Work Text:

Tagan sat on the ground before the fireplace, the flames warming the stone below him as he watched Revyn pace in front of him. Tagan could tell the dunmer was downright pissed, his shoulders hunched and fists clenched as he walked back and forth, occasionally starting to speak before shaking his head and resuming the pacing. Honestly, Tagan found it rather amusing and just smirked at the other mer.

"If yer gonna tell me off, ya might as well get it over with." Tagan said with a chuckle.

"You're an idiot." Revyn muttered, stopping in his tracks to face the bosmer, crossing his arms as he glared down at him. "An insufferable idiot who is going to get himself killed one of these days."

Tagan rolled his eyes, "Tell me somethin' I don't know, darlin'."

"Oh, no no no. Don't you darlin' me! Not now." Revyn stepped forward so he was looming over Tagan. "I could look past the occasional petty thievery, as much as I am loathe to it, but... Guild Master? Really Tagan?"

Tagan shrugged. "They needed a leader and no one else wanted the job. I'm not exactly the leading type, but what else was I supposed to do?"

"Leave! To Oblivion with all of them!" Revyn resumed his pacing. "Do you have any idea the bounty that will be on your head if word gets out about this?"

Tagan sighed. He knew telling Revyn was a bad idea, but the dunmer valued honesty, so Tagan made it a point to never lie to him. "If I leave the Guild now it'll be worse than any bounty the jarls may offer for me. 'Sides, with the power I now hold in the Guild, I can keep you safe."

"Safe? Safe? How on Nirn does this keep me safe? I could be arrested if they find you here!" Revyn plopped down on the edge of his bed with a groan, elbows resting on his knees and face buried in his palms.

Tagan stood, stepping over to the exasperated mer, placing his hands on Revyn's shoulders. Revyn flinched, but didn't push him away, which was at least something. "Revyn, I'm sorry I roped you into this. But I can't just drop everything, even if I wanted to leave." Tagan crouched in front of him. "Revyn... look at me darlin'."

A moment passed, but eventually Revyn glanced up at Tagan, the fire that was once burning in his eyes mostly gone, leaving the dunmer just looking very tired .

"There are so many things I would do for you. I would pluck the stars from the sky and arrange them in your likeness if it were in my power to do so." Tagan took a deep breath, meeting Revyn's eyes and hoping the sincerity he felt showed. "If you really want me to leave, I will. But I want you to understand that it isn't without consequences. I've... made some deals that are quite hard to go back on." Tagan swallowed as he pondered what he'd do if he had to leave the Guild. Leaving the Thieves Guild was no problem, really, but his oath as a Nightingale was harder to break.

Revyn searched Tagan's face, and Tagan didn't dare look away. When he seemed to find what he was looking for, Revyn slumped forward, head resting on Tagan's shoulder, the rest of the tension in his body easing away. "Why... why would you do all this for me?"

"Isn't it obvious?"

Revyn looked up, confused. "No, why?"

Tagan chuckled, pulling Revyn close. "S'cuz I love ya, darlin'."
