Work Text:

On nights like these where sleep evaded him, Kaito would usually find himself out in the cool night air under the stars, watching them twinkle with nothing but the soft light of the moon to keep him company until either he returned to the comfort of his bed, or he fell asleep in the grass with only his jacket to keep him warm.

However, that was made difficult by the tight grasp of his sleeping girlfriend, keeping him anchored to the bed. He doesn’t mind that though - it’s a nice change of pace. Maki is not particularly affectionate, so he appreciates the rare chances he gets to hold her like this. Or rather, she’s the one holding him. Her arm was wrapped tightly around his torso and her face was buried in his chest while his arm draped loosely across her waist in reciprocation.

She was so small like this, and she fit so perfectly in his arms. It was as if whatever celestial being created them made them for each other, to slot together like two pieces of a puzzle.

He gently ran his fingers through her hair that draped across the mattress behind her, but froze when she stirred for a moment, worried that his soft affections had awoken her, until she snuggled in closer to him. Maki was a light sleeper who often woke up at small disturbances during the night, so he wasn’t worried that she would be upset if he accidentally woke her, but rather he felt that she deserved at least one night of uninterrupted rest. But perhaps more selfishly, he wanted more time to admire her like this. So vulnerable and soft, the side of her that was reserved only for moments like this, held tightly in her lovers arms.

He supposed the stars could wait for another night, after all, he already had a star in his arms.
