Summary
Slowly, the anger trickles back in like the sands of time filling an hourglass. She can’t marry any man and Adora resolves that she won’t. She gets off the ground, walking toward her desk in the corner of her room. Adora quickly opens one of the wooden drawers, finding a dagger she keeps as a letter opener.
She goes to her vanity, hand trembling around the dagger as she looks at herself in the mirror. She grabs a handful of her hair, pulling it taut and before pressing the dagger against it. She imagines it would give her resistance, but it doesn’t—the hair floats to the ground, and with it, a weight is lifted off Adora’s shoulder.
She keeps cutting, shortening her hair until it’s shorter than Adam’s. She feels euphoric, staring herself in the mirror with a wide smile and tear streaks down her face. She’s sure to anyone else, she’d look unwell.
But she knows what she’s going to do. No one knows about the window that leads her to the castle grounds and without her hair, she’ll be difficult to spot.
For the first time in her life, Adora resolves to truly do what she wants.

"Oh there she is." He juts his chin out, but it’s not possible to distinguish her amongst the other women crowding near the refreshments.
Adam's stride quickens as he gets a clear direction and it makes it hard for Adora to keep up in her heels. She's about to whisper to him to slow down when she catches sight of the woman he's making a beeline toward.
Adora's heart beats too loudly in her chest and she feels like she might throw up right there in front of every upper class Bright Mooner.
It's her. It has to be her. She's older, changed in many ways but Adora would know Catra anywhere and any time. Her face is in a polite smile that doesn't reach her eyes, the kind she used to give to Adora's friends in Eternia whenever she ran into them.
But it's the same rounded cheeks Adora remembers. The same eyes—one melted gold and the other a vibrant blue—that Adora spent hours upon hours staring into. The same lips that Adora kissed more times than she could count, the ones she'd whispered broken promises into in the middle of the night.

Somewhat ironically, they were friends, now. Caitlyn could say that definitively.
They said hey in the hallways, made small talk and shared a few mutual eye rolls when the RA had to have a hall meeting about leaving microwaves and hot plates unattended because someone almost burnt down their room over the weekend.
They did laundry together sometimes when their schedules aligned - talking amicably about their schedules, about the upcoming performance of a student-written production that Vi had landed a part in and Caitlyn’s increasingly intense football matches. They shared little details about their lives, and Caitlyn collected things about Vi in her brain ravenously, storing them in safe places she'd never forget.
