Work Text:
Yuji cleaned off the same counter top twice, folded Megumi’s clothes, and started about two shows. He tried listening to music or working on the puzzle they started a week ago. He called Nobara then Yuta to see what they were doing (Nobara was house hunting with Maki and Yuta didn’t pick up). His therapist said to try and keep busy, but he couldn’t seem to stop thinking about everything that could go wrong. Ever since they got married his anxiety spiked when Megumi went to work.
He didn’t know why he always go anxious when Megumi went on missions. He was strong, a first grade sorcerer, and thankfully got over his self-sacrificial tendencies. He had faced powerful foes back in high school, namely aiding in exorcising Sukuna. Yuji knew Megumi would be okay but he was still anxious.
Maybe it’s because he wasn’t there with him, or because Megumi said it was a solo mission, or he had looked a bit tossed around in his last fight against a curse. Yuji could never shake the feeling something would go wrong despite his husband coming home in one piece every time.
The sound of the front door opening instantly took him away from his thoughts. He looked up
from spot on the couch to see Megumi shuffling in. He was a little bloody, but nothing serious from the looks of it. He took off his shoes and promptly collapsed in Yuji’s lap with a sigh.
“Long night huh?” Yuji stroked from the base of Megumi’s neck into his short thick hair. He managed to convince Megumi that cutting his hair short and getting an undercut might help him control his awful bed head he had in high school.
“Mm.” Megumi was never one to talk about his fights (even if Yuji said they were epic).
They eventually got up and started getting ready for bed. As Yuji waited for Megumi to finish showering, he looked at the month old tattoo on his ring finger. They both lost their rings during exorcisms and, rather than continually replacing them, they decided to have a more permanent option. Megumi had the date he confessed on his finger, and Yuji had the date he proposed to him. Both tattoos were in Roman numerals. Neither could choose which date was more important, and decided to have the date they thought was more important. The couple already scheduled to have their wedding date tattooed on their inner wrist.
Megumi interrupted his thinking once again by falling onto the bed, laying down and making grabby hands towards Yuji. Yuji laughed and took out his bun, making sure to turn off the lamp as well. They got into their usual position, with Yuji laying down and Megumi basically using him as a pillow. Megumi liked listening to his breathing and heartbeat, and Yuji liked the pressure of Megumi on top of him.
“I missed you today,” he said, squeezing Megumi.
“Your anxiety spiked again?” Megumi asked.
“Yeah, it did.”
“I’m sorry.”
“It’s not your fault. I’m just worried that one day I’ll get that call or that knock…” Yuji trailed off. Megumi shifted and wrapped Yuji in his arms.
“I love you more than I have loved anything else. I can’t guarantee I’ll always come home okay, but I can guarantee I will fight my hardest to be here with you,” Megumi said. He stroked through Yuji’s long hair and held him close.
“I love you too,” Yuji mumbled into his neck. He knew Megumi couldn’t say he would come home everyday.
“If I die, you have to tattoo my face on you,” Megumi said.
“I’m gonna use that picture I have of you sneezing.”
“You would do that to your dead husband’s legacy?”
“Oh please, you’d use that picture of me blackout drunk on Nobara’s couch for a memorial photo.”
They dissolved into laughter, finally breaking from the tension of the first conversation. Yuji could never completely break away from his anxiety or his trauma, but he could have Megumi and Megumi could have him, till death do them part.
