Harry was dead. Draco stood on the steps into the school attempting to keep a neutral expression, but he could tell he was failing. He had done his best to avoid looking at the tall man that was carrying the limp figure of his boyfriend. He didn’t want to acknowledge it any more than he had to. He was blinking the tears from his eyes when he heard a gasp from the Lovegood girl standing behind him.
He looked up to see his boyfriend hit the ground and take off in a short sprint taking position beside the Longbottom boy. Draco watched as The Dark Lord and Harry threw insults back and forth for a moment before beginning to duel.
Almost as soon as the duel began he felt a hand on his shoulder. He turned to see his mother with a stone expression, though he could see sympathy in her eyes. She was the only other that knew of their relationship and was fully supportive. "Come now son, there's nothing we can do now other than wait." As they walked away his mother leaned in and whispered so his father could not hear. "I'll sneak you into the castle tonight and you can see him." He nodded and kept walking but as they rounded the corner, he heard the faint shout of an "Avada Kedevra" From the direction of the courtyard. He sucked in a sharp breath. Only the firm hand on each of his shoulders from either of his parents kept him from turning and running back to his love.
That night in the castle Draco raced towards the Room of Requirement knowing that if he survived his boyfriend would be waiting there for him. As he neared the room he took a deep breath ignoring the creeping fear that the room might be empty. He walked into the room and couldn't help the relief that flooded his system at the sight of the boy pacing in front of the fireplace. He let out a breath of relieve catching the Gryffindors attention.
"For a minute I thought you weren't coming." Harry said wide eyed, a glossy look to them. Draco ignored his remark, striding across the room to pull the other boy into his arms, and only then did he begin to cry.
He tucked his head into the Gryffindors neck sobbing as the other boy wrapped his arms tightly around the blond whispering in a soothing barley audible voice "It's okay Draco......Everyone's alright......We're okay......I'm here.....I'm not going anywhere I promise."
After awhile the blonde's sobs turned into quiet whimpers and Harry pulled them over to one of the long couches in the room. Harry laid down pulling Draco up onto his chest as the blond wrapped his arms around the other boys waist.
"I thought you were dead." The boy whimpered as the other ran his fingerers through his hair. "I know love, I'm sorry I didn't mean to scare you. You know it was Cissa who saved my life in the woods. Lied straight to Voldemort's face that I was dead." "Did she now?" The Slytherin asked, subdued now that he was in his boyfriends arms for the first times in months.
"Hey Draco?" The raven haired boy asked as he continued to run his hand through his boyfriends hair.
"Hm?" Was all he got in reply. "I Love you" he whispered but he suspected the boy had already fallen asleep. A few minutes later he heard a small voice speak up disproving his thoughts.
"Hey Harry?"
"Yes Love?"
"I love you too."
They laid there in silence for a few minutes, just basking in eachothers attention. Eventually Draco broke the silence.
"Do you promise this is real. That I'm not just making this all up in a dream?"
"What do you mean love?"
"You were gone for months Harry, I had no idea if you were alive, or dead in a ditch somewhere, and seeing you in that state at the mansion didn’t help matters at all," He sucked in a breath and the dark haired boy realized he was trying to keep himself from crying, "I was so scared."
They sat for a moment as Harry thought out his reply.
"I'm real I promise. All of it was real. I'm here."
"Will you still be here in the morning?" Draco asked, the lure of sleep invading his voice.
"I promise Draco, I'll still be here in the morning."
Harry sent a soft smile down to his love, and soon they were both asleep. Holding onto eachother in a secret room on the seventh floor of a magical castle.
