Summary:

Being popular was never easy as anyone thought, and Sage was the living proof of it. While students made fun of her, a person had enough tolerating such actions and steps in for her girl.

Notes:

Note that they're in 12th grade, Sage being on class A and Jett on C that's why they don't meet as early in the beginning.

Work Text:

As the vice president of the student council, Sage would find it very hard to have a normal life of studying. Even though she's not the president, alot of people are into her because of her looks, personality and charming features. She has been onto a lot of rumors, and some of which getting a lot terrible than the other. Her admirers increased each day. Well, that is to be expected for her. And the letters on her locker were countless.

"Cariño you look so stressed, what's the matter?" Reyna asked before she put a coin onto the vending machine and waited until it dropped a can of her favorite apple soda.

Even when Sage 'looked' stress, she was still adorable, and it resulted for Reyna to let out a few stiffled chuckles as she watched the vice president pout her lips. Sage playfully hit Reyna's arm before she leaned onto the wall.

"Have you seen the latest rumor lately?" said Sage before she reached onto the pocket of her skirt, taking her phone and looking for the so called rumor.

Reyna raised a brow, opening the can and sipping from it before she spoke "Not yet really, but what about it? You usually don't let yourself get stressed about those things."

Sage only pouted even more, she showed the photo over at Reyna, the Secretary had to squint her eyes to see it a lot clearly. It was a photo of Sage and the President, Sova. Kissing. It was clearly photoshopped, but it seemed too real that even Reyna choked onto her drink.

"See what I mean...?" Sage sighed before she closed her phone and tucked it back onto her skirt.

Reyna coughed a few more times, clearing her throat and wiping her mouth "These people really have the worst beef with you. Don't worry corazon, they're just jealous of you. A little too jealous if you ask."

As the two proceeded to walk over to the Canteen, they heard a few students talk about Sage. Mostly the ones who hated her a lot even when majority loved her. Reyna only stared at them as they passed by them. Scaring them with her deadly glare until they stopped talking. As they reached the place they decided to stop by the canteen outside to have some fresh air.

The two engaged onto conversations to make Sage forget about what she had just saw. And it was going okay. They had their eyes around everyone as well to make sure to no one was violating any school ground rules.

As they were talking, Sage received a notification from her phone, she looked over to see who it was from. A smile creeping onto Sage's lips, she immediately unlocked her phone screen and responded to the text. It was someone very dear to her. Reyna smirked, knowing who it was.

Reyna cleared her throat "Well well, a single text got you to shine brighter than the sun darling." the secretary chuckled and finished her drink, slowly crushing the can in her hand and throwing it away onto the nearest garbage bin.

Sage quickly blushed and cleared her throat "It's someone important to me, how could I not?"

"Are you going to see each other after class? I can go escort you out to make sure no one tries anything funny." Reyna offered, in which Sage nodded her head into after thinking for a while.

"Thank you Reyna."

"Aww, it's nothing to thank me for cariño. I'll always help you."

Practice ended early for Jett, as it actually passed by pretty quickly for her without her notice. Her mind was flowing onto the depths of nowhere, excited to see her partner. She removed her helmet and took off her chest protector, setting them aside as her hair finally felt the cold breeze of the wind. It felt soothing as it sent a few of her bangs slightly dancing with them. As a captain of the softball team. Her daily plan was to help her team improve their skill and learn how to play the game better.

She's not gonna lie, she does best when she knows one person in the audience watches her games. And it helps her improve the best she could on spot.

"Captain, thanks for the practice, I'll see you tomorrow!" Jett's teammate said as the girl took her leave. Jett only smiled slightly and waved her hand.

She fixed her hair bun and looked at her wristwatch. The school for today had just ended. She sighed in relief and went back to her usual poker face. Putting on her jacket showing her softball jersey, as a captain, she was the ace of their team. She was known for the title. But she's an average student. She grabbed her bag, took her phone, personal softball bat and exited the field to come meet her girlfriend. She went onto her bike, and exited the school.

They promised to meet on the exact place they usually do before, and she always gets there on time. This time, she decided to stop by a convenience store to buy two ice creams. The day must be stressful, so she knew they could use some of Sage's favorites.

Why would they meet up secretly? Because Jett knows to herself that her girlfriend's reputation would be ruined when the students saw her dating a mutt like her. She didn't wanna get her own self wrong. She loved Sage, alot. But she cared for her and her profile as a whole. She respects with kindness.

The same alley way she went on, everytime they meet, something was off since she heard the sound of people laughing. Two boys specifically, she quickly hurried to hide her bicycle and herself behind the walls of the alley to make sure she wasn't seen. She peeked, and saw two guys around Sage. Pinning her against the wall, threatening looks pierced through Sage's soul.

"I don't know why you would think of kissing the president, that asshole will never be better than we are."

"It's a rumor, it's not true... Please let me go before I sue you to the princi-" Sage was cut off when a hand grazed through her cheek.

"You know that's all you can do. And you will never do that."

"Hey! You two! Ever heard of privacy? You're stepping the boundaries here." Jett walked in the scenario, slowly approaching the men with a bat in hand. One that Sage bought for her.

"Woah woah captain, put that thing down and we'll talk, she's none of your business and-"

"She's none of your business as well." Jett deadpanned, she stopped walking, fixing her hold onto the bat as she tightened her grip "Get out of my way."

After Jett had successfully made the pair ran from the fight. She even when she had a few bruises on the side of her lips. Sage quickly took her in for an embrace and cried, despite Jett being slightly smaller, she let go of her bat and took her time to pat Sage's back and reassure her everything is alright.

"Hey, I'm here." Jett said, pulling from the hug to wipe Sage's tears with her handkerchief onto her pocket. She smiled.

"I'm sorry Jett... I couldn't get through them, they were threatening me and..."

"It's okay, I won't let this happen again, they will never touch you again. Or anyone else."

Sage held Jett's hand, Jett reached onto Sage's lips and gave her a kiss "I bought us ice creams, let's eat them before they melt." Jett said as she walked them over to her bike and gave Sage her ice cream.

They walked in silence as Jett was holding her bike, with a hand, the plastic of which held her ice cream hung onto the handle while her other hand was held by Sage who was eating her ice cream.

"I'm sorry for not coming sooner."

"It's okay Jett."

"Do you think we can hide this forever?" Jett asked, staring at the sun who slowly set it's way down, the clouds having an orange tint in the sky as it did.

"After what just happened? I don't think so..." Sage replied.

Jett stopped walking "I'm sorry I chose to have our relationship hidden, it's just that I don't want people to know you're with someone unworthy. I know popularity chooses no one when it comes to reputation and... I just want you safe and well."

Sage smiled and kissed Jett's cheek, her cold lips pressed against Jett's warm skin "First off, you're not unworthy, We're together for a reason. You only wanted what's best for me, I understand. I can keep tolerating everything else they throw at me because I know what's true and what's not, we know."

Jett smiled and kissed Sage's hand whilst she was holding it "I want to have a talk with Sova tomorrow. I don't wanna see those fuckers again."

"Thank you my little hawk, let's go to my place first to treat your bruises okay? Mom is excited to see you again and she will end me when she knew you got into a fight..."

Going home, Jett was quickly hugged by Sage's mother and had her head patted by her dad. Though their relationship was hidden in school, they weren't a secret inside both parents' household. And they were fully supportive for them. Sage's mom helped by getting a small tub of cold water and a towel, though they decided they'd do it in Sage's room so her mom could leave them alone.

Sage carefully pressed the cold towel onto Jett's bruise, Jett had her vision focused onto her girlfriend while her back was leaned onto the headboard of the bed. Looking at her girlfriend and recognized her gorgeous features. Her heartbeat was raising, and Sage secretly felt it, and it made her lips creep a small yet adorable smile.

"Is there anywhere else that's hurting?" Sage asked as she damped the towel back onto the cold water. Jett looked away and put a hand her stomach.

"N-nowhere... I'm good."

"What? Are you hiding something from me?" Sage asked as she had a smirk on her lips.

Jett only pouted "No..."

"Come on, lift your shirt up a little. Sage requested, Jett's cheeks flushing madly at the request. She knew she was terrible at hiding secrets, also the fact that Sage had probably seen all the parts where the guys had punched her. She kept her head looked away from Sage as she was still blushing in a crimson red tint. She put her onto the hem of her shirt and raised it enough for Sage to see the bruise. Yet it wasn't enough.

Sage volunteered and raised it up a little more to reveal a large dark purple bruise marked near Jett's lower hip. Sage could only gasp a little, she had to imagine the feeling of having to hide the pain just to protect her. She pressed the towel against it, earning an inward hiss from Jett as the pain stung her hard, her abs involuntarily flexed with the action as she even had her eyes closed from the pain.

"You had to go through all that, such a brave hawk." Are the words that escaped Sage's mouth, Jett finally, yet slowly looking at Sage.

"I did it for you." Jett replied, placing her hand onto Sage's cheek, the vice president leaning her head a little closer to the hand.

"I'm glad I fell inlove with you, I love you so much."

"I love you most Sage."
