips, “Sorry, I have to go and apologize to the old man now.”
You laughed. “You are such a little fanboy. Don’t pull whatever tricks you are planning on him.”
Keigo removed his arms from you and kissed the tip of your nose. “I promise I’m not. I’ll call you later, beautiful”, he said to you one more time before running off to catch up to the top 1 hero. “Endeavor-san! Endeavor-san! Wait up!”
You looked around, only to see that most of the heroes that were with you before on the stage were starting to leave. You locked eyes with Rumi, who gave you a quick thumbs-up before she turned her attention back to Edgeshot who gave you a nod as an acknowledgment.
Well, I guess it’s time for me to go home now.
“Blare!” a voice called out just as you were about to step off the stage. You look back to see who was calling for you only to be greeted by the HPSC’s president.
“President.” You gave a quick bow. “I was just about to head out. What can I do for you?”
She bowed back, “I’m sorry for holding you back but can I call you for a meeting right now in my office, please?”
“Oh… uhh, sure.”, You gave her a smile to let her know it was okay. “After you.” You held out your hand as a gesture for her to lead the way.
The president’s office was on the top floor of the building which made the long walk from the stage to the destination a little awkward. As she opens the door, you were greeted by a vast, white room with high ceilings. “Please take a seat.”
You sat across her and noticed how you were slouching your back a bit which made you straightened up.
“I won’t waste any more of your time so I’ll just make this meeting short. I’m sure you have heard of the Kamino incident and how much it has affected us. Not only was our Symbol of Peace taken, but others have also been stricken by it as well -- UA students were involved, numerous infrastructures were taken down, the mass hysteria it caused is still apparent until now, and well, it took a huge toll on some of our heroes.”
You nodded along to her words, “I wish I were here at the time. I could have been a part of it and helped ease the burden to some of my seniors.”
“There’s no use trying to lament over what was. What’s important now is you are here and now you can fully render your service to us. Do you think you will be up to the challenge?”
“I’m fully dedicated to taking part in ensuring the safety of everyone. Whatever it is you want me to do, I will do it if that means keeping the country a better place to live in.”
“Alright.” The president took a deep breath and looked you straight in the eye. Her serious expression caught you off guard a little that you tried to calm yourself and took deep breaths in to prepare for whatever it is you are getting yourself into. 1, 2, 3… it can’t be that bad whatever it is she’s asking of me, right?
“The Hero Public Safety Commission wants you to infiltrate the League of Villains by joining them.”
