Chapter Text
It’s a high of 70 degrees in Waikiki this week, perfectly warm and Johnny thinks that it’s the optimal temperature because he much prefers the spring weather over the sticky and intense heat of the summer. Waikiki is gorgeous, with the beautiful landscape and pristine beaches just a few blocks away from their Airbnb, he has to give credit to Doyoung for choosing their spring break location this year.
Last year was nothing short of a disaster, much to Johnny fault for picking Italy. Despite the beautiful architecture and Johnny’s innate need to see the Sistine Chapel (because as an film/art major, it was a dream), he didn’t foresee the crappy weather conditions and how unfriendly they were to tourists when Jaehyun discovered that his wallet was stolen during their trip to the Colosseum.
Needless to say, Johnny is forbidden to choose their vacationing destination from then on.
And he isn’t even mad about it because he loves Waikiki, where the air is fresh compared to the smog problems in Los Angeles. He is going to savour his week on this island as much as possible before they eventually have to go back to being full time university students.
Johnny’s currently lounging in a beach chair in the back patio of the Airbnb that they’ve rented for the week. Another perfect choice courtesy of Doyoung because this cozy villa is just walking distance to all the local restaurants and shops and about a ten minute walk to the nearest beach.
The sun is warm on his skin, his eyes close behind his tinted Ray Bans as he soaks in the vitamin D. He hears Jaehyun and Doyoung inside as they get ready to go to a bar a few streets down and he opts to stay back for the night because he thinks the couple deserves an evening between themselves.
Johnny never was bothered by the idea of being a third wheel when it came to his best friends because they never left him out of anything. The three of them were friends for far longer before Jaehyun finally had the guts to tell Doyoung about his massive crush. Johnny always found them enduring, but there were times when he wanted to be alone and let them have their own fun.
He hears the screen door opening behind him, but he doesn’t bother opening his eyes when Jaehyun says, “Hey, we’re leaving in like 10 minutes. You sure you don’t want to come?”
“Nah, I’m good. Too comfortable to move anyways,” Johnny replies with a wave of his hand.
“It’s happy hour,” Doyoung says as the last attempt to get Johnny to join them. They know that Johnny just wants to give them their time together, but sometimes they feel bad about leaving him out of things, so they would also double check.
“I’m good,” Johnny reiterates with a chuckle, “Just go have fun. I’ll be fine.”
He feels a pat on his shoulder before the screen door shuts behind him, indicating that they’ve left. He sighs as he relaxes back into the lounge chair with the evening sun beating down on him, his skin flush with a pleasant warmth as he drifts into a nap.
When he wakes up, the sun has dipped past the horizon and the sky is tinted with a hue of red and orange. With a groan, he stretches to release the tension that has built up in his muscles for sleeping in the same position for over an hour. As if on cue, his stomach rumbles and he pushes himself up from the chair and pads into the house.
Jaehyun and Doyoung aren’t back yet, they probably won’t be back until midnight and they don’t have anything to cook with in the fridge. They only had breakfast foods that they brought from a bakery down the street, a gallon of milk, two cases of beer and a couple of wine bottles stashed in the back. So yeah, not a lot of choices.
Maybe he should have just gone out with those two if he knew he was going to be left with no food in their house. He pulls out his phone, sending a text to Jaehyun asking where they were and after a few minutes of no replies, he gives him a call that unfortunately went straight to voicemail. He did the same with Doyoung however, gaining the same results.
“Having that much fun without me, huh?” Johnny mumbles to himself. He gives up on contacting them and pulls the Yelp app up on his phone and with a few searches, he finds a nearby beachside bistro. The reviews seem good and the pictures of the food that were provided only serves to make him hungrier.
He slips on his shoes, making sure to grab his wallet before heading out. He checks the direction of where he’s walking to and notices that he can take a shortcut by walking along the beach.
It isn’t as hot as it was during the day, the evening comes with a gentle breeze that is much welcomed. As Johnny makes his way to the bistro, he takes his time enjoying the sounds of the waves crashing in the distance and the seagulls wading around on the sand. The seasalt in the air tickles his nose as he strolls down the beach.
He spots the bistro after a moment, the decorative lights surrounding the restaurant making it easier to locate. He steps down into the soft sand, taking a few steps and instantly regretting that he wore sneakers when the grains start getting inside his shoes.
As he gets closer to the bistro, he notices that it’s designed like a glorified shed, which in sense fits the whole Hawaiian theme that can easily attract tourists. The layout is kept quite minimal, where half of the seating is inside and the other half is out on an open patio. The pop music that is playing through the speakers is melding together with the conversations from the customers.
There isn’t many people there, maybe because it’s a Tuesday night, but the atmosphere is still lively and Johnny’s pretty sure the people that’s there are locals who come by frequently. As he steps inside, the air is saturated with countless scents from the alcohol and fried food that is available to consume.
He takes a seat in front of the bar, too awkward to sit in the table seating by himself and picks up a menu. They specialize in seafood paired with many different wines and alcoholic beverages, but they also have a section for bar food which consists of fried items and beer. He manages to flag a waitress down and places an order of pasta alle vongole with a white wine. Sure, it isn’t very Haiiwaiian but good food is good food.
As he waits for his dinner, he takes a look around the area. There’s a family sitting a couple tables away with a child that is obnoxiously loud, the mother shushing the boy every few minutes. Two girls were occupying one of the tables on the patio, posing for a selfie with the food that had just been served to them. And then a man that’s sitting in one of the booths alone, legs crossed as he glares at his phone.
Johnny must have been staring for a bit too long because the man probably senses the gaze and glances up. Before Johnny can even look away, he locks eyes with the male and his breath catches in his throat for a second because how can someone look this beautiful.
The man had his hair done up, pearl earrings adorning his ears with a matching necklace and a tailored blazer hanging from his shoulders paired with trousers. He looks somewhat out of place for a casual restaurant like this, but when he makes eye contact with Johnny, his expression changed from annoyance to amusement as he gave him a small smile.
Johnny panicked inwardly, embarrassed that he had gotten caught looking as a blush creeps up his neck. He looks away, hands reaching for the glass of cold water that the waitress had provided him and taking a big gulp.
Thankfully, he spots his waitress walking towards him with the food that he had ordered and he can finally sate his hunger. As the waitress places his dish down, he takes another chance to look at the man when he’s sure the other isn’t paying attention and notices that he isn’t frowning anymore as he takes a sip from his wine glass.
The first word that comes into Johnny mind when he laid eyes on the other is pretty. Like Johnny honestly hasn’t seen a man as pretty as the one sitting a few feet away from him and he doesn’t know why he’s thinking so hard cause all he’s here for is some dinner yet this attractive stranger is distracting him from his food.
Before he gets caught staring again, he looks down at his plate of food and wishes he’s sitting with the pretty man. As he eats, he can feel eyes boring into the back of his neck and it just makes it slightly harder to swallow. He gulps down his wine in two swigs, which he ultimately regrets when it goes down the wrong pipe causing him to cough.
Johnny hears giggles and he knows it’s coming from the man. He shakes his head, trying to get a clear mind as his waitress comes back to clear his plates. He gives a hoarse ‘thanks’ as she walks away and pulls out his phone to check the time. Jaehyun nor Doyoung hadn’t contacted him, which means they aren’t back home yet.
He has time to spare, as the night is still young. He figures he doesn’t have enough alcohol in his system as he waves at the bartender who’s cleaning out glasses. He orders a cocktail that’s sweeter than expected when he takes his first sip, but he manages to down the whole thing.
The bartender slides him another drink before Johnny can put in his next order. He looks at the drink in front of him then back up at the bartender, about to tell him he didn’t order this before the man points over his shoulder. His eyes follow the finger, which leads straight to the man who has been on his mind the moment he had sat down.
“Uhh?” Johnny mumbles out unintelligently.
The bartender sighs, can’t believe he has to explain the situation and honestly Johnny is just taken aback.
“From that gentleman over to your right.”
“Oh.”
Now Johnny’s heart is racing because does this mean he’s getting hit on? Why else would someone send a drink if not to flirt? He really doesn’t know what to do in this situation because to be fair, no one has ever been so direct with him and it’s really throwing him off. Should he get him a drink back or just accept it? Is this an invitation to go up and start a conversation? But what do they talk about?
Before Johnny can get a headache from trying to make sense of this situation that he’s unfortunately (fortunately?) thrown into, he hears the chair next to him being pulled out and he whips his head to find the man that has caught his interest sitting beside him.
“This seems more to your liking than that other drink you ordered,” the man states, head tilted to the side with a small smile on his lips.
Johnny swallows the lump in his throat as he takes the drink that is offered to him. Served in a snifter, the golden color of the drink really stands out and as he picks up the glass, the man next to him watches with intent. He takes a whiff first, noting the rich caramel that comes through before pressing the rim to his lips and taking a sip. It goes down easier than expected, the caramel flavor hits first with hints of vanilla coating his tongue after.
“Oh, that’s good,” Johnny hums. The man’s right, he definitely prefers this to the syrup filled cocktail that he had a moment ago.
“I know. It’s Koloa Rum, native to Hawaii.”
He notices the smile on the other’s lips widen as he rests his cheek on his palms. He can’t help but take in the gorgeous features in front of him, sharp eyes, a nice set of cheekbones, and beautifully bowed lips. His lips. Johnny is too focused on his lips because he can see the shimmery gloss that the man had applied, making them look fuller. The lips part and Johnny is so enraptured that he misses the words that are coming out of the other’s mouth.
Johnny blinks, feeling like he had just been hypnotized and he snaps out of it when he stutters out, “What?”
The other’s lips trembles like he’s holding back laughter when he repeats, “Taeyong. My name.”
A Korean, Johnny notes and he finally has a name that he can put to the face that he has been ogling at for the past hour and he’s quite delighted.
“Johnny,” he offers his name back.
“Well, Johnny,” Taeyong starts and Johnny already likes how his name sounds coming from his mouth. “What’s a guy like you doing here alone?”
Yeah, he’s definitely getting hit on.
Johnny counters with, “I can ask the same about you. Dressed up all nice and you’re here by yourself.” Johnny is genuinely curious and hopefully Taeyong will tell him.
“You think I look nice?” Taeyong asks, tucking a piece of hair behind his ear as if to accentuate his beauty and lure him in. “But I asked first.” There’s pout on his lips and if Johnny wasn’t smittened then, he sure is now.
“Didn’t want to third wheel my friends so I ended up here,” Johnny explains briefly.
Taeyong nods in understanding before he says, “I got stood up, if you’re wondering.”
That explains that fancy outfit and why he was glaring at his phone earlier. Yet Johnny can’t seem to wrap his head around the fact that a guy like Taeyong would get stood up. It didn’t sense, but then again, Johnny has spoken to him for about ten minutes and can’t really make a definite impression just yet. But, Taeyong seems nice and is absolutely gorgeous so it’s safe to say that it’s their loss.
“Sorry you got stood up. That must suck.”
Taeyong waves his hand to dismiss it. “Men here don’t keep their word. He promised me a good dinner and an even better night and look at me now.”
Johnny is definitely looking at him.
“Men are dicks,” Johnny mumbles as he takes another sip of his beverage.
Johnny’s skin tingles with the warmth that’s engulfing his system as he slowly drinks, not wanting to throw the drink back in fear of possibly weirding out the other. As the skies turn darker, the lights around the bistro seems to brighten and if Johnny really pays attention, he can hear the waves crashing in the distance. The wind has picked up just slightly, but the alcohol is keeping him warm and sated.
Taeyong laughs and Johnny notes how pretty Taeyong is when he throws his head back and his eyes crinkle. As Taeyong straightens up, he leans into Johnny’s space causing Johnny to flinch back, not expecting him to be so close all of a sudden. At this distance, Johnny can see how long Taeyong’s lashes are.
“But you’re not like those men, are you?” Taeyong asks almost in a whisper. His gaze is intense and it makes Johnny fidget. He feels Taeyong taking the drink out of his hand before a slim finger traces his palm and Johnny gulps, not entirely sure where this is going.
“I-I would like to think I’m not,” Johnny says, his voice cracking just a bit.
“Good,” Taeyong mutters as he inches forward like a tiger in front of its prey.
Johnny’s heart is pounding in his throat and maybe it’s the alcohol coursing through his veins, but he usually don’t kiss strangers that he just met a moment ago yet Taeyong smells so nice up close and he would be lying if he didn’t wonder how Taeyong’s lips would feel on his own.
They are mere centimeters apart, Taeyong’s breath ghosting his lips until he feels a buzz going off in his pants before his obnoxious ringtone that Jaehyun had set as a joke comes blasting through. It scares the both of them, shattering whatever moment that they were having as Taeyong jumps back and Johnny scrambles to grab his phone out of his pocket.
It’s Doyoung and Johnny curses inwardly at the name lighting up his screen for ruining a possible kiss between him and Taeyong. A part of him wants to ignore it cause they didn’t bother picking up his calls earlier, but Johnny isn’t that petty.
“Sorry, uh, it’s my friend. Let me see what he wants,” Johnny sighs and Taeyong nods.
Johnny offers him a weak smile before turning the other way and answers the call.
“Hey, what do you want,” Johnny bites out and he didn’t mean to sound annoyed, but he is.
“Woah, what’s up? Did I wake you up or something?” Doyoung says louder than normal. He can hear the music in the background, which must be the reason for why he’s speaking so loudly.
“Nah, I’m eating out right now.”
“Oh. I thought you planned on staying back.”
“Yeah, well. We didn’t really stock up on food back in the house,” Johnny reminds him.
He hears Doyoung hum before there’s a retching sound and a gasp.
“Oh shit. Yeah I need you to come and help. Jaehyun is wasted,” Doyoung groans.
“Ugh why? That should be boyfriend duties.”
“It’s also best friend duties,” Doyoung retorts.
“And you’re both.” Johnny knows that Doyoung is rolling his eyes right now.
“Just. Come here. I’ll drop the location.” And with that, Doyoung hangs up. Johnny huffs and a minute later a text pops up with the location that they were at. He closes his eyes and exhales, clearly not up for whatever is in store for him.
He turns back to Taeyong, who’s looking out into the beach, eyes soft and big as he takes in the view. Taeyong’s side profile is something else to marvel at, perfect like the rest of him and he almost didn’t want to disturb the other, but it’ll be wrong to leave without a word.
“Hey, uhm. I’m sorry, but my friends are having a problem and I have to go,” Johnny says as he pushes his phone back into his pocket.
“Oh, are they okay?” Taeyong asks, a concerned look on his face.
“Yeah! Yeah. Technically, one of them is puking his guts out so yeah, I need to go and make sure he doesn’t get banned from wherever he’s at.”
The pout is back on Taeyong’s face again as he says, “Well, I was having a good time.”
“O-Oh yeah. Me too.”
Taeyong probably can hear the disappointment in his voice as he replies, “Don’t want to keep them waiting, right?”
Johnny honestly doesn’t care how long they have to wait for him if he can get just a bit more time with Taeyong. He really didn’t want this to be the end. And maybe Taeyong heard his thoughts because when he gets up to pay for his meal, Taeyong grasps his hand and asks, “Are you free tomorrow night cause I would like to see you again.”
Johnny nods even though tomorrow night they’ve planned to go to Kalakaua Avenue, a shopping district with a vibrant waterfront route that Doyoung is dying to go to because apparently it’s a lot nicer in the evening. But it’s fine if he skips out right?
“Yeah I’m free.”
Taeyong’s lips quirk up into a smile as he says, “Great. Then meet me here around 8?”
“Cool.”
As Johnny walks off, he realizes how lame he must have sounded, but he couldn’t care less because he gets to see Taeyong again tomorrow and spend actual time together. Maybe this trip can get better.
-
Doyoung was slightly peeved when Johnny told them he wasn’t going with them on their shopping trip, but when Johnny mentioned the pretty stranger that he met the other night, Doyoung’s eyebrows shot up in interest.
“Oh? Someone caught your eye?” Doyoung's attitude changed from irritation to intrigue when he heard that someone actually flirted with Johnny without them being present.
Johnny scratched at the back of his neck as he replied, “I guess so. I plan on meeting him again tonight, so that’s why I can’t go with you guys. Sorry about that.”
Doyoung cocked an eyebrow and crossed his arm as he said, “We’re not responsible if you get kidnapped by some guy that you just met.”
Jaehyun waved him off and asked, “At least he’s cute right?”
Doyoung glared at his boyfriend, smacking his arm and chastised him for encouraging this.
“Yeah, he is. And I’m not gonna get in trouble,” Johnny had promised.
And now, he’s walking towards the previously agreed upon location as the sun gradually begins to set again. He’s giddy that he’s able to see Taeyong again today and hopefully he’s less stiff and awkward.
It’s much warmer today than it was yesterday, the heat from the sun still remains in the hot sand as he sinks his feet onto the beach. He walks in the direction of the bistro, the familiar twinkling lights drawing him forward.
As he gets closer, he looks around for the man that he’s supposed to meet. It’s nearing 8 pm and he’s not entirely sure if Taeyong meant to meet him in the restaurant or not, but he peers inside just to make sure.
He isn’t inside so Johnny opts to wait for him on the beach just a few steps down, checking the time every so often. Maybe he should have asked for his number last night, but he was in a hurry and too nervous to actually ask.
The minutes ticks by and Johnny’s slowly getting anxious that Taeyong might not actually show up. What if what he had said yesterday was just something to get his mind off of the fact that he had been stood up and in reality he isn’t really interested. But before Johnny can let his mind spiral and jump to conclusions, he hears from a distance, “Hey!”
He turns his head towards the sound and lets out a sigh of relief when he sees Taeyong running down the beach, almost tripping when his sandals get caught in the sand. When Taeyong reaches Johnny, he slows to catch his breath, hands on his knees.
Taeyong is dressed more casually today with a pair of shorts and a loose shirt that’s a bit too big around the collar. His hair falls naturally around his face, framing his features nicely. He looks completely different from yesterday, yet Johnny still finds him so charming.
“Hey. Thought you weren’t going to show,” Johnny confesses.
Taeyong laughs, “I wouldn’t do that to you.” He lifts up the tote bag in his hand that Johnny didn’t even realize that he’s holding because if he’s being honest, that isn’t the main focus. There’s also a blanket tucked under his arm.
“I went to get some beer.” Taeyong opens the bag and sure enough, there’s about six cans of beer in there.
“If I didn’t know better, I think you’re just trying to get me drunk,” Johnny jokes, offering to take the blanket from Taeyong so he can lay it down onto the sand.
There’s a quirk on Taeyong’s lips. “And if I am?”
Johnny shrugs, “Well, you’re drinking with me this time.”
“That’s the plan.”
The beach isn’t as crowded as it was during the day and the sky is clear with no clouds. It’s nice and Johnny can feel the warmth of the sand through the thin blanket as he and Taeyong sit down.
“I didn’t get to thank you for the drink yesterday,” Johnny says. “So, thank you.”
“Does that mean you owe me?” Taeyong asks.
“If you want me to.”
“I do.”
Taeyong reaches into the bag and pulls out two cans, holding one out to Johnny. He takes it, the can is cold with condensation and it feels good on his skin. He cracks open the can and takes a gulp, letting out a refreshing sigh after.
“So,” Johnny starts. “What brings you to Waikiki?”
Taeyong hums against the rim of the can before answering. “My parents have a summer house here. I come here once a year just to get away from things.”
“Things?”
“You know. Life in general. I get to take a breather,” Taeyong states simply.
Johnny understands as someone who is constantly drowning in school work, internships, and expectations that he needs to up hold, being able to get away from it all is much needed.
“How about you?”
“I’m only here for spring break, but I definitely understand your sentiment.”
“Ah you’re still in school.”
“Yeah. I go to university in LA. More opportunities there, I suppose.” Johnny’s parents at first didn’t want him going to LA for college, saying that Chicago has many great schools that he can attend, but he just felt that if he really wanted to pursue his dreams of being a film student, then California is the better choice. It took some convincing, but in the end, his parents finally allowed it.
“Are you still in school,” Johnny asks as he throws back more of the beer.
“Nah. Dropped out about a year ago. Wasn’t for me. Wanted to focus on my music,” Taeyong replies, looking out into the vast ocean.
Johnny perks up. “You make music?”
“Occasionally. But yeah, it’s something I’m passionate about.”
“I would love to hear it, if I get a chance,” Johnny says without thinking. He quickly dials it back as he stutters out, “You know… Only if you want to.”
Taeyong giggles and just shrugs his shoulders. “Maybe. Who knows.”
The evening went on as they sat on the beach, watching the sky turn different shades of orange until the moon is finally visible. They manage to finish all the beer and the alcohol is warming their bodies as the night comes.
Johnny looks over at Taeyong, who is flushed from the neck up. His head is lolling to the side as the neck of his shirt falls past his shoulder and he can almost see down his chest. Johnny swallows and quickly looks away.
He feels dainty fingers searching for his until there is a firm grasp on his hand.
“Hey,” Taeyong slurs. If anything, he's definitely a bit tipsy. “I wanna do something else.”
Johnny blinks and cocks his head at the other. “What do you want to do?”
Taeyong clambers over Johnny, nearly splaying across his lap and Johnny makes a surprised noise in the back of his throat. He notices that Taeyong is actually trying to grasp at the bag that is set next to Johnny and when he successfully grabs the bag, he pushes himself off Johnny, a palm pressing a bit too close to his crotch as he gets back up. Johnny coughs and adjusts himself.
Johnny didn’t think there was anything else in the bag until Taeyong reached a hand in the inner pocket of the tote and pulled out a small container and a stack of rolling paper.
“You smoke, right?” Taeyong asks as he places the items on the blanket between them.
Oh. Johnny didn’t know what he was expecting, but it isn’t this. Not that he minds though because yes, he does smoke. When he needs some relief from piles of assignments, he would roll one. His previous dorm room was heavy with the smell of cannabis and he was thankfully a close friend of the RA that he had gotten away with it.
“Uhm yeah, I do,” Johnny replies.
“Great. It’s been kinda boring doing it myself.”
Taeyong takes a sheet of rolling paper and sets it down before unscrewing the container that is filled with finely ground cannabis. It isn’t the best place to be rolling a joint with the wind and sand all around them and with minimal lighting but Taeyong makes due as he fills the paper with the weed. He’s slightly uncoordinated because of the alcohol, but he packs and rolls like a pro.
Johnny watches in fascination as the man in front of this carefully rolls it up until the edge. The tip of his pink tongue peaks out from his lips and Taeyong’s eyes flicks up at Johnny and doesn't look away when he licks the top edge to seal the joint, then twisting the end. Johnny shivers and he’s not sure if it’s because it’s getting a bit chilly.
“Here. For you.” Taeyong flashes him a smile, handing the joint to him.
“T-Thanks.”
Taeyong fishes out a lighter and flicks it open before holding it out for Johnny. He puts one end in his mouth and leans forward to light the other end. As Taeyong pulls the lighter away, Johnny lightly sucks, watching the end burn slowly when he inhales.
It’s been a while, but the familiar smoke enters his mouth, the strong earthy and herbal taste coating his tongue and throat. He exhales with a puff and passes it to Taeyong who takes a drag.
“Fuck. That’s nice,” Taeyong breaths out and Johnny agrees. He feels lighter than usual, with Taeyong pressed to his side and the waves crashing in front of them. The sky has darkened by then, the only light is from the bistro in the back.
They pass the joint between themselves, the heady smell filling their nostrils and all Johnny can think of is how good it is to have Taeyong’s body warmth right next to him, his head placed on his shoulder. He tilts his head up to gaze at the star filled sky, bright and welcoming.
When he turns to look at Taeyong, his cheek is pressed against his shoulder as he looks on the ocean. He watches as his lips part, a cloud of smoke blowing out from his mouth and Johnny is suddenly reminded of last night with how close Taeyong had gotten, those plush lips so dangerously close to his that he could almost taste it. And he wants it, he desperately wants to. To feel how close Taeyong is.
Taeyong probably senses Johnny tilting his head down because he looks up at him, his eyes a little red and unfocused. The air is stiff between them and Johnny can only hear white noise buzzing in his ears as he carefully and slowly closes the gap between them.
Johnny’s eyes flutter close and there’s only mere millimeters between their lips before Taeyong suddenly jumps up causing Johnny to fall back in shock.
“W-What!” Johnny exclaimes, startled.
“I want to swim!” Taeyong declares loudly.
Johnny looks at him bewildered and watches Taeyong chucks his shirt over his head and tosses it carelessly onto the sand. Johnny chokes on his saliva when Taeyong starts pushing his shorts down, going completely naked in front of him with no shame.
“Hold on, Taeyong -“ Johnny’s cut off as Taeyong starts pulling him up by his arms to get him standing.
“Let’s swim together, Johnny,” Taeyong grins. He’s trying to pull the shirt off of Johnny, but it only results in him getting tangled. Taeyong falls into a fit of laughter as Johnny untangles himself and drops his shirt. When Taeyong recovers, he looks at Johnny and whistles.
“Wow. Someone works out,” Taeyong comments, clearly impressed with Johnny’s physique. And maybe it’s because Taeyong’s a combination of tipsy and high, yet he reaches out to trace Johnny’s abdominal muscles with his fingertips causing him to jolt at the sudden touch.
Taeyong falls silent as he admires Johnny’s body and Johnny just stands there, a bit bemused but he doesn't stop him as his finger traces lower until it hits the waistband of his pants which seems to pull Taeyong out of his trance.
Taeyong shakes his head as if to clear his mind before pointing at his bottoms and saying, “Gotta take those off if you don’t want to get them wet.”
And if Johnny had a clear mind, he wouldn’t be getting butt naked with some person that he had met the day before, but Johnny’s head is foggy and Taeyong isn’t just some person, so he pushes his own shorts off and Taeyong cheers.
“Yay! Now, come! Come,” Taeyong beams in excitement, pulling Johnny’s arm so he follows him to the sea. As Johnny stumbles behind an eager Taeyong, he tries his best to not stare at his ass.
He’s thankful that it’s dark now and nobody is out this far on the beach. His feet came in contact with the wet sand, indicating that they’re near the water. In hindsight, this is dangerous, getting into the water at night with no lifeguard around while they’re both intoxicated, but Johnny really can’t care right now.
Taeyong’s tugging his hand and when they step into the water, it’s freezing and Taeyong squeals loudly but doesn’t stop walking in. Johnny takes a few timid steps until Taeyong lets go of his hand and starts splashing water in his direction. Johnny gasps as the cold spray of water hits his bare skin and the goosebumps automatically rises all over his body, but Taeyong’s looks like he’s having the time of his life.
Taeyong laughing, loud and clear, his smile almost as bright as the stars above them and Johnny’s heart starts to pick up, beating harshly against his rib cage. He’s bobbing in the water, not even swimming and Johnny is quite surprised at how quickly Taeyong became acclimated to the water temperature.
He starts flicking the water back at Taeyong, hands cupping to gather the salty seawater in his palms before tossing the water at Taeyong. It lands right in his face and Johnny’s eyes widen before he laughs at the stunned expression on the other’s face.
The childish water fights begin as they go back and forth and Johnny is sure he drank too much seawater at this point. Taeyong dips his head into the water before throwing his head back, getting his wet hair out of his face and Johnny isn’t sure if it’s because he’s high, but everything goes into slow motion. The way the water trickles off of Taeyong, the way he tosses his head back, his hair flying behind him, the moonlight shining on him making each water droplet sparkle.
God. Johnny feels as if the breath has been stolen from his lungs.
Taeyong’s smooth skin glistens and Johnny has the urge to touch. To trace his collarbone, down his arms to grasp hold his tiny waist. He wonders how Taeyong will fit in his arms, how soft his body will feel against his and he’s completely lost in his own little fantasy until Taeyong sneezes and shudders which brings Johnny back to reality.
“I think we should get out of the water,” Johnny says above the rippling sounds of the sea.
Taeyong groans and juts his lips out. “But we’re having fun.”
“I know. We are! But what if you get sick.” Johnny would feel horrible if Taeyong got sick because of this.
“No I won’t. It’s fine!” Taeyong reassures him, but his sniffling says otherwise.
Johnny shakes his head, circling his fingers around Taeyong’s small wrist and making him get out of the water. Taeyong grumbles under his breath, his steps faltering behind him as he follows Johnny out and back onto the sandy grounds.
They make it back to their blanket and then Taeyong’s dropping down onto the sheet, pulling Johnny down with him. He lands on his ass and he’s thankful that it’s just sand underneath him.
Taeyong maneuvers them, his own limbs uncoordinated and sloppy, but he manages to get comfortable as he snuggles right into Johnny’s chest. Johnny’s not sure if this is the best position because he’s afraid that Taeyong can hear how loudly his heart is pounding. But Taeyong didn’t seem to notice or he’s too out of it to care as he presses his cheek to Johnny’s pec.
“I like you Johnny, you’re fun,” Taeyong mumbles against his skin. Johnny wills his heart to beat slower because he thinks he might throw up if it goes any faster. He knows that Taeyong didn’t mean it like that and he shouldn’t get his hopes up, but the “I like you too” tumbles out of his mouth softer than expected and he’s not sure if Taeyong picks it up and it’s fine if he didn’t.
“Stay with me,” Taeyong says and Johnny knows that this is just an in-the-moment thing and they’re both high and drunk but he can’t help it when he wraps his arms around the other’s body.

Johnny doesn’t remember falling asleep, but he wakes up to blinding light and an awful taste in his mouth. He groans, wanting to stretch his arms but realizes that he can’t because Taeyong is using one of his arms as a pillow.
Taeyong.
The previous events of last night come flooding back into his brain and he grimaces at the fact that they really went out into the sea naked. Speaking of which, he looks down between them and sure enough, they’re still naked.
He almost didn’t process the fact that it’s morning and that there is chatter going around them. Taeyong isn’t awake yet as he is snoring softly besides him and Johnny doesn't have the heart to wake him up but as his sleep muddled brain starts to clear up, he begins to realize the urgent situation that they’re in.
He had forgotten that they’re on the beach and the chatter is from the people surrounding them. He glances up and he sees several people looking at them in equal amounts of concern and disgust. He curses as he scrambles to wake Taeyong up who bats him away tiredly and mumbles out, “Five more minutes.”
“No, Taeyong! We don’t have five minutes,” Johnny hisses. He quickly grabs the discarded clothes that’s scattered around them and he manages to get his briefs on until he notices from the corner of his eye that two police officers were walking directly towards them.
“Fuck.”
