More than a year later, she still didn’t know if seeing Himiko’s body one last time had been the right choice. On one hand, it should have helped the grieving process; seeing her, knowing she was gone. It meant there was no chance she was still somewhere out there. That final glimpse should have allowed her to move on without dwelling on what-ifs, at least that’s what she told herself.
Some nights, she still tried to convince herself the body wasn’t really Himiko’s, that it was fake, a clone created during the sad man’s death parade that somehow hadn’t turned to ashes. She still told herself that Himiko would be back one day.

A better outcome -- an alternate universe in which Homura isn't too messed up and almost everyone is alive. They may not be able to change the world, but they can change themselves and figure out life as best they can, hoping they won't die tomorrow.
[Very slow-moving plot, heavy introspection. Alternating 3rd person close POVs.] [Quality gets better further in but we lose some plot. C'est la vie.]

“Why are you apologizing? I’m the one who hurt you.”
Bemused, Peruere replies, “Because I’m the one who just made you cry…?”
“I’m crying because I don’t like that I’ve hurt you.”
