Work Text:

Under the muted stars of an inky black sky, Chat Noir bit his lip, just unable to verbalize his tiny, wimpy wish as he saw Ladybug's blue eyes widen. His emotions seemed to show on his face, or Ladybug knew his mannerisms just well enough to realize that —

"What's bothering you, kitty?" Ladybug asked tentatively. He blinked, still unable to keep his expression bland, and hoped against all hope that he looked cool though.

"Your concern warms my heart, my lady," he spoke in a quivering voice and turned his head away, his golden tresses falling right into the middle of his face. "But I’m fine."

"I don’t know Chat, you just seem really distracted today. It worries me." A twinge of warmth laced her words as she, very gently, reached out a hand to brush a lock of golden hair away from his face, fingertips touching his cheek and tracing a pattern on its flushed softness.

A shiver spiraled down his spine before grabbing her small hand and bringing it to his mouth. Smiling to himself, he pressed a soft kiss to her knuckles, fully aware that at least someone cared for him. That someone knew him well enough to see the difference. Her presence really made him feel at home – it was a wonderful experience, giving him joy and happiness, making his insides squirm with excitement.

He never wanted to lose this feeling –

Ladybug, his lady, his bugaboo, his everything, to be precise.

He wasn’t smiling though as he thought about the source of his distress again, his eyes retracting their path to her bluebell eyes, "Yes, you are right. I’m feeling kind of down today. A dear friend of mine decided to part ways with me, because I wasn’t able to be completely honest with her due to my secret identity."

"Oh kitty, I’m so sorry."

"Yeah, and so I was just thinking ... can we, and only if you feel comfortable with that, promise each other that one day in this life, we will call each other our civilian names, being completely honest while doing so."

"Of course, I do. Let’s do that, kitty. I’m already looking forward to that day," Ladybug said, squeezing his hand. "You won’t lose me, I promise."

Fighting to keep from crying, Chat smiled a tender smile, squeezing her hand back.

"I’m glad to hear that."
