For Day 3 of Hug Ignis Week 2021

Notes:

A day late because this prompt fought me so hard for some reason.

Just a short ramble piece.

Prompt: Date Night | Loved Ones

Day 3 of Hug Ignis Week

Work Text:

They were supposed to go out to dinner. Supposed to. But for some reason, Ignis was nowhere to be found. Noctis, Gladio and Prompto had been searching for him for the last two hours. He hadn’t shown up to the restaurant; hadn’t answered his phone. He wasn’t at his office, or in their apartment. Eventually, they were worried enough that they used Citadel security to search for his phone’s location.

They found him on the roof of their building. He was lying there peacefully, staring up at the stars. The boys could hardly measure their relief. Noctis laid down on his left side and Prompto laid on his right, with Gladio beside him. Not one of them made a sound, but Gladio reached above the top of Prompto’s head to gently brush his fingers through Ignis’s hair.

After a while Ignis said quietly, “I apologize. I ruined our plans for dinner.”

It hung in the air for a moment before the others clamoured over each other to tell him that it’s okay, that they’re just glad to have found him safe. When the cacophony died down and edged silence fell over them, until Noctis rolled over and cuddled into Ignis’s side. “We really don’t mind about dinner, Specs, but we were really scared when we couldn’t get a hold of you.”

“I-” Ignis’s voice faltered. “I truly didn’t mean to worry you all, I just... “

Gladio gently continued to play with his hair and Prompto reached for his hand, holding it tightly and stroking the back with his thumb. “Did something happen, Iggy?”

Ignis sighed, “It was just… one of those days. It seemed as though nothing would go right.”

Gladio tapped his fingers on Ignis forehead. “You shoulda told us. We can’t help you if we don’t know what’s wrong.”

“It just all seemed so trivial. So many silly things. I just didn’t want to bother you with them because they really weren’t major, but all together… I just.. It was too much.”

Various grasps tightened on Ignis as each of his lovers tried to give him reassurance.

“Nothing is too trivial for us, Iggy,” Prompto says softly. “We want to help no matter what’s bothering you.”

“Yeah, you can always come to us. We want you to be happy.” Noctis pressed his lips to Ignis’s cheek.

“How about this?” Gladio offered, “We move the projector into the room with the big bed, and we can order takeout and snuggle.”

Ignis let out an emotional breath. “That sounds wonderful.”

Later that evening, buried underneath a cuddle pile of his loved ones, Ignis felt as though maybe the day hadn’t been so horrible after all.
