That's how much time had passed since Kanna had seen her big brother. They'd been walking home from a candy shop– “please! Kanna got a really good report card, see!? See?! Pleaseee!”–when Shin had gotten a chill down his spine.
“....Kanna.” Her big brother whispered, looking down at her with big haunted eyes, “Kanna, go back to the store. Now. Something’s–”
It was dark outside. Nearly pitch black, besides the light from the moon. On the dingy street they stood on, the street lights had been broken long ago and never yet to be fixed.
That's why neither of them quite realized how close the danger was to the pair. Because suddenly a hand was being slammed over Shin's mouth, yanking him down and backwards.

““It’s totally normal to think your friends are beautiful! Besides, if you could see, you wouldn’t shut up about how hot Zuko has gotten either!”
Zuko’s face flushes pink, and he tries to subtly hide his face with his hand.
“Wow, so it’s “hot” now?” Katara mutters to Aang.
“Well, you’re the only one talking about it, playboy, so even if I can’t see, I think it’s fair to say you have a massive crush on Zuko.”
Now, both Zuko and Sokka are turning red.
“Okay, maybe that’s going a little far,” Suki tried to interject, noticing the boy's obvious discomfort.
“Guys, we’re friends. There’s nothing weird about acknowledging that your friend is attractive,” Sokka says in a desperate attempt to recover.
And Zuko, sweet wonderful Zuko, in a misguided attempt to help adds, “Yeah, I think Sokka is hot too, so it’s fine.”

Now that Zuko knew what hunger was, he could see it everywhere. It was the combustion happening silently in leaves, grass, the heat on the back of his hands, the menace at the heart of the sun. Hunger was fire, eternal consumption. He had never understood his bending so well as he understood it now.
Or, for that matter, his father.
Zhao tortures Zuko. Song and Iroh try to make him whole. Dark-chocolate angst with a peanut-butter center.

Summary
"Jet was free and the boy was trying to recover from his broken nose, Jet tackles the blond with him sitting on his legs, preventing him from getting up.
He made many blows to the "poor" boy's face, he looked pathetic, disgusting and nasty mixed into a boring dish that was so tasteless nothing could fix the dish. He looked bland, unwanted and had the attitude of a loser.
All of this guided Jet's actions, what he heard from the teacher was this: upon finding Zuko he looked like he was pondering something, not a single word and it didn't even seem like he wasn't fazed by what happened and complied with the teacher and he's now in the nurse's office resting in bed, but he's not really saying much and looking at the window"
Summary:Jet has been Zuko's only friend, more familiar than family. A traumatizing event occurs during high school and Jet has problems at home that ends up with him leaving his best friend to deal with this on his own.
