Chapter 1: who are you?

Chapter Text

Chayoung didn't know how to react to the strange men standing next to her, his presence inspired fear in others but her-she was deathly curious to figure him out. Why would an arrogant Italian lawyer want to settle in a rundown building like Gegum Plaza? or more importantly why would her father ever consider working with him given how protective he is of the annoying tenants whose antics resembled more of a circus act than a respectable place.

Vincenzo Quassano? — she repeated after him, what a name, he glared at her for butchering it but before he could correct her the thug he was dealing with lunged in for an attack, the wannabe gangster was once again harassing the tenants, she was sure her boss was involved in it, Babel and co. would kick a puppy if that gave them an advantage and then make her frame the puppy for stepping in their way.

She was proud of being the undefeated lawyer who kept all the shit behind the scenes locked tight but her motivation for winning was more out of spite of everyone who doubted her than being a good lawyer, a "good" lawyer she was not as her father would reminding her every time they butted heads in court. As he was the one to talk, every time she thought about it her resentment grew stronger, she was mad he cared more about being a good lawyer than being a father or a husband. She didn't understand why would he keep fighting a lost fight, why were they worth the effort while he couldn't see how much his own family needed him, if that what it took to be a "good" lawyer she would rather rot in hell.

After witnessing their mafia showoff spectacle in all its glory she ran after him as quick as her pencil skirt allowed her, he looked good even from behind, stylish impeccable suit and hair perfectly in place, after spending her days with old condescending businessmen he was definitely a sight for sore eyes. When she questioned his motives he pushed back, and while she wasn't looking for a fight she rather enjoyed getting a rise out of people, especially if they looked so good angry. She stared at him challenging his words, he stepped back surprised she didn't run away like those cheap gangsters just did. He was a mystery she was eager to unravel and not even the man himself could stop her.
