    There’s a solace in understanding this: that even when Merlin deceived him, when he comforted and counseled Arthur through the painful deceptions of every person he had ever held dear, when he promised Arthur he would never betray his trust, and when he begged for Arthur to accept his betrayal instead of accepting death, none of it had been done out of cruelty. It had all been done out of love.
