Work Text:
You leaned over your desk, meandering over a paper that was due at the end of the month. There wasn’t any rush, you’d dealt with everything that was due the next day- you were just trying to keep this pain in the ass assignment from sneaking up on you.
You leaned back in your chair, stretching and straightening your terrible shrimp shaped spine into something more passably human- and then, out of the corner of your eye, you spotted Leviathan, hovering in the doorway of your room and looking anxious. Now how long had he been there?
“Leviathan?”
Despite the fact that he’d been looking at you this entire time, it didn’t stop Levi from nearly jumping out of his skin; he recovered quickly before straightening his hunched shoulders, clearly steeling himself. “O-oh, hey!” Ah, he was trying for casual. “What’re you working on?”
You looked back towards you rough of a rough draft, brainstorming ideas and focal points on what you’d need to research. “You know that paper for devildom history?”
Leviathan gave a sympathetic pained noise before pausing a moment. He seemed to be hesitating. Hm.
You beckoned him closer, enthusiastic to show him what progress you’d made. It wasn’t much, but you were pleased with it.
Something was eating at him- you could tell, because it looked like something had reached into his chest and gave his heart a good squeeze; the look in his eyes as he met yours just as torn as it was fond.
Leviathan took a step back, excusing himself with, “Well, you seem busy, so I’m gonna just-”
“Are you really going to leave without asking me the question you’ve been dying to ask me?” Despite your amused tone, your face became flat as Leviathan retreated. You were getting a little fed up with your otaku, slithery as he was; time and time again, you’d be sure Leviathan knew how you felt, and that he’d finally be able to act on his own feelings, only for him to wriggle out of your grasp.
Leviathan’s retreating form froze. “W-w-what do you m-mean?” he asked, face becoming flush. There’s no way you knew, he told himself, silently berating himself for stuttering, for not leaving sooner, because now he was /stuck/, frozen in place as he desperately hoped you couldn’t tell he was blushing.
Unfortunately for the third born, you always thought it was cute to see Levi’s ears turn such a lovely shade of red. “What do you think I mean, silly boy?”
A lump formed in his throat, causing the sea snake to clam up. You’d just confirmed it- he was stupid. Too stupid to give you what you wanted, and too scared to tell you.
You gave him a moment, and then five more, before taking pity on him. If you’d given him a moment longer, he’d run off and avoid you until he’d built up his courage again. Luckily for you, he hadn’t had time to retreat very far; it was easy enough to reach out and take him by the wrist.
With a sharp enough pull, it was easy enough to knock him off balance and into your open lap. “There,” you murmured. “That wasn’t too hard, was it?”
Leviathan was the third eldest of the avatars of sin. He was so skilled in battle, that when the wars between Heaven and Hell ended, he didn’t know what to do with himself. When he’d fallen, he’s commanded an army of monsters so vicious, Diavolo had made him the admiral of hell’s navy on the spot.
All of this meant, he could easily break free, push you away from you- a fragile human-with no problem if he truly wanted to.
But here he was, frozen on your lap with a painfully hopeful look in his eyes.
You smile at your boyfriend, petting him as you wait for him to work up the courage to speak.
This only served to fluster him more- you could even feel his scalp warming up as you combed your fingers through his hair- but it seemed to help him settle all the more. It took a few minutes, but, despite your initial frustration with Leviathan, you found yourself feeling more patient.
Finally, he forced himself to look into your eyes and ask, “I-f you’re not t-too busy, a-and it’s okay if you are, I know you were in the middle of something important when I came in, but, but, Hellfire crevice’s multiplayer update just dropped so- Do you wanna play with me?!”
He finished the question with a strong flourish, yelling the tail end of it as he screwed his eyes shut, shoulders hunched as he dealt with mortifying ordeal of having his desires both be heard and possibly rejected.
You rewarded Leviathan by hooking an arm around his shoulders, pulling him close to press a kiss onto his forehead before saying, “Yes, definitely! Would you mind waiting here a moment to so I can get to a stopping point on this?”
Leviathan paused a moment, placing a hand over your nondominant hand and squeezing, his other hand rising to cover his happy grin as he hummed his shy assent.
