Chapter Text

The words the white-haired man says send a chill down your spine. You don’t even remember everything, only a few words sticking out in your mind.

Arranged. Fake engagement. Toge.

“Are you listening?” His voice pierces through your thoughts, but all you can do is stay silent. After a few seconds you feel yourself come back to reality and look at the man in the driver’s seat.

“Yes, I am. Thank you.” You reply as politely as possible, not wanting to anger him. The past few minutes had been chaotic to say the least, but through it all you knew that this man一Gojo apparently一was on your side.

-----------------------

Throughout your life, your parents always kept you hidden from the world of curses and sorcerers. They did tell you about the cursed energy, clans, and sorcery, though, to make sure you wouldn’t be completely dumbfounded if anything ever happened. Hiding was an affair that wasn’t very hard to accomplish for a while, especially since you had the ability to literally become invisible. Although the idea of keeping you hidden was easy at first, it didn’t take long for you to yearn for freedom. It was hard to watch others come in and out of the house freely while you trailed the hallways, always wandering. But you took advantage of the time you had, practicing the abilities you discovered.

After trying to escape twice and almost losing your life in one of those instances, your parents sat you down for a “talk.” With the slightly awkward tension in the room, you initially thought that you were going to be lectured about your behavior (or even worse, a watered down sex education conversation). As your mother became teary eyed, though, it hit you that regardless of the topic, the conversation wasn’t going to go well.

You learned that your parents were in fact, not your parents. It didn’t surprise you as much as they thought it would, given that you had always heard the maids around you whispering rumors about your mysterious appearance in a random rich couple’s home. What did surprise you was the revelation that you were distantly related to a powerful sorcerer. A powerful sorcerer that apparently wanted to come and collect his distant relative at once. How he found out about your existence to begin with, you had no clue. And it looked as though your parents had no intentions of clearing anything up, whether it was about your true lineage or what the hell was going on.

When Gojo did arrive at the residence (with a far too dramatic entrance), you watched from the top of the marble stairs as your parents practically got on their knees to greet him. Everything was fine until he actually looked at you. Then, it hit you that he could actually see you, and that you weren’t as well hidden as you thought you were.

“Ah, you thought you could hide from me?” You heard him ask, his blue eyes still fixed onto you. You dropped the veil of energy immediately, not quite seeing the point in staying hidden anymore when he could see right through it.

“Don’t worry. Think of me as your natural enemy due to my strikingly amazing vision! I don’t think any other sorcerers will ever be able to see you.” He added, gesturing for your parents to stand.

“Anyways…” He continued, ignoring the fact that you hadn’t even responded yet, still frozen in shock. “Come with me, I’m going to free you from this hell. You’re far too powerful to be confined in this small space. You’ll be in a group with some kids your age as well, even a fellow social reject!”

You tried to calm your heart down at his words, still not knowing whether you could actually trust him or not.

Free.

You only nodded, so used to taking orders your whole life anyways. Maybe a bit too used to taking them, in Gojo’s opinion. Your head was angled to the floor as you walked past your parents, already anticipating one of them snapping at you.

“Please, forgive me for imploring, but you must uphold your end of the deal.” You father said firmly. You had no idea what he was referring to, but it seemed to be between him and Gojo.

“I will, old man. Now if you’ll excuse us, goodbye!” Gojo said, opening the door for you. In a haze, you walked past the door, already in awe of your surroundings. You’d been outside before, if your two escape attempts were anything to go by. Those events had happened in the middle of the night, though.

“What deal?” You asked the white-haired man beside you as you walked toward the car.

“You know rich old-time people and their odd obsession with getting their kids married?” You nodded at his words, remembering the many times your parents mentioned marriage. “They want me to play matchmaker in exchange for meeting and training you.” Gojo explained, opening the car door for you and quickly making his way to the driver’s side.

“Matchmaker?” You asked, not really grasping the situation.

“I arranged a fake engagement between you and a boy named Inumaki Toge.”

You had no idea what you were in for.
