Chapter Text

It all started with a small giggle, a sudden, barely noticeable giggle that changed the mood of the room in an instant, It was as if a paper was suddenly ripped apart, sending an earthshattering jolt reverberating through the very souls of three particular people.

Kyouka Jirou does not giggle, Mina Ashido was perfectly aware of that.

Kyouka Jirou does not giggle, Momo Yaoyorozu understands that.

Kyouka Jirou does not make girlish noises, Denki Kaminari was perfectly made aware of that.

Never once in their life had they imagine such feminine voice leak through the very mouth of their snarky and cold classmate. So imagine their surprise one morning when the trio came to the fact that Kyouka Jirou, was in fact giggling .

It was a normal weekend in the dorms of UA High, Kaminari, in a rare moment of diligence, has woken up earlier than usual, and instead of lazing around in bed had opted to join Momo and Mina for breakfast. The vice president was used to early mornings, having being raised in a prim and proper matter due to her status; Mina, on the other hand occasionally had random bursts of energies that cause her to wake up earlier than expected.

The common area was rather calm as the louder ones of their bunch were either training outside or still in their rooms, the only soul beside them was Jirou, who could be found lounging on the couch, apparently busy with her phone as the trio simply enjoyed their meal.

The sole fact that Jirou was up early should have set at least one of them off, because by no means Jirou was an early person, and the three of them were perfectly aware of said information; Kaminari, in particular, had the unfortunate luck of facing her wraith on rather early morning when he accidentally mentioned her slight bed hair. The encounter had led him scarred for life and served as a reminder to never piss Jirou off in the mornings cause god help whoever who dares to do so.

During that moment they merely chalked Jirou’s rare morningness as a rare occurrence, seeing that it was similar to Kaminari’s situation. The trio was making small talk before the undeniable sounds of girlish laughter sliced through the air like a sharp blade. As if on cue, the three of them froze in sync, their entire body coming to an abrupt halt as their heads slowly turned towards their friend who suddenly perked up looking like she had done something extremely scandalous. It was a short giggle, but they had clearly heard it and was staring at her with the most incomprehensible look as if the purple-hair girl just announced that she hates rock and was never going to touch any musical instruments ever again.

Said girl looked around frantically for a few seconds, and by some miracle failed to notice the only three people that were currently burning a hole into her back with how hard they’ve been staring before resuming her previous action, now with a small blush dusting her cheeks.

It took a moment for the trio to shake off their initial shock, but when they eventually broke out of their apparent daze, the trio immediately huddled together, their already soft voices toning down to harsh whispers.

“Please tell me you guys heard that too,” Kaminari whispered frantically, his eyes filled to the brim with panic, “I never knew she was even capable of making that sound!”

“Don’t be rude!” Mina lightly smacks the blonde’s head, frowning slightly, “she’s a girl too y’know, I’m more curious about what made her giggle like that, she sounded sooo cute!” she silently giggled, her brain already coming out with multiple theories on what could possibly make her friend act like that.

“While I must admit I was momentarily stunned by Kyouka’s out of character outburst, I think it’s best if we keep this to ourselves,” Momo, the voice of reason, stated calmly, “judging by her reaction it must be something private for her, and I would advice to not pry any further.”

“Aww...you’re no fun Yaomomo…” Mina fake ‘hmphed’ as she crossed her arms, pouting, “but I see your point...she isn’t exactly the type to keep her cool when being teased so I’ll put it aside for now. But this doesn’t mean that this is over, alright?” she said to the two, who merely sighed, already used to her antics.

Little do they know, this was just the start of a massive discovery about a secret that their classmate had hidden from them.

Their second encounter with Jirou’s weird antics was precisely a week later. Iida had taken it upon himself to organize an impromptu study session in the common halls, seeing that their exams are less than a month away. A number of his classmates, mainly Kaminari and Mina, had groaned towards the sudden proposal, saying things like ‘I don’t wanna study on weekends!’ or ‘exams are still far away!’; Some, like Bakugo and Kirishima, weren’t present due to the fact that they were out training. In the end, only Tsuyu, Ochako, Toru and surprisingly, Mineta, ( “I study too!” the grape boy huffed when astonished gazes were received from his peers). The unexpected study group was halfway through their studies when the doors to their dorms opened.

“Ah, Jirou-san!” Iida was the first to speak up, recognizing the girl who walked through almost instantly, “Would you care to join us on our diligent study session to better prepare ourselves for the upcoming tests?” he announced stiffly, a hand in the air, hoping the girl would accompany their impromptu group; after all, the more the merrier right?

Imagine his surprise when Jirou trailed on, as if she had never heard him at all; which is the least possible since the girl literally possessed a hearing quirk. “...Jirou?” Iida called out to her once again, gaining and shifting the attention of the group towards the purple-haired girl as she trudged on, unaware of her surrounding. Like a mindless corpse, Jirou simply shuffled up the stairs rather clumsily and disappeared from view, not before a few of them managed to discern lingering traces of pink evident on her cheeks.

The whole group was silent for a moment, their minds haven’t fully caught up with the strange antics of their friend before Tsuyu spoke up, “Is it just me, kero, or is Jirou looking kind of giddy?”.

As if a button was pressed, Toru squealed loudly, “Boyfriend!” followed by Iida’s shushing sound, bringing his signature hand-chop down as it hovered inches above the table, “While I do find Jirou’s behavior slightly concerning, I would advise you to keep it down!”

“Oh hush you,” Toru mock glared at him before turning her attention towards the rest, “I’m sure all of you had just seen how she looked right? Mina had told me about something similar happening before! There’s definitely something up with our purple friend and I’m fairly certain that the answer is l-o-v-e!” she sang the last part, the sleeves of her shirt expressing her ecstatic emotions.

Ochako slightly sweatdropped as she tried to calm the invisible girl down, “I agree that Jirou’s behavior had been...strange, but it’s rude for us to suddenly bother her with it y’know...”

“I agree, kero,” Tsuyu piped up, “while I am curious, we shouldn’t pry further unless she came to us herself,” she stated.

“Plus, judging by her expression earlier, something good must have happened to her, kero, I’m sure it’s not a big deal.”

“Not a big deal !?” despite not being able to see her face, they could tell that Toru was on the verge of exploding, “You’re telling me that the normally cool and collected Jirou having that kind of expression is not a big deal !?”

“Oh won’t you leave it alone?” surprisingly it was Mineta who ended the argument, “I thought we were here to study?” he jotted down a few more lines on his book before sensing all the attention focused on him.

“What !? I wanna get good grades too!”

Unfortunately for Mina and Toru, the next juicy incident about Jirou happened a month later. The two girls had been pestering the punk rock girl about hints or answers to no avail; granted that they never went to the extreme due to the disapproval of other girls.

So imagine their surprise when Jirou came down the stairs one morning, wearing an oversized shirt that was clearly not hers.

It was a rather late morning, and most of the class were enjoying a lazy breakfast when said girl stumbled down the stair, making her way towards the common room begrudgingly and grabbing a box of cereal before heading back up, muttering barely audible greetings to her classmates along the way. Most of them had not questioned the girl’s grumpy demeanor, already familiar with how the girl acts in the morning. However, it was only when Jirou was approaching the stairs when Mina noticed something different.

“Jirou?” the pink-haired girl asked almost tentatively, earning a small grunt Jirou who turned to face her, “what?”

She slowly pointed towards the girl’s chest “That...isn’t your hoodie, is it?”

Jirou’s hair was slightly rustled, probably due to the fact that that she had just woken up, but that wasn’t what Mina wanted to focus on.

Currently covering most of her body was an All Might themed hoodie that was obviously way too big for her size, shown by the fact that the collar part of the hoodie showed a little too much skin, exposing much of her collarbone as the lopsided fabric threatened to fall off her left shoulder. The bottom of the clothing covered most of her thigh, almost hiding the fact she was wearing shorts underneath. As many of her classmates were catching on, they also realized that the sleeves of the hoodie were so long they covered her arms entirely, the extra parts flailing around in the air; the box of cereal was grabbed through the sleeves, some of them noted, finding the action cute.

There’s was also the fact the Jiro was never known for owning All Might merch, let alone All Might clothes.

“Huh?” it took a few seconds for Jirou Kyoka’s half-awake mind to fully register Mina’s question. But when it eventually does, two things happened at once.

The first was that Jirou’s face lit up like a Christmas light on display, her extreme embarrassment shown on every surface of her face, even affecting her quirk at her earphone jacks went rigid as they had just experienced strokes. She quickly adjusted her hoodie and tried and failed to cover herself with her hands, glaring at her surroundings with mortification.

The second was that Mina and Toru squealed, loudly , so loud that people with hearing quicks like Jirou and Shoji flinched slightly at the high-pitched sound.

“Who-”

“Is it you boyfriend-”

“Tell us-”

Many questioned aroused at once, all targeting the poor girl as she looked in horror onto the onslaught that is Mina and Toru.

Then, like any sensible person, she ran.

“I-It’s none of your business!” she stumbled through her words. “But Jirou-” Toru began but was quickly shut up by Jirou’s glare as she pointed her earphone jacks menacingly, “Not. A. Word.” she growled, eyeing each and every member currently present before hurrying up towards her room, her blush never quite leaving her cheeks.

As the sounds of her storming footsteps slowly fade, Mina turned towards her classmates, an excited grin evident on her face, “Alright, you have to admit that there’s something Jirou’s keeping from us!”

“And that something is probably her boyfriend!” Toru piped in, seemingly in sync. “She’s been hiding her boyfriend from us for the past few months, I knew it!”

“We’ve gone through this many times already, if Jirou wanted to tell us, she would have done so ages ago,” Momo sighed in exasperation, “she must have been keeping this a secret for a reason, and we shouldn’t pry any further.”

“Well, I’m pretty sure she’s just too shy to announce it,” Mina huffed, “besides, something tells me that you knew about this all along!”

Momo simply shrugged innocently, “Even if I did, I wouldn’t be telling.”

“Urgh!” Toru’s sleeves flapped around as if she was pulling her hair out, “That’s it! Next time something like this pops out again, I’m going to be following her to discover the truth! I can’t believe Jirou had been hiding a secret relationship under my nose!”

Our noses,” Mina corrected.

Kaminari simply sighed as he resumed his breakfast, not wanting to take part in any of this mess.

Fortunately for the duo, the chance to finally resolve the mystery once and for all had presented itself during a school day. It was two months after the ‘boyfriend shirt’ incident, which Mina affectionately dubbed, and the matchmaking duo had managed to discern a lead that would bring them closer to their goals.

Said lead was currently fidgeting in her seat, her earphone jacks clicking impatiently as she glanced at the clock every few seconds.

“Look at her, she’s practically unable to contain herself!” Toru whispered, huddling herself closer to the pink-skinned girl as they gathered at a corner of the classroom so that they won’t be heard. While there’s no escaping the purple-haired girl’s enhanced hearing, said girl was also currently too distracted to notice the whispering behind her back.

“I know right? If our sources are right, she’ll be meeting you-know-who after class!” Mina whispered back excitedly, almost jumping out of her seat.

“Who are your sources?” Kirishima asked awkwardly beside the girls as he listened in, while he finds the act of prying into his classmate’s love life not manly, a part of him couldn’t help but feel curious.

“Shhh, it’s a girl’s secret!” although he couldn’t physically tell, he was sure that the invisible girl had just winked at him. “Just...try not to go overboard?” he pleaded slightly towards Mina who looked at him with mock offense, “Kiri, when had I ever gone overboard?!”

He was about to mutter ‘most of the time’ but the bell had unfortunately interrupted his retort, the ringing traveled throughout the classroom as it signaled the end of classes. With a few words from their homeroom teacher, Eraserhead, the students began to make their way out of the classroom, with Jirou obviously making headway as she dashed out of the door, ignoring Iida’s shouts of “no running in the hallways!”

“C’mon!” Toru exclaimed excitedly as she and Mina follow after the punk girl, grabbing Momo along the way as the rich girl looked towards for help before being forcefully dragged out of the classroom. Kirishima could only sigh as he began to pack his bags, hoping that things would not take a turn for the worse.

“Where could she be going?” Toru wondered anxiously as they exited the classroom, just in time to see the end of Jirou’s jacks disappear into another classroom. The trio sneakily approached said classroom, pausing outside the door to see the giant words of “1-B” etched onto the massive doors.

Before they could question anything, the large door suddenly opened, surprising the three of them before Midnight stepped out of the classroom, slight shock plastered on her face as she addressed her students before it turned to a sultry grin. She motioned to the classroom behind her.

“I don’t tend to interfere, but your friend had been driving me so crazy I had to do something,” the R-rated heroine smiled as she walked away, her high heels making audible ‘clicks’ as they make contact with the cement floors, “but do try to be gentle with them, they can be easily spooked.”

It was after Midnight left when they decided to have a look into what their teacher was referring to. Pushing open the doors slightly, the three of them found the classroom of 1-B to be empty, aside for Jirou and a boy they’ve never seen before.

The boy sat at one of the further desks in the classroom, his freckles face grinning at Jirou as Mina noted the boy’s green fluffy hair to be on-par or even messier than hers.

“Hey,” the boy greeted softly to the purple-haired girl as Mina had to bite back a gasp as she had never expected his voice to be so… gentle. She could vaguely feel Toru melting above her just by hearing the boy’s voice. There’s something about his voice that feels comforting as if she was slowly covered by a warm blanket.

“Hey you,” Jirou replied in a softness that neither Mina nor Toru expected. She approached the boy, her finger twirling her jacks tentatively, “how was your mission?”

“It went well,” the boy smiled apologetically, “sorry for not contacting you for the past few weeks, Edgeshot had restricted our communications since it was supposed to be an undercover mission.”

“No I understand,” Jirou replied as she surveyed the empty classroom, twirling bashfully, “where are the others?”

“Oh, they’ve gone back already, I was just catching up with Midnight sensei on missed classes.”

She nodded, staring at him for a while before muttering gently, “I missed you.”

He raised an eyebrow teasingly, “Oh? Is that why I returned yesterday to find some of my shirts missing?”

Jirou blushed a crimson red as her jacks flailed around, “Shut up…” then, in a move that shocked even Momo herself, plopped herself onto the lap of the green-haired boy as if it was the most natural thing in the world to do, “I can’t help it...it’s your fault for leaving so abruptly.”

“If it makes you feel better, I missed you too,” he chuckled lightly as Mina slightly fumed at the scene in front of her. No, she was not jealous about the fact that Jirou had managed to snag herself a cute and gentle boyfriend-

The boy smiled gently at the rocker girl as he nuzzled his head softly on top of her’s.

Okay, maybe she was a little jealous.

“But before that,” the boy’s gentle voice suddenly rang out, “I think we should address our visitors,” he said as he moved his hand slightly, and before they knew it, the door Mina and co. had been leaning against suddenly jerked open, causing the three of them to lose balance and stumble into the classroom.

“MINA? TORU? YAOMOMO? What are you guys doing here?” Jirou stood up almost immediately, the pinkness in her face once again erupting into a full-time blush as she hissed slightly, “ don’t tell me you guys were spying-”

Before she could go off the boy stood up and came up behind her, placing a hand on her head which seemed to calm her down as he ruffled it slightly, “Kyo’s classmates I assume?

( “He calls her Kyo!” Toru almost screamed but was immediately silenced by Mina and Momo)

“I’m sorry but could you guys leave us alone for the time being? You can dig the information out of her afterwards when we’re done catching up.” he smiled, rather sheepishly, as he looked at the three. Taking a closer look Mina could tell that the boy was a head taller than Jirou, and had shivered slightly under his warm yet firm gaze.

Before neither of them could say anything, Momo immediately spoke up, “Of course, Midoriya! I’m really sorry about them, they were curious about Jirou and I couldn’t stop them.” In front of them, said girl was currently glaring at the Mina and Toru while her jacks pointed at them menacingly, one word to the others and you’re dead meat , was all that she was trying to convey.

“It’s alright,” Midoriya smiled, “We just needed some alone time, that’s all.” Momo apologized once again before dragging the two girls out of the classroom, closing the doors along the way. After making sure her classmates had left, Jirou buried her face into Midoriya’s chest in embarrassment, “they’ll never let me live this down…”

Midoriya could only chuckle sympathetically as he patted her head slowly.

Later that night, the girls hogged  Jirou relentlessly until she spilled finally the beans. They learned that:

  1. Midoriya Izuku was the vice president of class 1-B.
  2. He and Jirou had been childhood friends who had reunited in UA.
  3. He and Jirou currently are not going out.

The reaction from the girls might have caused a slight tremor in the dorms when the last information was revealed.
