Work Text:
Avis and Jack lay in front of the fireplace on a white bear fur in the cabin Jack rented as a little Easter surprise for Avis. They were in the mountains somewhere in nowhere surrounded by snow.
Avis nuzzled to Jack’s bare chest after their romantic lovemaking, both only lightly covered with a blanket.
“I think that’s the best surprise ever. It’s the most beautiful for sure! -” Avis whispered to his chest.
“Thank you, darling” She continued as she looked up just to receive a passionate kiss from Jack.
“You needed it; you’re working too much. You needed something and someplace to relax. I thought this would be perfect.” He explained to her, petting her open red curls as Avis rested her head back on his chest, smiling with her eyes closed.
That however wasn’t the only reason why Jack had planned their little trip away from everything, he had something else in store for Avis. We had planned it all for weeks and today was the day.
Jack looked at the little black velvet box to his left-hand side, suddenly feeling a bit nervous. He wasn’t nervous about what he was about to do but about how Avis would react.
Be a man and do it! She can only say ‘yes’ or ‘no’.
He reached for the velvet box with his left hand, took a breath and asked what he wanted to ask her,
“Avis will you marry me?”
Avis’ eyes shot open with her head still resting on his chest.
“What did you just say?!” Avis asked since she wasn’t sure if she heard him right.
“I’ve asked you if you would marry me.” Jack replied with an insecure smile on his lips now.
Shit, I blew it…
She put herself in a seating position to look at him better as Jack kneeled in front of her, holding the black velvet box up saying,
“Avis Amberg, will you become my wife?” as he slowly opened the little box to reveal a beautiful platinum ring, surrounded by little diamonds on its bend and in the middle a bigger diamond.
Avis’ jaw dropped, her eyes scooting back and forth Jack and the ring.
“Jack...Do you really mean it?” She asked unsure if he knew what he was asking her.
“I wouldn’t ask you if I wouldn’t mean it, Avis. All you have to say is ‘yes’ or ‘no’.”
“Oh, I would love to marry you, but-” she started as tears welled in her eyes, trying to swallow them down,
“Jack I’m much older than you, I could be your mother. I have a daughter in your age. And speaking of which, don’t you think you might want some children?” Avis expressed her fears to him.
“Avis, you know that I don’t care about the age gap and as for children, we could still try, you’re only 50. And if it doesn’t work, we could adopt a baby, only if you want to, that is?” Jack stated.
“I’ve always wanted more children, -” she acknowledged sadly,
“but after two miscarriages… I just couldn’t bear losing another child. It hurt so much; it still does.” Avis continued, her tears streaming down her cheeks now as Jack hugged her tightly soothing her.
“Sshhh, I didn’t know, you never told me.” Jack tried to calm her.
“I don’t usually talk about it. It’s too painful… Even now, 10 years later.” Avis cried into Jack’s chest.
“It’s alright, it won’t happen again. We can adopt and if you don’t want another kid, then we leave it there.” He whispered in her ear, feeling her relaxing in his arms.
“I just wanna be with you, Avis. That’s all I want. It’s you who I want as a family, as my family! You, Avis, is all I need.” He ensured her as Avis drew back from his chest to cover his lips with hers.
Jack granted her tongue immediate access, as he started to tease her mouth with his, making Avis moan. She straddled his bare lap, pushing him back in a lying position but never leaving his mouth. Jack’s hands found their way from Avis’ shoulders, over to her back and to her perfectly formed waist where he rested them for a moment before he turned them around and changed positions in one swift move, making him to the one straddling Avis now.
He kissed her one last time before he crawled to the ring to get it.
“Jaa-ck!” Avis whined in frustration over the sudden loss of contact and passion, propping up on her elbows to see with a frown where he went and why. When she saw him coming back with the little box her frown changed into a light but beautiful smile.
“So, what ya say? -“Jack began when he once again kneeled on one knee in front of Avis just holding the open box in front of her,
“Will you marry me?” he finally ended his sentence.
Avis came up, now kneeling on her both knees herself, facing him. She gave him a true smile as she reached for his face with both of her hands, palming his cheeks before kissing him, softly but still passionately.
“Yes!” That was all Avis said after drawing back from his lips.
Jack needed a few seconds to process what she had said and to connect one and two.
“You’ll marry me?” He asked almost in disbelief.
“Well, I said ‘yes’, didn’t I?” Avis chuckled.
He took the ring out of its box, throwing the box in some corner while his eyes never left hers. Then he took her left hand in his, kissing her knuckles before he slipped the engagement ring onto her ring finger. It fit perfectly. Avis didn’t have time to look at the new ring on her finger where once had been the engagement ring she got from Ace and her wedding bend underneath it. Jack pressed his lips on hers which made her fall onto her back, as both started to laugh.
Jack lay down, next to his soon-to-be wife, encouraging her to lean back against his chest, which she did.
Avis held up her left hand, looking at the beautiful ring,
“It’s gorgeous! You know my taste in jewelry very well. -” She admitted while smiling down at the ring.
“But something plain and simple would’ve done the job right, as well.” Avis added.
“You deserve just the best!” Jack whispered to her hair before places a soft kiss on her forehead.
“I love you, Jack.” Avis said softly, slightly turning her head to look at him.
“And I love you, Avis. And I will never leave you.”
Avis smiled, before closing her eyes and drifting off to sleep.
