Work Text:

It’s about 9:04 when you finally get out of bed. Your alarm clock has been blaring an annoying ringtone you never changed for the past 15 minutes, and it’s about time you finally listened to it. You reach for your phone and miss on the first try but grab it on the second, shutting off the alarm and switching to your side to check for notifications. Nothing, but some email about how schedules need to be submitted for the spring semester. You had already met with your counselor and figured out yours, so you set your phone back down and begrudgingly sat up.

With heavy eyelids, you managed to get out of bed, walking from your room and into the kitchen. There, you began to run through the motions of making your coffee for the morning, eyes barely paying attention and relying mostly on muscle memory. You shut the coffee pot lid and pressed the button, hearing the machine breathe to live. You grabbed a cup and scooped ice into it from your hand, then retrieved your creamer from the fridge. You sat them both down next to the coffee maker, glancing up to see how bright it was. You wondered if it had gotten any colder, or if warmth was going to persist.

You headed towards the window, going to open the blinds when a ringing of your phone in the next room cut you off. You went to fetch it, grabbing it off the bedside table to see who it was—your mom.

You answered it, “Hello?”

“Hi sweetie!” she chirped from the other end. You laughed a little bit.

“What’s got you so happy this morning?”

“Oh,” she hummed. “I just wanted to call you and hear your voice. What are you doing today?”

You brought your phone into the kitchen with you, seeing the coffee pot was already almost done brewing. “I figured I’d have a day in to relax from work,” you responded, leaning against the counter as you waited. “You know, maybe play some video games, might buy some unnecessary things online, who knows. What about you?”

You could hear her smile through the phone. “Just heading to the park to go on a walk,” she told you. “Have you gone outside yet today?”

“I just woke up, mom, I’m still making my coffee,” you sighed, and in the middle of your sentence, the coffee maker beeped to signal you it was done.

You turned around to pour the drink together, and your mom went on, “Well, hurry up and open a window. You’ll be surprised.”

“Okay, alright,” you went, stirring your cup with a straw before picking it up and heading to the window. The phone crammed itself between your ear and shoulder as your newly freed hand brought open the curtain in front of you, the loud sunshine hitting your eyes quickly. You unlocked the window carefully and slid it open, feeling a gust of chilled air hit your skin. “Wait a second,” you stopped cold, goose pumps rising on your skin from the breeze from outside. You could feel your nose turning red. “Mom. What day is it.”

She sighed on the other line. “Sweetie, you’re so oblivious.” You checked your phone for the date. It was September 22.

The first day of autumn.

As the realization hit you, you felt the floor heat up, and let out a breath as arms wrapped around your body. Four arms enveloped you, black nails bruising into your skin. You gasped and dropped both your phone and your coffee, then heard the low rumble of a voice, “There you are, kitten.”

“Sukuna,” you stated aloud. He dipped his head down to look at you, all four eyes glinting in the autumn light. He smiled with his lips pulled up to one side.

“It’s my turn with you,” he mulled, his fingers tightening their hold and then the floor opened up underneath you.

You shut your eyes for a moment, and kept them closed even when you felt your feet touch a gravelly ground.

Warmth enveloped your body, as if you had returned to summer, except the smell surrounding you was one of charcoal and asphalt. Sukuna then moved one of his hands away from your body in order to hold your jaw and tilt it up towards him, an encouragement to meet his eyes. You let your own open, and they flickered between the four of his. He was still smiling that cruel smile. “The color red looks beautiful behind you.”

You stared at him for a moment, mouth forced closed by his fingers on your jaw. He loosened up his hold so you could speak, “You don’t have to be so daunting with me.”

He chuckled, nodded his head a bit and then you felt the grip on your body fall off of you. You watched his face as his second pair of eyes melted back in his face and left marks under his lashes, but the black lining over his body remained the same. One hand still wrapped around your waist while the other one moved from your jaw to your cheek, the touch more gentle than the ones he had laid on you previously. His red eyes looked more pink when they stared at you like that, lips left in a small smirk that you didn’t want to admit made you fuzzy inside. As you looked back up into his eyes, they were more mischievous than before, him moving your face towards him until there was only a centimeter left between the two of you. “It’s been 181 days without you,” he mumbled. “I’ve grown impatient.”

With that, his lips connected with yours, and you could feel the sheer craving he held as he pulled you impossibly closer by the waist. As he overpowered you, you had no choice but to succumb to both him and your darkest needs, raising your arms to wrap behind his neck. As the kiss continued, you felt your hands tangling in his pink hair, wishing you could pull him so close your bodies would melt into each other.

His lips broke from yours for a second, and as you let out a few shaky breaths, he mumbled smugly, “Oh, you missed me too, Y/N. No need to pretend otherwise.” You huffed a bit and he just chuckled, tilting your head so he could look into your eyes. “Let me lay you down on something more comfortable.”

You were inaudible for a second, but forced yourself to hum in agreement. With one movement, he picked you up, legs draped over one arm and the other holding you to his chest. Your eyes met once more, and he kissed you again, softer this time than last.

“Welcome back, my queen.”
