Remember

Summary:

Despite being psychic, Saiki had one problem he could never solve.
It's remembering his childhood.

Notes:

Hi! This is my first work on AO3 so bear with me while I try to get the hang of it.

Also, I'd just like to say this is my first time writing fanfic after like...3 years of not doing so? So I might be rusty^^

Also this is not proofread and might have grammatical error hehe

Enjoy~

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Having psychic superpowers, pretty sure everyone has dreamt of having them before. Like having invisibility, teleportation, and being able to read minds. Sounds fun right?

Wrong. So wrong.

Kusuo Saiki was the living breathing proof.

He’s up to par as a God, being able to control the weather, read minds, teleport anywhere he wants, the ability to fly, invisibility, mind control, name any power and he probably has it. Basically, he’s very powerful for a sixteen-year-old.

But alas, he is just a sixteen-year-old boy who has normal problems.

Not remembering the majority of his childhood is one of them.

It’s not because he doesn’t want to...it's just...he doesn’t remember.

Like at all.

A few memories sometimes flash through his mind like how he wasn’t able to visit the cinema as a kid or how he and Kusuke used to (and still) compete a lot with him.

Then there was his childhood friend, Akechi, he remembers bits and pieces of him like how he used to pee his pants in grade school, how he would get bullied and Saiki would have to protect him.

Ah, the memory that Saiki tries to bury deep into the back of his mind to forget but would always come back and haunt him.

It was back during grade school. Was it fifth or fourth? He doesn’t remember.

He doesn’t get it. Where are the happy memories? Why does he only recall little to none?

Why do I have to be unique?

Why can’t I just be like everyone else?

Why?

Why?

Why?

Those questions kept repeating themselves in his mind over and over again.
The inner voices of people from the outside didn’t help at all. He felt like his head was about to explode with all these thoughts running through his mind.

He’s had it. He wants to blame it all on someone. Anyone.

If the Gods knew how much of a hassle being a psychic was, why did they put all the burden on him?

Was it because they hated him? Do they not know how bad his headaches are every time he tries to sleep? Do they not know that the least they could do was to let him have a peaceful school life? To answer that question, probably.

That's right. It's probably the Gods’ fault all of this happened.

It’s all their fault I’m not able to watch movies at a cinema.

It’s all their fault I can’t see my friends’ faces without a green tint over them.

It’s all their fault I have powers.

It’s all their fault I wasn’t able to control my powers in grade school, resulting in genocide.

It’s all their fault I can’t remember my own childhood.

Saiki’s had it. He wants to experience a normal childhood too.

He wants to experience being yelled at by his dad at the dinner table at 9 PM because he wasn’t able to get a question right.

He wants to experience getting sick in bed and having his mom take care of him.

He wants to experience all those fun after-school clubs.

He wants to experience having a normal school day, struggle to do homework, barely pass a test unintentionally.

He just wants to have a normal life.

Is that really too much to ask?

His thoughts were interrupted when the doorbell rang. He was finally back in his room instead of his own thoughts. He quickly checked who it was using his clairvoyance.

Saiki sighed seeing who it was.

His friends were here.
Toritsuka, Aiura, Teruhashi, Kaidou, Nendou, Aren, Chiyo, Mera, also Hairo.

What were they all doing here? Saiki thought before teleporting to the front door to get it.

“Yo, buddy! Your brother told us you were at home today so we decided to visit.” Nendou greeted.

What a pain.

Saiki wanted to close the door on them when he remembered his mom’s scary face if he did that.

‘Come in.’

And now here we are, in the living room sitting together in a circle. Nendou was going through the shelves claiming his buddy ‘must be hiding’ some porno magz somewhere. Oh, Toritsuka’s helping too.

‘Stop going through the shelf, I literally have nothing there. Good grief.’ Saiki sighed.

“Buddy, there's no way you don’t own any-”

Just as Saiki was about to deny again, one of the photo albums his parents kept dropped.

It coincidentally opened a page with pictures full of him smiling and laughing. There were pictures of him playing water guns with his brother, a picture of him being fed chocolate jelly by his mom, a picture of Kusuo pulling his dad’s hair.

Was I really always this...happy? Saiki thought.

He continued to flip through the pages, forgetting he had company.

‘Saiki age 4, first errand :)’ It was a picture of him sitting on the counter with a bunch of bottles around him.

“You had a fun childhood huh, bro?” Aren teased Saiki.

“Saiki-kun, you were very cute as a child.” Teruhashi complimented.

“Saiki, you never told us about your childhood! Tell us some stories!” Hairo suggested.

Saiki froze before closing the album and putting it back in place.

‘That’s enough reminiscing. Why are you all here?’ Saiki asked.

“Well, remember when we said your brother told us you were home?” Kaidou scratched the back of his neck.

‘Yeah.’ He nodded, ‘Go on.’ Saiki didn’t like where this was going.

“Well, he said, you’ve been feeling down for the past few weeks so we came to visit, we’re sorry we didn’t notice before, Saiki!” Kaidou hugged Saiki as he sobbed dramatically.

Saiki had a shocked look on his face before placing back his stoic face.

‘Get off me, please.’ He communicated telepathically.

For some reason, everyone joined in on the hug.

Good grief, they’re all so dramatic. Saiki thought before pushing himself off.

He lightly smiled.

‘Thank you. Everyone.’

Then he was attacked by another hug from them all.

This time he didn’t push them off. He continued to smile.

Kusuo Saiki might not remember his past that much but he was happy currently so what was the point of trying to remember?

He doesn’t need to because, at the end of the day, he already has a...disastrous group in front of him, ready to make memories with them for the future.

He’ll be sure he won’t forget them.
