gal pals or lesbians?

Summary:

The Reader and Mitsuri have been dating for quite a bit without the other pillars knowing; not because they didn’t want them to know, (almost) everyone is just too oblivious to realize it. One chaotic gathering changes that.

Notes:

note: a very old request from when I used to write on wattpad from a user who has now deleted their account, but I was looking for inspiration and saw this and wanted to write it! some lesbian fluff with best girl mitsuri! also for this story, instead of a love interest, obanai is just a very close friend to mitsuri, so instead of jealous he’s just protective.

this is cross-posted from my tumblr, @mintugiyuu! If you want more x reader content, you can find it there more than you will here! I’m planning some stories involving character x character, (sanegiyuu + sabigiyuu mainly), so if you’re also interested in that, stick around! :D

Thank you for reading and take care! <3

Work Text:

You and Mitsuri have always been fairly friendly with each other. When you had first become a pillar yourself, the two of you clicked immediately. She was kind and outgoing, while you were softer spoken and patient. The combination of personalities seemed to so naturally attract each other that no one thought twice about it when you both got along so well.

A little too well, actually; but there wasn’t an issue and you both did your job just fine, so no one looked into it.

They brushed off the small touches as friendly affection between two women. People hold hands platonically all the time. They explained the looks between the two of you and the blushes that followed as inside jokes as you two willed yourselves not to laugh in a pillar meeting. Overall, no one really payed attention to it.

You two were just friends; great gal pals, right?

It was one of those rare nights where all 9 of the older pillars gathered for a get together - or in other words, eat something then drink to your heart’s content. There was a reason Muichirou was tucked away in his own bed.

It was Mitsuri’s turn to host this get together, her house practically sparkling with all the cleaning she did that day. Of course, you helped her out. The poor girl was also put in charge of cooking everything for the night, so you had no problem lending a hand.

No one was surprised to see you already in the Love Pillar’s Estate setting up the table.

“(L/N)-san!!” Kyojurou exclaimed, beaming as usual as he stepped into the estate. “What a surprise to see you here so early!”

“No it’s not.” A sharp tone cut in, walking past the Flame Pillar. Obanai wasn’t surprised at all; you were always early when it came to Mitsuri.

He had nothing against you, if anything he was grateful you were helping the green eyed girl since he didn’t have the time. But he wouldn’t be doing his job as Mitsuri’s friend if he didn’t give you a hard time.

You just waved to them, gesturing for them to come in as you placed down the last sake cup. “I’ve been here since last night. I figured she had a lot to do so I wanted to help a bit.”

“Ara, how kind of you~! I hope you both slept well.” Shinobu walked in with Himejima and Giyuu, having overheard your conversation. She knew of your status with Mitsuri, not being completely oblivious, and loved to tease any chance she got.

Color tinged your cheeks and you laughed it off, shaking your head. “We got plenty, please don’t worry yourself.”

“Oh trust me, I’m not worried.” She hummed, taking a seat next to the Flame Pillar.

You huffed light-heartedly at the teasing, amused yet flustered as you stood up. The rest of the pillars were filling in and greeting each other.

“Make yourselves comfortable, Mitsuri’s just finishing getting cleaned up. I’ll start bringing out the food in just a moment.” With that you took your leave into another room, leaving everyone to their own devices.

“Wow, a first name and without an honorific. Flamboyantly suspicious, I’d say!” Tengen also had his suspicions for a bit, but would never outright assume.

“Suspicious my ass, they’re just close. Even if it was, it’s none of your business.” Sanemi snapped back. No one quite knew why he’d get so annoyed when the topic was brought up.

Well, Tengen did. Which explains the shit-eating smirk on his face.

“UME! They seem very close! I don’t think we should go and put labels on thing!!” Kyojurou smiled, crossing his arms. He had no suspicions nor did he think anything of it. Like Sanemi said, it was none of his business. You both seemed happy doing your thing and that was good for him.

Gyomei rolled his prayer beads in his hands, crying a bit. “It’s not good to talk about people behind their back, especially about assumptions.” Kyojurou nodded.

“Right!”

“How boring.” Tengen huffed, leaning back slightly. Shinobu tittered quietly, shaking her head. Men were so oblivious sometimes.

The only silent ones were Giyuu and Obanai. Giyuu just had nothing to say about the topic, not thinking anything of your interactions and why it should be discussed. While Obanai just watched the door you went through, waiting for you to both appear.

He knew how affectionate Mitsuri could be, so that part didn’t concern him. But he also knew how reserved with affection you could be. With that fact considered, sometimes he just couldn’t help but raise a brow.

“Careful, hon.” You gently chided as you re-balanced the large plate on your girlfriend’s head, trying to balance your own.

“Wahh, we made so much food!!” She squealed back, doing her best to keep the plates on her head and both hands from falling as the both of you walked down the hallway to the dining room area.

You laughed a little, humming. “You made the food, I can’t cook to save my life. I’m glad you did regardless, your food is heavenly.” Mitsuri pouted at this while blushing at the praise.

“Without your help, I probably would’ve had to start days ago! Don’t undermine your effort, (Y/N). It makes me sad!”

You just sent her an adoring smile, wondering how you ended up with such a sweet lover.

The sound of chatter reached your ears as the both of you stepped inside the room. Various cheers for food could be heard as Mitsuri greeted everyone officially.

“I’m sorry for making a late appearance!! But I hope you’ll enjoy!”

“No worries, Kanroji-san. (L/N)-san was keeping us entertained.” Shinobu hummed out happily, waving her hand.

You sent her a look which only caused her to laugh behind her hand as your set down the large plates. “Mitsuri, Kocho-san gets her food last.”

Shinobu pouted playfully, if you can even call it a pout. She was still smiling. “Oh how mean~.”

Giyuu was just happy he wasn’t the target of her bullying for once.

After the food was all settled and everyone had their meal, the sake started to make its rounds around the table.

After the food was all settled and everyone had their meal, the sake started to make its rounds around the table.

“UMAI!! Mitsuri-San!! You never fail to make an amazing meal! Thank you!!” The Love Pillar blushed at the attention as some other voices joined to agree. She waved her hands, a flustered smile playing her lips as she grabbed your hand.

“Don’t just thank me!! (Y/N)-chan helped a lot too!! I wouldn’t be done if it wasn’t for-“ You cut her off with a small, gentle kiss to the side of her lips, giggling lightly as her face brightened into the shade of her hair.

“Please don’t listen to her, she did all the work while I just tidied up.” You squeezed her hand as you took another bite, none of you seeming to notice the several shocked stares.

When the silence persisted, you looked up, raising a brow.

“Is.. something the matter?”

You and Mitsuri both jumped as Tengen slammed his hand on the table, Giyuu grabbing his bowl and holding it up with a slight frown. He didn’t want it to knock over.

“I KNEW IT!! Like hell that was platonic!!”

“Ara~! That’s one way to reveal it.”

“UME! I’ve never kissed a friend like that!”

“Rengoku-san, that implies that you have kissed a friend?” Shinobu chided, enjoying the ensuing chaos. Rengoku laughed loudly.

“Of course! Haven’t you?”

Obanai ignored that pursuing conversation, looking at you with piercing yet curious eyes. “So you two are dating, yes?”

You and Mitsuri both just blinked at the reactions, not understanding why it was a surprise. “Yes, we have been for a bit.” You hesitantly responded while nodding.

Obanai just stares as he slowly nodded, his eyes squinting slightly. Gyomei rolled his prayer beads together again, his low voice rumbling out in a prayer for long lasting love and prosperity for the two of you.

Mitsuri was quiet with her response. “Is it really that much of a surprise?”

“YES.” Several voices rang out, causing you to snort.

“We weren’t trying to hide it, I don’t know what you took it all as.”

Tengen seemed all too pleased with himself, laughing loudly as he placed an open palm in front of Sanemi. “Pay up!!”

“GOD FUCKING-“ Sanemi seethed to himself as he angrily rummaged in his pockets and threw some yen at Tengen’s face, glaring at you two. “Why the fuck did you two have to be together??”

You couldn’t help but laugh, knowing he didn’t mean any ill intent towards the two of you. “Sorry?”

You heard Giyuu mumble a “congratulations” before continuing to eat his food once more. Shinobu wasn’t surprised at all and was still trying to pry details out of Rengoku and his endeavors.

All while Obanai was still staring (glaring?) at you. You sweat dropped. “Is it that bad that we’re dating-?”

Obanai stayed quiet before speaking in a stern manner. “If she comes to me crying because of your doing, you’ll get to know my training grounds and the people tied in it very well.”

It was a threat, you knew it was, but it came out of a place of care, so you just smiled and nodded.

Mitsuri was now bashfully answering many personal questions being asked by Tengen, the chaos ensuing as you sighed and squeezed her hand.

Maybe you two should’ve kept it hidden.
