It didn’t seem real.
The hand in hers, the Ketterdamn sun shining bright, the two lost figures far off in the harbor. Even as Inej bounded towards her mother and father, the people she knew so long ago, she could hardly believe that she was even there.
As slippery as ever, she wove between the crowds, hopping over crates of goods and ducking beneath tables. Her feet were so light she may as well have been flying.
When she was within view of her parents, when she could finally make out the details of their faces, their hair, their authentic Suli clothes that she hadn’t seen in so long, she let out a cry that sounded more like it would come from a little girl than the Wraith. Her parents finally caught sight of her, a wisp of a girl, a woman, amongst the clamoring masses.
