There are nights when she can’t sleep, where she lies back pressed to his chest, his arm slung over her, and looks around the motel room. Even in the dim light, that streams through the worn curtains, she can see that it’s musty and dirty, they always are - she’s lucky if the water runs warm and there are not any unpleasant stains on the bedsheets. This is her life now, running by day, lying low by night, wanting and dreading each action they commit, knowing every one brings them closer to their inevitable bloody demise.
