Work Text:

It had been 3 weeks. 21 days. 504 hours.

It had been 3 weeks since Jungkook had felt the tight clutch of his depression, crushing his chest under its invisible pressure. 3 weeks since he’d felt useless, unable to even pull himself from his bed.

It had been 3 weeks since he’d asked out Seokjin and had been so caught up in the high of his newly kindled relationship that he his depression hadn’t been able to crush his spirits.

But on the third week, the 21st day, the 504th hour, it finally did. It broke through so suddenly that his entire chest aches and his body was tired.

Jungkook hadn’t moved an inch from his bed since he’d woken up, hours passing by as he drifted in and out of sleep, exhausted from nothing but his thoughts and emotions.

He wanted to stay there, unmoving, waiting for the wave to pass, but there was one issue. It was the night of his and Seokjin’s third date. They’d made plans to go out for dinner and despite the 4 alarms Jungkook had set as reminders, he still hadn’t moved. If he got out of bed, he’d be lucky if he could even get cleaned up in time.

With a small, frustrated whine, Jungkook picked up his phone from the pillow, staring at the top conversation in his messages for a moment before he began to type

Oh, don’t apologize, Kookie! We can get dinner another night, okay? Please rest well!

[Received : 4:39pm]

He still felt horrible for cancelling and with a quiet sigh, he dropped his phone to the bed. His stomach clenched the longer he laid in bed, but he couldn’t find it in himself to get up and get some food. All he could do was bury his face in his pillows and hope he could fall asleep again.

Not long had passed, but Jungkook was already drifting off again, and with his blankets pulled over his head, he almost didn’t hear the quiet knock at his door. Almost.

Lowering the blanket, he stared at the door, though he made no move to answer it until there was a second knock. Whoever was there didn’t seem like they were going to leave. So dragging himself from his bed, he walked to the door, his limbs sore from lack of movement all day.

When he opened the door, the person he hadn’t been expecting to see was Seokjin and within seconds, embarrassment washed over him. His hair was a mess, it had been a couple days since he’d showered, his skin was oily and close to a breakout and he was only wearing his paint stained t-shirt and sweatpants. He probably looked just as horrible as he felt and that was exactly what he didn’t want Seokjin to see.

And yet, Seokjin looked at him with nothing but kindness, a pretty smile spread over his lips.

“Hyung, what are you doing here?” Internally, he winced at how hoarse his voice was from misuse, his throat painfully dry.

“Well, I figured if you’re not feeling well, why not bring date night to you?” Seokjin held up a bag and instantly, Jungkook's stomach grumbled from the smell of food. He couldn’t even tell what it was, but he was pretty sure he could eat anything. “I figured we could eat a bit and watch some movies if you’re feeling okay enough for that.”

He felt the slightest bit guilty that Seokjin had gone out of his way just for him, but he still nodded, stepping away from the door.

“I’m just gonna go clean up a bit, okay?” He murmured, closing the door behind Seokjin, chewing nervously on his lip as the older man walked over to Jungkook’s bed, sitting down. His room was a bit of a mess, clothes scattered across the floor, his art supplies piled next to his bed, his blankets a complete disaster. Seokjin must think he was a total pig.

And still, he just gave a small nod, smiling at Jungkook before he started pulling the food out of the bag, setting them out on the messy sheets.

It was a bit tiring, but Jungkook got his teeth brushed, put on some deodorant and brushed his hair before he stepped into the room again.

“I should change as well,” he murmured it more to himself, but Seokjin waved his hand, walking over to Jungkook. His slim hands slid down Jungkook’s arms before taking his hands, his touch warm as he pulled the younger over to the bed.

“Nonsense. You aren’t feeling well. Don’t worry about getting all dressed up for me.” Despite his words, Jungkook couldn’t help but feel a bit gross as he sat down in his stained clothes next to Seokjin, who never looked less than perfect. “I ordered soup for you in case your stomach wasn’t feeling well, but I also got extra beef and rice in case you wanted that.”

Seokjin put in so much work while Jungkook hadn’t even been able to get out of bed. He felt sick just thinking about it.

Giving a small thank you, he took the soup, his stomach grumbling the second the sweet smell hit his nose. It had been almost a full day since he’d last eaten and only then was it beginning to hit him out hungry he really was.

As he began to eat, Seokjin pulled out his laptop and began scrolling through Netflix , humming softly to himself before he clicked on Wolf Children. It was a movie Jungkook had seen before, but it had been years and he couldn’t remember much of it.

They ate quietly, the movie the only sound filling the room and eventually, the food was completely gone, only empty containers left. Seokjin was quick to tuck them into the bag, setting it on the floor before he shifted closer to Jungkook, their shoulders pressed together.

“Why don’t you lay down?” Seokin suggested, moving an arm to trace down Jungkook’s back, sending a shiver down his spine. And though he’d done nothing but sleep all day, Jungkook didn’t object.

The only issue was that with their current position, the only place his head could go was Seokjin’s lap and panic rose in his chest. Would that be moving too fast? Should he say something? He didn’t want to ask Seokjin to move when he looked comfortable.

Gently, Seokjin’s hand guided Jungkook to lay down, his touch light on Jungkook’s arm and sure enough, his head lowered to rest against Seokjin’s thigh. Not a word was spoken between them as they continued to watch the movie, Jungkook’s tense shoulders slowly relaxing the more comfortable he got with their current position. At some point, Seokjin’s hand lifted to card through Jungkook’s hair and though he was sure it must have felt gross from the dry shampoo he’d used not too long ago, nothing was said.

With the gentle touch against his hair and the low volume of the movie, it wasn’t surprising when Jungkook’s eyelids began to feel heavy and he let out a loud yawn, unconsciously turning his head to press his face to Seokjin’s thigh. Quietly, Seokjin laughed, shifting a bit to move away from Jungkook and as he blinked his eyes open, Jungkook worried a bit, but watched as Seokjin shifted to lay down as well, his hand settling on Jungkook’s waist.

“Is this okay?” Seokjin asked softly and with a hammering heart and butterflies in his stomach, Jungkook nodded, moving up a bit on the bed so his head was on the pillow instead, matching Seokjin’s position. He felt nervous being in such an intimate position together. It was the first time Seokjin had ever been to his dorm and he hadn’t expected to end up cuddled together in his bed. But he didn’t have any complaints, not when his heavy heart felt a bit lighter with Seokjin around.

Before he even realized it, his eyes were slipping shut again and soon, he was drifting off again.

By the time Jungkook opened his eyes, the movie had ended, the laptop screen completely black. Against his waist was the same hand that had been there when he’d fallen asleep, but the breathing behind him was much slower than before. With a small glance over his shoulder, Jungkook could see Seokjin’s face buried in his pillow, his shoulders rising with every deep breath he took.

Outside of the window, the sun had set, but he really had no idea what time it was, but in the end, it didn’t matter. Because with Seokjin next to him, wrapped up in his sheets, his warm body pressed close to Jungkook’s, nothing else could matter.

At that moment, it was just Seokjin, Jungkook and his messy sheets.
